She-Hulk is such a boring and 3rd character, why do you keep using her? Might as well keep rebooting Stilt Man into 3 or 4 ongoings.
Thunderbolts may be the best you've got going, then Nova. Fraction is getting better.
Mainstream comics seem to be running out of stories. Why not Alpha Flight the ongoing, then, given the Thunderbolts success?

When is Marvel going to get into the reality game?
There have been reality shows about becoming a dancer, singer, model, fashion designer, cook, Trump's ....apprentice..... So when are we going to get one for comic creators? Get some writers and artist in a contest to create their own original work or some out of continuity mini for one of many Marvel Characters. The winner gets their stuff published or re-edited for release or put out through DCU. How about this?
-
Hey Joe- Is Dean White the most under-appreciated artist at Marvel? This guy should have a much higher profile.
-
Dear Joe,
Upper Deck recently announced an agreement to continue creating trading cards, trading card games, and miniature games with Marvel characters. As a veteran of the Upper Deck's Vs. System trading card game, I was wondering if you could tell us what kind of input Marvel has on the upcoming games and what you remember about Vs. System.
Once Squirrel Girl used a Vs. System card to help her defeat MODOK, might we see a future wink like that?
What do you think about trading cards and games in general in relation to characters and continuity?
Have you ever played one of the Marvel card games yourself?

You stated in the last installment of Cup o' Joe that the foilogram covers would not result in a price increase. I buy comics through an online subscription service, however, and have been informed that the Spidey variant will cost me around $16. It would be $25 if not for their subscription/new release discount. I'm going to buy the variant anyway, but I have to ask--what's up with the price increase? Is it that way simply because I'm not buying it in a shop? What gives?

First off Joe, I just want to thank you for taking the time to do all of this for us fans! I know the internet generally gives the impression that everything and everyone is all negative all the time, but I am truly thankful for the extras you give us!!
As for a question, different companies have the rights to different movies, which makes certain characters off-limits in certain movies. I don't even know if you can answer this but wouldn't it be neat if, for the Avengers movie, you asked Tobey Maguire if he'd be able to be a close-up in a crowd scene, maybe with a camera in hand? Not explicitly saying it's Peter Parker, but giving a small nod to the fans that this universe is even BIGGER than it's allowed to be (until Marvel Studios gets more of these characters back, of course!). Just wondering if that's even remotely possible.
Thanks!

Mr. Quesada I'd like to know if there will be any more explanation on what happened between the OMD and BND storylines. I know that you already responded to lots of questions regarding this subject , but I'd still like to know what happened exactly, not just little hints.

Hi Joe.
I got into comics after playing marvel: ultimate alliance (not long after civil war) and I wanted to say there are a lot of great current comics coming from marvel. Some of these questions are not really your department (I suppose they are on marketing strategy) and may appear a little negative, but I don't intend them to be.
1. There are so many comics that are coming out that are geared towards similar audiences. I know I can't afford everything I would like to try out. Do you think marvel titles have too much competition with eachother, rather than with titles from other publishers?
2. When I was trying to get into marvel it was hard to find an authoritative source to suggest accessable titles/understand the different imprints. Could marvel not do more to make their universe easier to penetrate? The website for example could have some sort of guide for a new reader (the explanations of the imprints that are on there are out of date). The website is quite cluttered and could do with some big icons to make it easier to navigate for potential new readers interested by the movies/cartoons.
3. Could marvel not do more to advertise to the non-comic reading public? Many charcters are so well known it is about converting them to comics rather than letting them know about the characters. Perhaps some sort of advert before a marvel movie directing them to Digital Comics Unlimited to read about the character or a leaflet in the DVD. (Make sure that there is a good, modern, free selection of that character eg iron man extremis and five nightmares for free for a few weeks surrounding iron man 2).
4. How are creative teams decided? Do you choose to put the writer on a title and find an artist that fits, or do you put a particular writer with a particular artist and then find them a project to work on? How much say does the writer get in the artist they are working with?
5. If the Marvels Project is a success, would marvel consider a mini-series or group of mini-series to chronicle the marvel universe from fantatsic four 1 to avengers dissassembled? I know lots of the comics are quite easy to find but it would be good for newer fans to have a modern telling of the birth of the marvel universe as we know it.
6. Would the collections department ever release something similar to the compendiums image/top cow are putiing out? It would be a great (cheaper) way to catch up on series that people miss, rather than having to buy several trades (some of which may be out of print).
7. In a similar vein why does marvel not re-release trades that go out of print very regularly? I am looking for iron man: execute program because the movie got me interested in iron man so i got extremis and want to continue the story from there. There must be several people who are doing the same.

Kick-Ass!
Hiya Joe, Marvel dot com lists Kick-Ass issues #7 & 8 coming out in August (12th and 26th). Izzat for reals? Like really real? No foolin'? I'm just excited to read the comics before the movie comes out.
Also, this is probably way, wayyy too early, but will there be more issues (or a "Season 2")? I remember Mark Millar said he came up with some more stories for Kick Ass, is there any movement on that?
Oh, and speaking of sequels, is there any rumblin' aboot any more Nextwave? Even a hint? A wiff? A tease?
(as you can tell, I'm a bit of a fan of the big, epic, funny ultraviolence you guys do. Anything wacky and destructive, count me in.)

Dear Joe,
I just read the final issue of Captain Britain and Mi13. And damn it was a good issue. I'm not going to berate you guys for cancelling it. I understand how the market is right now. Times are tough. Instead I'd just like to thank you guys for letting Paul Cornell and Leonard Kirk round it all off properly. It was a great fun series to read for the 15 months that we had it, and really complimented the diversity of Marvel's shared universe.
As a query though, in that final issue we saw a number of 1990s Marvel UK characters brought back into continuity for the first time in 15 years. Dark Angel, Digitek and Death's Head. Motormouth and Killpower also turned up in recent issues. Is there any chance we might get to see those characters playing elsewhere in the Marvel Universe in the future? Or indeed a chance that we might get some more MI13 stories at some point?
-
Hi Mr. Q.,
I understand the sales of many cancelled series doesn't warrant an ongoing, but is there any way it's profitable by Marvel's standards to return these series once a year as OGN's or Limited Series?
Not that it will necessarily boost the numbers per issue, but at least those that enjoyed it will get to have the story continued, and b/c it's a limited period of time the negative impact of poor sales won't be as strong . . . maybe.
Thanks.

Mr. Quesada,
Thanks for answering my question regarding the Marvel anime.... Now answer the rest of my questions! :evilangry:
I wrote that before many of the SDCC announcements, so I am happy to hear there is a panel discussing the Marvel anime on the schedule.
Since I am writing this as SDCC is going on, I was hoping you can tell us which of the announcements Marvel put out was the most exciting/fun/satisfying for you. Also, can you tell us what you thought the coolest announcement was (non-Marvel) at SDCC?
I also vote for Christos Gage being offerred an exclusive (I know I have no vote).
I hope that someday you folks can publish Rom again. He was quite integrated with the MU for a while.
Finally, with the publication of the Thor & Hercules: Encyclopaedia Mythologica, are there any plans to include more mythological stories to upcoming stories? I'd imagine Fraction, Pak, or Van Lente could do some bang up work on that!
Thanks again!

1. Will marvel start making commercials on tv like in the 80s? You can have ads for marvel adventures and x-men first class on cartoon network.
2. Will marvel ever make a marvel two-in-one or marvel team up cartoon like batman brave in the bold? It would be a great way of getting kids to know lesser heroes like darkhawk, cload 9, or power pack.
3. Any chance for a deadpool vs death's head one-shot? What a wild battle that would be.
Any chance for a new prowler mini-series?

Why is the internet still working?
-
Why is Jeph Loeb to waste all the hard work Peter David, Dan Slot, and the artits that worked for past couple of years to make she-hulk comic one the funniest and best marvel put out? Just waste everything they have done and John Bryne and everyone did before them. What's is the stupid point of another Search For She-Hulk or Making her Red She-Hulk (if that is what they are doing) or depowing her? Why make us fans feel like we have wasted time and money? Why this? I want my Jennifer Walters Green She-Hulk and not Lyra or Red She-Hulk. I don't want this.

Can we please get the rest of Christopher Priest's Black Panther run collected?

I'd just like to say how much I agree with this question and hope it gets asked. Just in case popularity had anything to do with questions being asked. Given the recent major reveal of Marvelman now being a Marvel property, it seems to make sense; up until the final issue of Captain Britain & MI:13, characters like Dark Angel and Death's Head II hadn't been featured in a comic book for fifteen years.
And, just to repeat Sword's question, is there any chance we'll see more of the characters in future? And, from all of us MI:13 fans, Joe, is there any chance for more stories from the team (particularly if Cornell, Kirk and Lowe return to the title)?

A 'cool" Alpha Flight pitch would get greenlit?
OK, Van Lente, Millar, Fraction, et al, you heard the man!
After all, over at alphaflight.net there are a lot, A LOT, of cool Alpha Flight stories to inspire anyone pitching AF to Joe Q! If non-professionals ca do that, surely Joe, you have one in your hands from a pro you know?

Mr Quesada,
There is presently an 11 page discussion thread going on on the Marvel Comics Forum at CBR about transgender superheroes. I know you don't go out of your way to introduce characters from different backgrounds but rather use them as is appropriate to the story, which I appreciate, but I was wondering if, like the situation with gay characters a while back, there would be any problem introducing either a main or supporting character who was overtly transgender into Marvel Comics?
Thank you for your time.

Mr. Quesada--
I'm a relative newbie to the Marvel universe (meaning I have seen some Spider-Man, X-Men, etc.), and I definitely have some questions regarding Marvel:
1) I picked up the first Marvel MasterWorks TPB of the original X-Men comic not too long ago, and I unfortunately am quite hooked. My question is about digital comics, and not the kind I have to be connected to the Web for (like Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited). Will there either be a rerelease of the GIT Corp DVDs from Marvel Comics (like 40 Years of X-Men), except under the Marvel label, or are there other plans for digital comics from Marvel, especially with Longbox Digital Comics beginning to make inroads among comics fans and comic book publishers alike? If it's neither of those, will we be able to read Marvel Comics either per issue or per set of issues (like TPBs and such)?
2) My next question is a question regarding Dark Reign. I saw in the CCI 2009 coverage that Norman Osborn (aka the Green Goblin) has somehow managed to come back from the land of dead Marvel characters. So I guess Norman is going back to his evil ways? And if so, is Spidey going to kick his ass again?
3) My final question is about keeping up with all the weird continuity in the different universes, like the Brand New Day storyline that took away Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson's marriage, the wacko alternative futures or pasts or presents in the X-line, and the millions of different crossovers, like the recent Civil War storyline. There has to be a Keeping Up With Marvel For Dummies or something like that for all the different storylines in the Marvel universe, or at least a way for fans (who might not want to use Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited) to be able to read different storylines before they read a particular issue?
Thanks again Mr. Quesada for answering our questions!

In a press release about artist Ron Frenz being was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the ToonSeum at its annual fundraiser on June 5, 2009, it mentions that he is drawing a Black Knight series.
Can you please confirm this?

Hey Joe. A couple of questions about Marvelman, since we're dying for more info here in the forums; firstly, on a personal note, are you keeping him British? And secondly, the more important question that EVERYONE is asking . . . will Marvelman's adventures take place in the mainstream Marvel Universe, the MAX imprint or elsewhere? Or is that something everyone is staying tight-lipped about?
. . . He's Norman Osborn's enforcer, isn't he? . . . Isn't he!? . . . Answer the question!
*ahem*

hey, in regards to a previous question about Blade, it was said that currently there are no plans for the character, but it ,however, has been revealed that Millar is incorporating the character into the Ultimate universe, a Blade anime and spin-off have also been talked about, so are there concrete plans for the character outside of the major marvel universe?
Also wondering if any other characters will be incorporated into the digicomics ,which seem to be a great idea for characters with solid fanbases?

I am a subscriber and a big fan of Marvel Digital Comics. But I'm a little disappointed with the job Marvel does in providing a connection with their readers. We seem to be treated like second-class citizens. There is no Digital Comics Forum on Marvel.com, and my persistent attempts to even start a dialog about ways to promote the line have led to nuked threads and threats of a ban from one particular moderator who seems to have a bee in his bonnet about MDC and comes after me like he's a Pinkerton agent and I'm trying to start a union....
I'm not sure why you wouldn't use every tool at your disposal to promote it, and Marvel's Official Website certainly seems to be a powerful tool.
Also, when I make suggestions or point out problems with the feedback form, I tend to get a very generic form response that doesn't seem to address my concerns.
It seems a very cold and impersonal product. Which is sad, because I enjoy it very much and would like to see it grow. Can't Marvel do something to provide a more open form of interaction with it's loyal subscribers. If we can't get a Digital Comics Forum, can we at least get a blog where where we get updates and some insight into the day to day workings behind the program? Just a human face where we can get our questions answered by a real human being...
-
As long as the digital format is being brought up, I'd like to add my opinion. I think the present format is unappealing at Marvel.com. I don't want to rent the copy. I preferred the product put out by Graphic Imaging Technology several years back using Adobe. I have the Fantastic Four DVD and it's great for referencing the whole FF run up to that point in time. The company unfortunately no longer has the rights to produce these discs. Is Marvel looking into this kind of product?

I have to agree. I'm not saying adding the other characters where bad choices. It's just that every single time she started to climb out of the hole, she got shoved right back. All of the other 5 Hulk characters are active (Bruce is still there), yet shes the one to go missing? (not to mention Samson) Isn't this saga/arc whatever you want to call it, about all of them? Why did Loeb deem it necessary to remove one. It just doesn't seem fair to the fans that stuck through the 10 years of being absent, to just seem to be wasted. Right now, I see no hope for her, again. Loeb lost me as a reader. I'll just be reading IH. Because, at least, her names mentioned there.

From Comic-Con
Hey Joe, I asked this question at Comic-Con this weekend and you asked me to post it for Cup O' Joe: how much does Norman Osborn know about S.W.O.R.D.? Does he have direct knowledge of its existence or is it basically a mystery to him? And if he knows about it, how much influence (legal or otherwise) does he have over its operations?
Thanks Joe! I had a great time at all the Marvel panels this weekend!
-
Marvel-Man. When will we get a paperback reprint of his past comics, including the Alan Moore run?
And are there any creator names linked to Marvel-Man past and future projects you can tell us about? I can't wait to read this stuff, I never have before! Thanks Joe!
-
Yo Joe. With news of a brand new RED SHE-HULK coming soon, I don't suppose we'll be seeing a Red Hulkling anytime soon? What about She-Hulkling? Grey Hulkling? Seriously though, will Hulkling play a role of any kind in World War Hulks? What about plans for the character in general specifically with the fallout of Secret Invasion and the Skrull Empire?
-
Just a reminder:
This is NOT a discussion thread. This is the thread that CBR's staff will go through to pick questions form. Discussion threads are automatically generated for each CUP O' JOE feature, so please keep chatter on those pieces to their respective threads. This one is JUST FOR QUESTIONS.
Thanks.

Hey Joe
I would like to ask about the decision to axe Parkers excellent new run of Exiles after only 6 issues!:frown: Why was this book given such a small amount of time to prove itself compared to other low selling titles? Do you think that it was brought back too quickly following the cancellation of New Exiles? And is there any chance that their adventures could continue as a back up feature in a $3.99 book? It would be a shame for Blink to vanish into limbo again.
Thanks
Scouse Mouse

Hi Joe, as a fan of She-Hulk (Jen Walters) this hasn't really been great year, with her book canceling among other things. I want to know will there things coming up in the next year for Jen fans to get excited about? After all next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the character, While I am still talking about Jen will her Sensational series be available in trade form in the coming future?
-
Hi Joe,
With Kelly's story in Amazing 600 it looks like Ana Kraven and her mother will be coming up this year, I'm guessing as part of the Gauntlet story. With them involved might Alyosha Kravinoff and/or Xravin from Gage's X-Men/Spider-Man mini make an appearance or at least be mentioned?
Also any chance we might get see the last Scarlet Spider from Avengers: The Initiative appear in Amazing?
-
Hello!
Back during Civil War, Brian Reed wrote an amazing story (my favorite part of Civil War) featuring Julia Carpenter (Arachne) in Ms Marvel. It truly was great. Since then, Julia had another story in Ms. Marvel, the 5 issue Omega Flight series, and then a few appearances in the Weapon Omega story in Marvel Comics Presents. Other than that, she has been largely neglected. Julia has a lot of fans out here...she was even voted one of the most popular Avengers back several years ago...and I think there is plenty of room in the MU for her, even with Jessica Drew running around as Spider-Woman. So I was wondering, are there any plans for Julia to make a comeback in the Marvel Universe?
Thanks for your time!

Yo Joe!
-Great to see writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's continuing work at Marvel, so I'm curious if there are any plans in motion for "The Unholy War" storyline he's been hinting about in his previous projects?
-Congrats on becoming Chief Creative Officer of Animation. Juding from some of the crop of projects coming up from Marvel, it's going to be an exciting year for Marvel animation. I am curious if there's interest in featuring Marvel characters we haven't yet seen in animation before such as Luke Cage, Iron Fist, or the Sentry?
-
Bare bones editions
Joe,
Marvel has been offering extra sized issues such as Amazing Spiderman and The Incredible Hulk 600 issues with back up stories, which usually comes at a higher price. Why can't you also offer the same issue without the backups, just the main story for a lower price? I know others may like the backups, but I don't, and I don't want to be forced to pay for them. Also, as was the case with The Incredible Hulk, I already purchased the original issue of Hulk Gray, and now I had to buy it again?! Please start offering a basic version of these issues. Thanks!
-
Hi Joe,
I was just wondering if there is any chance of bringing Kitty Pryde to the x-men comics?
She isn't even dead! (I think)
-
Yo Joe.
We all know about Skaar, the Son of Hulk, and Lyra, the daughter of Hulk and Thundra, but do you recall the most famous Hulk child of all, Carmilla Black aka The Scorpion? Writer Fred Van Lente has been teasing Scorpion as a child of Banner for some time, but has yet to give readers a definite answer. Will we find out soon if there really is another Hulk sibling?
-
Joe,
Regarding Mary Jane Watson, is "Jane" her middle name? Is "Mary Jane" one name?
-
Joe, some easy questions
usually when you're asked a question about a controversial story with a character, such as the Rictor/Shatterstar coming out as gay Plot point in X-factor, you're usual response is something along the line of a "if it makes a good story we'll do it", defense. Now that the creator of Shatterstar, himself has said that shatterstar is not gay, and there have been no other past indications that he or Rictor were gay, then doesn't that take the characters out of character? And if the characters are not in character, then doesn't that mean that it would, infact, be a bad story by definition?
Also, I'd like to point out that there are now three gay characters associated with the New Mutants/X-force.(Karma, Shatterstar, and Rictor) Are we suddenlly gonna see Cannonball and Sunspot come out of the closet?
