So what's with Black Mask's face?

So what's the deal? Is he a skeleton or something? How come his hands are normal? Or is he all black skeleton under there? And how did he get that way?

No...the mask was burnt on his face. It's the black mask that was on his father's casket. He wore it and it got burnt on his face somehow.

This was awhile back.

But because of the accident, he can used some putty stuff to mimic everyone. He even fooled Batman with it on.

I believe they also removed the mask itself but it didn't matter because his face ended up being shaped that way. Something like that.

He used be more look more 'mask-like' and then in Brubaker's Catwoman run he suddenly had the black-skull look.

I much prefer the post-Brubaker Black Mask, myself. Both in look and character.

I had forgotten all about that. I really didn't care for him back then, anyway, but now, I just love his character. The only thing is is that he's a mirror of the Joker, Character wise, I mean.

because i remember reading some older batman back issues where black mask was a fairly husky guy wearing a mask, and all his henchmen did too.

Heh, I always thought of Black Mask as Skeletor's little brother whom he tortured every chance he got.

I got the issue where it happened (and surprise surprise, Jason Todd was the Robin at the time), and for some reason when they revealed it for the first time...he looked like Lee Majors.

Now, I don't know if that was intentional or not, but if it WAS...did he rip off his face cause he got tired of looking like The Fall Guy?
