Does anybody else think he looks better without ears, ala in the animated Justice League?

I do. He looks sleeker and more alien.

A true Martian needs no ears nor pants.

Hey, I've never noticed that.
Huh.
A sign of good design that is, methinks.

No , he's a classic character with a classic design , doesn't need to change at all.

Believe me, I wouldn't change anything else about him except for his ears. J'onn has one of those costumes where no matter how silly it actually is when you try to break it down, I could not possibly imagine a better look for the character.
As lonewolf mentioned, I think it gives a much sleeker, more alien look. I always imagined him without ears even before the JL cartoon and the ears always seemed to look out of place to me.

I like the no ears look, too. However, I am not a fan of the costume. Maybe it worked fifty years ago, but I think if he ditched the fedora and business suit look, he can ditch the cape and trunks. Batman and Wonder Woman updated their costumes, why not J' onn?

I much prefer the JLU design. It's more alien and less spandexy muscle-bound guyish.

Its not a costume, but some sort of plant that lives in symbios with him.
