    Default Late 80's Horror Magazine/Comic?

This is an EXTREME longshot, but I see people posting threads, asking questions about long forgotten comics of their youth on here all the time. So what the heck.

Sometime in the late 80's early 90's (1987ish to 1991ish) I used to buy a horror comic that I believe was in magazine format at the local drugstore. But I have absolutely no idea what the hell it was called.

The only story I can clearly remember reading was a story about a female vampire band. They got on stage to do their performance and locked all the doors in the concert hall. And then the three of them (I'm pretty sure it was 3) fed on the entire audience. Gave me nightmares for weeks. Only other story I barely remember involved evil mermaids of some sort. Like I said I barely recall it.

But I remember liking this comic/magazine and was curious if anybody can think of anything it might be so I could maybe browse ebay or the local comic conventions for some issues. Maybe even try and find the chick vampire band issue.

    Thanks guys.

EDIT: I do believe the series was in B&W and the stories weren't really connected (but I could be wriong on both counts). And it was not the Vertigo series Vamps.

I can't think of many Horror mages from that era.

I think that Eclipse may have had some b&w horror magazines around that time.

Maybe. I took a look at some issue covers online and they definately seem familiar. But were the stories with all spoofs and such, or were there genuine horor stories within?

Is there any chance you're thinking of Heavy Metal? Also, didn't Dracula get a Marvel magazine?

Nah. I was somewhere between the ages of 7-11. There was no way in hell I was getting Heavy Metal. My parents did let me get Mad Magazine for years.

Marvel did a Dracula magazine, but I'm almost positive it wasn't that. I've read numerous issues of that in recent years.

That definately sounds promising! Covers seem familiar. Fits in the right time frame and one of the stories from issue 1 is called "Sex Vampires From Outer Space" and a stroy from issue 2 is called "Aquacarnivora" which could potentially fit my evil mermaid memories. Looks like a very promising lead. I'll look around and see if I can't find some reasonable priced copies.

Thanks a lot you guys! This has been running through my head for years.

I believe one of Marvel's last black and white horror/sci-fi mags was Savage Tales in the mid-80s.

    Default Monsters Attack

Ryan, the book you're looking for is Monsters Attack with cover art by John Severin. It's completely indexed on my B&W Checklist site (www.enjolrasworld.com then look for Richard's Pages). Check out the site. I think you'll like it. Every magazine completely credited, commentaries on each issue and many creator interviews to boot.

    Cool.

I've never heard of that title.

Looks like there is another Infinity Cover to add to my want list.

I did some ebay browsing the other week. Someone had issues 2-5 for $8, I hesitated and someone else picked it up. The issues don't seem too overpriced. But there's a guy at the local comic convention who has tons of this kind of stuff reaaly cheap and there's a show coming up in April. So I'm gonna try my luck there first. If I can, I prefer a real tactile buying experience over ebay.

Thanks agaon for all the help guys (especially dan).

    And nice site rarndt.

This brings back a good memory. I used to love Monster's Attack, although I only saw the first few issues. It had some cool stories for the pre-teen horror hound that I was, even at least one Ditko story. I knew it wasn't quite as nasty as the Warren magazines my dad had, but since those kind of freaked me out at the time I didn't mind.

I very vividly remember a story about a crazy Canadian lumberjack, Enroja's World says it was called "Weirdbeard," a story about a weird demon that steals a belt buckle and an article about "Jason's Bodycount." It wasn't all comics, there were some film articles. Too bad there were so few issues. I think I only saw four and didn't buy one because I didn't like Godzilla at the time and he was on the cover. I don't even think I saw the fith and final Frankenstein issue.
