Though I'm not really a fan of either musician, framed vinyl records? Very nice.
Interestingly enough, in a year in which I failed to tell my folks what I wanted for Christmas, my brother Dane had a better idea of what I would like without any overt suggestions. In this case he got me the Who's Tommy and the book The Clash: Return of the Last Gang in Town. I never gave any hints that I was really chomping for Tommy (as opposed to other albums I mentioned) though I found it an interesting choice nonetheless. Originally I figure that it's choice spun out me telling him how the album broke the Who America where I mentioned that I hadn't gotten the album yet. More interesting was finding out that Dane's choice might have been predicated on having heard the track "Sparks" and actually put the album on Christmas Day for me to hear because he liked it. Giving music because you like it and you figure that the other person might. As a music fan I like that sort of thing.
(I'm listening to it right now. It's pretty good, though I find the lyrics a bit awkward in their attempt to tell a unified story. For some reason it intrudes on the songs themselves. Mind you I often need several spins to really get into an album so I'll see where it goes.)
I am somewhat surprised by the Clash book though since I hadn't dropped any hints about it as of late and am not sure how fully I communicated to him the fact that I am a total, arse-licking Clash City Rocker. Either way, I am so I'm not complaining!
(And yes I am diving right into it, irregardless of having a copy CRIME AND PUNISHMENT on the nightstand that my Grandma's husband George leant me and copies of PARIS 1919 and a biography of Churchill that he also leant us. The Clash comes first!)
Though I'm not really a fan of either musician, framed vinyl records? Very nice.
thanks :)
if you take a close look, you'll see they're both autograhphed too !

Egads! How did you acquire such things? Find some of the stolen pirate gold that is used to fund the development of golf courses?

nope, I happen to live in Austin, Texas. . home of the International Record Convention. . . .http://www.austinrecords.com/
spotted them in early Nov. during the Winter version. . and got em fairly cheap too. . (only $125 each, cause it was the last day, and believe it or not, they weren't selling for the $290 price he was wanting and he said he'd give me a deal for both. . and I offered $250).
heh. . it was meant to be not only were the two he was having trouble selling two that Nick is a fan of, but the colors are perfect for several things he has. . and the fact the matting is inverted made them a natural pair.
he had some VERY nice Rolling Stones (Undercover) and Beatles (Let it Be) that sold for over $600 each . the Stones had the entire band signed.
I have his card, and most likely, I'll buy somehting from him at the next version of the convention (in April, I think)

You the bass guitar!? WOOHOO!!!
So are you going to form that band you talked about once you learn how to be merely mediocre on it?

I spent the Chapters gift card my gramma gave me for Christmas today on The Wu-Tang Manual by the RZA. It should be fairly interesting.

"Redemption Songs" by Jars of Clay is a great reworking of classic hymns. It was a gift I wasn't expecting but was pleasantly surprised with.

Ya know . . . as weird as it is- I actually do too! That or Hot Puss. Lame, I know. I think it is just a weird impulse, since Highschool a friend and I have always "re-named/re-lyric-ed" songs. My personal best was transmogryfying(sp?) Portishead's "You don't get something for nothing" to "You don't go shopping for muffins". . . yes I'm a geek, thats why I'm here.
Anyhow;
Gave my 17 year old nephew Arcade Fire and Bright Eyes cd's
Gave my older brother Nouvelle Vague (Female French Pop vocal covers of Late 70's early 80's new wave and punk songs- awesome if you haven't heard it and tha's your era, check it out.
Gave my Dad The Legend of Johnny Cash (and a video game)
Gave everybody else napster gift memberships (but got in trouble with my other brother [Baptist Minister] when I gave him the link to the napstergirl video instead of the Napster web site).:(
