I'm reading through Chuck Austen superman tpbs and I have few question about previous/current characters.
1. Who are the Futuresmiths?
2. Who is Cir-El?
3. Is Magog and Gog the same character?
I'm intersted in the backstory of these characters. What issues did they appear in and if it was collected as tpb?

Cir-El is that Matrix-goo-Supergirl of the early 90's and featured in Death of Superman.

The background on the Futuresmiths I don't recall, but I know they took a homeless girl off the street and turned her into a new Supergirl (black hair, black suit) who thought she was Superman's daughter from the future. She thought her real name was Cir-El.
Gog and Magog are different characters, I believe. At some point, the Gog character would theoretically inspire a kid to become Magog, in time for him to grow up and be the Magog in Kingdom Come. But since Magog is from one of many alternate futures, there's no guarantee that he's show up in "regular" continuity.

Man, don't let the Peter David Supergirl fans read this.....! lol
Cir-El was the Matrix Supergirl's supposed replacement created by Steven Seagle for his "Futuresmiths" plot that ran through 2003. Fortunately, a year later, in Superman #200, she met her demise when she was erased from existence during the time storm that was brought on by the B-13 time displacement. Which also hit the reset button on the landscape of Metropolis just in time for "Birthright" to be added to canon.

Me neither.
In fact, I'm not really fond of any of them, pre and post.
Although, Helen Slater made me feel kind of funny when I was younger, like when Garth climbed the rope in gym class.
