I just thought the cover looked very cool and had some interesting things going on:

Looks like we're getting a new Rocket Red, Sasha's going a bit more proactive and superheroic and Brother Eye goes down for the count. Seems like a major victory to me and a definitely lead-in to Greg Rucka's S.H.I.E.L.D.'esque Checkmate.

and it looks like Fire's going to get some payback for Rocket Red/Dmitri.
I guess we'll also find out where Brother I has been hiding

Yeah, Fire and the league got whupped by the OMAC's so this is definitely payback.

I'm mildly looking forward to this.
This really needs to answer a lot of questions I have. For me, The OMAC Project had a less-than-stellar ending so I really hope he does a better job on this.
And as for the cover art...
Good cover art but Rucka's covers have precedence (Sp?) of not matching the story inside the cover so I am only 40% sure that's gonna happen.

Anyone else notice that Sasha doesn't look like a deformed OMAC anymore?

Keep in mind Bea used to be a spy.
Looks like a pretty solid/interesting pitch for a covert ops side of the DCU.

Every time Rucka has used a JLI character, they never last long. I don't think this is a good sign for Fire.

Since the multiverse seemed to be back , the pre-crisis mohawk OMAC and brother eye should come back to kick this pretender's butt. ;)

Does anyone know why this is a $1 more than the other one shots for Crisis?
Also, um Fire was used before.. and she didn't die.

No, she was only injured before she could do anything. And he killed off Rocket Red, Blue Beetle and Maxwell Lord, and made Booster Gold run away before any serious fighting occured.
JLI characters just do not do well in his hands and I hate to see another one ruined.

Hmmm.... now why would Booster run off? SO he could never return... or so he could come back and do something heroically in Crisis?
Fire is not going to die.

Well, you don't know that any more than I do.
My gut, and based on his past writings, say that she is going to die pretty soon. Maybe not in Omac but in Checkmate.

Or maybe she'll be a major character in the Checkmate series.

Maybe, but just based on what Rucka has written in the past I kinda doubt it. He doesn't have much respect for these characters at all.

Why would DC kill off one of its few espionage-based characters?
I'd lay higher odds on Rucka and J. Scott Campbell doing some kind of super-powered Danger Girl-type book with Fire.
Although, IMO, the sure money in my mind is that we'll see the DEO, Chase, Fire, Rocket Red, the OMAC crew, Sasha, etc. all get refocused as the super-powered SHIELD of the DCU.

Actually, it has a lot of espionaged based characters. WHen I am at home I can get a huge list for you.
One of the problems is that in DCU espionage books (and, let's face it, espionage stories in every other medium) everybody but the main character is expendible and die quickly. If it is a team book...then everybody is expendible.
And Rucka just doesn't like these characters. He said in the past that he doesn't like things that don't take themselves seriously. Fire will probably be in the new Checkmate but will probably die within the first 12 issues so it can be real and shocking.

I don't really mind if it paves the way for new characters (or ones to continue the legacy) although I'd like for Sasha and Fire to stay around.

I'm just happy she hasn't been killed off in IC at that particular point in time yet. I do think she'll be the "ex-JLA member who tries to resurrect their friend" as hinted in the Wizard "52 Teasers".
If I had to guess, they're setting up Booster and Fire to be JLA members when the teams reform. Supposedly, the new JLA is going to be more like the Satellite League and have members from each incarnation--of which Fire seems like a natural fit from her era. (And Booster is certainly going to be receiving an A-Level push from the sounds of it)

Hey, TC, if he doesn't like things that don't take themselves seriously, wouldn't it be great if he penned them so that they started doing just that? I'd buy that for a dollar.
