the new DCU is going to be based on Earth 2, and as such there won't be a JLA, just a JSA?

I don't think so. The book's been in a bit of a rut recently, with rotating creative teams, and little interest from fans (with the exception of the recent Johns/Heinberg/Batista run).

I think they cancelled so that they can launch it with a new creative team and new #1, to attract readers. It wouldn't surprise me if they relaunch it as JLU to attract fans of the cartoon.

They might get rid of the "of America" and just call it "Justice League", though.

The major DC characters are going to go through a number of changes thanks to OYL, and they probably want to establish the new status quo in their own books rather than having them team up to begin with.

All of the above, I should think, with the exception of the Earth-2 theory. Geoff Johns most certainly didn’t give us the conclusion in issue two of a mini-series this big. What we got was Earth-2 Superman’s motivation and goal. There are other factions yet to be introduced. Don’t jump to conclusions because fear the direction you think you see. Same if this idea excites you. Bottom line:

We don’t know yet.

I predict that the title will be rebooted / restarted as...

Justice League of America

and pick up the old numbering. This seems to be a popular trend (as it should) and would kind of go with the everything old is new again vibe.

Babylon23,

The book was in the top 10 last month so it must have some interest with the fans.

(Whoops, sorry, it was #11 last month with close to 80,000 people buying it...which is still good.)

Not immediately, it won’t. What’s the point of a reboot if you don’t take advantage of the sales spike a #1 issue gives you? After a year or so, yeah, then convert. That way you can reap the benefit of whatever the next anniversary. You have the best of both worlds.

Expect a big reboot and an announcement soon.

I really think with JLU winding down and the chances of a live action JLA being nil, Didio may be planning for the book to end semi-permanantly. Possibly to be replaced with a new JLA book... Or possibly with a focus on making JSA the premiere team (which is much easier to market to movie studios).

Except that DC seems to be avoiding #1 reboots. They are rebooting Aquaman with a new title without going to #1, same with Hawkgirl.

What about Wonder Woman and Flash? New #1's, or continuing the old numbering?

A new creative team is supposed to be announced in this week's wizard, I hear.

How is that easier to market?

Old numbering as in the current JLA title's numbering, or the original JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA title (1960-1985) from the Silver/Bronze Age?

original numbering of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (60-85).

There have been too many variations of the original. JLoA, became Justice Leage International, Justice League Europe, Justice League America (no OF), then JLA.

I think it would be awesome to return to the old JLoA title.

Why was a thread about the Justice League moved to the Infinite Crisis board? That's sort of daft.

Didio might be operating under the assumption that everything Quesada does is wrong.

Really? Wow. I didn't realise the number were so high. I stand corrected. Thanks for the figures.

The book seems to have drifted through a lot of creative teams in recent years, and with JLA Classified following the same format, it seems unnecessary to continue the main book this way.

I'm interested to see who the new creative team is, and I hope it's a long-term one.

According to Wizard, the new creative team is:

Brad Meltzer and Ed Benes.

That's a sadistic sick joke, isn't it? Isn't it?

The film rights to Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Batman and Superman are all divied out. Aquaman, Green Arrow and Hawkman probably also.

We might eventually get a movie with Batman and Superman (Jon Peters/Warner Bros. had the rights to both) but you could never get anything approximating a classic JLA roster made live action. You MIGHT for Television as a Smallville spinoff or another cartoon or something... But the screen rights are far more complicated to deal with and I wouldn't expect it in my lifetime.

Whereas most of the JSA is unclaimed and could probably be taken by a single producer. I'm not sure if they could get Flash, Green Lantern or Hawkman. (Jay Garrick is supposed to be in the new Flash movie, at least.) But you could do a fairly classic JSA story without those three.

Whereas doing a JLA movie without ANY of the big seven would be tricky. The only thing I'm thinking that MIGHT have some studio clout would be a reworking of IDENTITY CRISIS without the "Big Seven".
