I vaguely (sp?) remember something like this used in an advertisement (print) or as an illustration in a Wired mag or something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Where's this contest? I know the answer, buy why should I give it to you so you could win when I can win myself?

It's for a 50 hour trivia marathon that happens each February in St. Cloud, Minnesota. You can find more info at www.kvsc.org and click on their triva link.
Each year they give us a few tidbits on some questions in the form of "visual trivia". We don't know what the answer will be so we have to research as much as possible before the contest starts. This will be one of nearly 500 questions given out over the entire 3 days.
So in reality, unless you're playing on a competing team, you could help us out through the goodness of your own heart. There would be nothing more in it for you. That's all I can appeal to.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Who, in Marvel's name, is Vest Man. I've never heard of him. Is he Marvel? D.C. ? Image? What's his deal?
Thanks again for any help.

It was a JOKE. It's because he is wearing a vest. I actually don't know who that is.

Sounded funny, now that I know it was a joke.

It's almost assuredly not Marvel or DC. Based on the art style, I'd put it in the late '80s/early '80s, part of the massive but short-lived black-and-white explosion of indy comics from the time.
No idea who it is. The equal sign logo on the chest indicates to me that he may be a gay character.

Or an Equal Opportunity lender.

Reminds me of someone from the AC (or Femforce) line of comics. Like Paragon or someone like him.

Worst part is, every time I look at it, my brain screams "Mike Gustovich!" at me, even though it's NOTHING like Mike's style.
Stoopid brain! Shutup, willya?

That's exactly what I was thinking. That's where I would spend my energy.

I wonder if he's from that black and white genre as mentioned (80's-90's) but maybe even a "teaching" hero like "Math Man" or "Captain Equation" or something like that.
I bought plenty of crap in those days that were in b/w that looked like they were illustrated by sophomore art students at the JuCo. He looks like he was some student's "make a character to teach kids how to add" for their art project.
Captain Solution? (because of the equals sign)

Madness I tell you! I can't find anything math based either. For some reason I remember it being part of an ad campaign for an online trading company or some such like Ameritrade or something. Oh well.
Thanks for everyones help. I'll post where it's from after the contest in Feb for anyone interested.
Thanks again,
Randy

You might try posting it over on the Classic Comics board. Perhaps one of the mega-brains over there knows.
But...seriously, this is a MAJOR stumper if it's gone this long and NONE of the geeks here have a clue.
