    Default Reprinting Absolute Editions?

    Hey all,

Does anyone know if DC/Wildstorm ever reprints the Absolute Editions? I'm gagging for a copy of Absolute Planetary now that the last three or four issues are coming ...

Well, I really don't see 'em ever reprinting these ABSOLUTE EDITIONS unless there is a gigantic demand for 'em all of a sudden. I think due to the price tag on these babies, they're more of a "here one minute, gone the next" kinda scenarios. Their time has come and gone and you either got one or ya didn't (though based on the retail price, I'll wager tons of fans DIDN'T) I'm sorta interested in buyin' 'em if I can get 'em cheap, but the size is what's tuning me off of these. I understand the probable selling point, GRAND SCALE BOOKS of GRAND SCALE stories and what-not but they just seem too big for me.

But if ya really want one, Bruce, ya might check out Ebay for a decent price on a used one or maybe even a new one...

I've been dying for Absolute Authority, so I contacted Wildstorm on twitter and asked them if it would be back in print sometime in the future.
They said, "If there's enough demand, anything is possible!"
That's why I'm roaming the web and spreading the word. I suggest you do the same too (for Absolute Planetary) and make sure Wildstorm hears it.

A new printing of Absolute New Frontier is supposed to ship this week, so it does happen.

There have been multiple reprints of Absolute Watchmen (I think it's on it's 3rd or 4th printing), along with a second printing the first volume of Absolute Sandman (I'm pretty sure those will stay in print). I want to say Hush got a 2nd printing too, but I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure we'll get another Planetary Absolute (maybe a complete collection) once the final issue comes out, which is pretty soon.
    Absolute Authority, I sorta doubt.

I want to say Hush never even got a first printing, but sadly I know it's not true

Hush is proof that Absolute editions are done only for art.

Well yeah. How would that format make the story any better? I like New Frontier but the only reason I got the absolute edition so I can see Darwyn Cooke's art on big colorful pages.

I'll take The Long Halloween and Dark Victory as that proof. Jim Lee's art does nothing for me.

It wouldn't make it better but them receiving the red carpet treatment would further recognize their greatness. I at first thought Absolute editions were the equivalent of Criterion editions for movies. But Absolutes are focused on art. Thankfully most Absolutes have had good writing too and some are truly classics like The Long Halloween.

Nothing from Jeph Loeb can ever be be anything even remotely considered a classic. Ever.

I do understand he's generally disliked and most of the time for good reason but his collaborations with Tim Sale have been good. And in case you didn't know The Long Halloween heavily influenced Nolan's The Dark Knight.

I think other formats do that. Like the Omnibus and Deluxe books.

But I think Absolute was designed mainly so people can appreciate the artwork which is why most of them on focused on series with one main artist with some exceptions like Sandman. Like I think All Star Superman would warrant an Absolute while something like Seven Soldiers would probably work better as an Omnibus.

I also want to say that Absolute New Frontier is back in print.

Sure, new copies are around $300 on amazon still, but my LCBS got in a couple new copies just this last Wednesday and they were selling it for 10% off cover price - but they were sealed, so I couldn't tell what printing it was.

Yeah, here it is, back in print as of 7/08.
