It's been about two years since I read this incredible book, but I was just thinking about it.

Ignatius was an interesting character, no? The story behind the story, (the novelist killed himself, the mom took the unpublished manuscript to a Professor to get him to publish it- it almost didn't happen.), the humor, the satire, the sadness, the hot dogs, the vivid New Orleans descriptions.

Anybody read it and if so, have good memories?

Heh, when I read the title I thought you were going to write about the Canadian Election.

Sounds like a interesting book though. Who wrote it?

John Kennedy Toole.

I agree with Nathan: Ignatius is a great character I believe he's the most despicable literary character I've come across. (He made into into my "League of unpresentable gentlemen" a few months ago).

Great book. I read it probably twenty years ago, and really should get around to reading it again.

My memories of the book are very fond.

One of my top 5 favourite books of all-time. My Dad first gave me his copy when I was 12 years old, but I really didn't get it. I tried again late in high school and loved it.

Ignatius is such a great character - so arrogant, so self centered, so delusional.

If you are ever in New Orleans, keep an eye out for the statue of Ignatius on Canal Street.

This is probably my favorite book. I read it three years ago when I was unemployed and just out of college. And this is the kind of book you should read when you're unemployed and just out of college. Maybe as a cautionary tale if anything. There's none of that Kerouac bs bohemian romanticism.

You know when I first read it Ignatius Reilly kind of reminded of some of the people on this board. Won't name names of course ;)

You'll never look at a Lucky Dog the same again after reading this book. Of course, most people usually puke after eating a Lucky Dog anyway, but that's another story :D

I agree that Ignacious is one of the most disturbing characters in literature. The scen where he dreams about his dog is one of the more disturbing I've ever read.

Just an FYI, Drew Barrymore owns the film rights to the book. I wonder if it'll ever be produced and who would end up playing Ignacious?

David Gordon Green who direct George Washington and All the Real Girls was going to make one with Will Farrell as the lead.

But I don't think that's happening.

I just started reading it on the back of several enthusiastic recommendations. So far I'm enjoying it a lot. Plus, as luck should have it, the copy I borrowed from my father's library has turned out to be a first edition, so I get to be, I don't know, extra fancy. Eheh.

What a shame.
