View Full Version : Is there any activity that makes Batman genuinely...happy?

Hi Batguys.

I'm a Batfan who never read any of the monthly titles, and I'm curious about some aspects of Batman's personality.

Firstly...is there anything that makes Batman truly happy?

And I don't mean the sense of satisfaction he probably gets by being a feared force of vengeance...I mean something simple that puts him in a good mood, like the way we feel when collect our stacks at the end of the month.

Something that might actually make him smile while he does it.

Is there anything like that? A TV show maybe? A hobby?

I'd assume he doesn't dislike the volunteer work he does as Bruce Wayne.

It's been implied that even in the Post-COIE continuity, the happiest years of Batman's life were during the time when Dick Grayson was Robin. During those years, Dick's lighthearted approach to crimefighting alongside Batman helped even Bruce to see that it could be as much freewheeling adventure as it was grim obligation to the memory of his slain parents.

Things went downhill after Dick and Bruce became estranged and went their separate ways, however.

I imagine sitting in the Batcave plotting new ways of disabling his allies in secret while building spy satellites, both of which, along with probably a few hundred other plans we know nothing about yet but which are being hijacked by other super-villains, must bring a smile to his face...:)

Well seeing that Bruce has a choloric personality. I would have to say that 'his work is his play'. So I guess what makes him smile is:

Working out.
Strategising different ways for Wayne Enterprises to make more money.
Strategising how to keep Gotham safer
Being 'pleasured' in bed by one of his various girlfriends.
Out smarting meta's.

BATMAN: BROKEN CITY showed us that Bruce likes to relax by grilling steaks, though he sucks at it.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, in IC #3 she ADMITTED that Batman was right about her and her actions.

Even SUPERMAN admitted(not in words but in actions) that Batman was right about what he said and is now DOING something about it.

Oh, and there've only been FOUR Robins. Well, three and a half if you count the time Stephanie ACTUALLY spent as Robin.

If your going to count Carrie Kelly. Then count Tom Wayne from Robin 3000, and Bruce Wayne Jr. from Byrne's Generations.

Things that make Batman happy:

* Withholding information from allies.

* Ordering people around.

* Making Superman look stupid.

* Trouncing anybody with powers.

* Sobbing in a dark corner when nobody's looking , sucking his thumb and moaning, "I'm better than them... I'm better than ALL of them...."

* Inventing new standards for others to meet and telling them how they don't measure up to your satisfaction.

* Preening.

Are you talking about Dark Knight Returns?

If so, Carrie Kelley was red-headed AND it was an Elseworlds, not in continuity. So we CAN leave her out.

Crunching thugs faces. :D

But for a serious answer, there is nothing for Batman to be happy about. The way he has been written over the last three years, he really has nothing to be happy about.

His life is just plain shit right now.

Plus on top of that he overcompensates for most of his personal and "professional" life.

Probably his relationship with Selina Kyle brings some light to his life.

Also, Alfred. We mustn't forget that Alfred is essentially both his father figure and best friend.

And, following IC, I'm pretty sure his relationship with Superman will at least be partially mended. A lot of this seems to be a way for cathathis for Bats.
