If you had seen the movie Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow then you would see that Angelina look 100% like Honor in that film. That is why I think she should be considered for hte part.

I honestly don't care if she looks the part. Her "Angelina Jolie-ness" and the attendant BS attention would take away from the greatness of the character and the story.

Kathryn Morris would be great as Honor IMHO. She's Det. Lilly Rush from Cold Case.
Other candidates: Charisma Carpenter (Angel, Veronica Mars), Jennifer Garner (Alias), Carla Gugino (Sin City, Spy Kids), Alexa Davalos (Chronciles Of Riddick, Angel), Tracy Scoggins (Babylon 5, Lois & Clark), Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Eragon), Miranda Otto (Lord Of the Rings), Naomi Watts (The Ring, King Kong) and Natassia Malthe (Elektra).

Some basic info for anybody not familiar with the books-
David Weber writes the Honor Harrington series (and yes, Honor is a female). The series was loosely based on/inspired by Horatio Hornblower but set in the future. The tech was set up so that battle tactics resemble naval warfare tactics from the late 1700's (though as the war progresses new technologies and tactics are developed). There are 11 books in the series proper plus 3 anthology series and two side projects. I've read the first ten books and I LOVE them. The good guys are rather British (The Space Kingdom of Manticore). The villains are effectively French communists (The People's Republic of Haven).
I wonder how long before Solaris discovers this thread. She's a huge fan of the series.

I hope the movie does well. It is rare to have a space opera movie with the hero of the series being a female instead of the other way around. Just hope the Hollywood folks wont go all girl power on the movie.

I haven't seen Coyote Ugly so is that a good way or a bad way to discribe the Honor Series?

Hooray for one of the most overrated ongoing sci-fi series! Just think: a Heinlein novel or one of the Culture novels by Iain M. Banks won't get filmed so that this can get the celluloid treatment. Can't you just smell my excitement?

Im not pleased that Discworld isn't being filmed but you dont see me hating Harry Potter only because it is more mainstream than Discworld is. If you dont like it then have a better reason why you dont like it instead of the same "because it's overrated" excuse.

I don't dislike HH because it's "mainstream" (which it isn't). I dislike it because I don't like it.

Kelly Hu? She is sorta asian isn't she? The last time I checked Honor is far from asian.
I would say that woman who played Jean Grey in X-Men 1 & 2 for Honor.

As much as I want to agree with you, especially since Emma is developing nicely, I dont think the movie makers would want to wait that long.
Then again this could be the film Emma needs to get away from Harry Potter when she gets older.

I think Honor Harrington would fit better as a live-action tv series (ala Battlestar Galactica) then a movie franchise. While the budget would be better they'd have to condense it a *lot* more since movies only have an hour or two to fit in.

I hope they remember to interrupt the action every five minutes with in-depth explanations of the technical details and heavy-handed political allegory.
Otherwise, it just won't be the same.

What? You want the thread to look like this?
"I'm excited!"
"Me too!"
"Honor Harrington is awesome!"
(Repeat ad nauseam)
I read the news. I'm not excited. I wanted to express that, like FBH and Expletive Deleted, I don't like HH, and I think the money to make a movie could be far better spent on adaptations from innumerable better sci-fi authors, like Heinlein and Banks.

As much as I would love to see it, I'm afraid they would do to it what they did to Starship Troopers.
As for the Honor Harrington movie, my brother got the first book for Christmas so I'll get to read that soon and decide whether I'll like a movie based on it. As of right now though as long as the story is okay and the battles look cool I say go for it.

That list really has me scratching my head as to what the character is suppossed to look like. Marg Helgenburger or Lucy Liu, for the same role!?

She's a tall, muscular women from a heavy grav planet who is half-asian. She has long, brown hair and thanks to their medical technology she looks about 20 (her chronological age is 45 in the first book, iirc).

I'm a big Hornblower fan and i couldnt read Honor book 1 because how he copied Horatio. It was too much for me. Character wise it was a copy cat.
