Post your booty here, I say.

Finally got the Kids In the Hall first season, lot of good stuff, but I'm not sure it's ageing as well as I'd hoped. Mr. Show had me on the ground laughing, when many, many of these sketches are not really actually funny in any meaningful way.

Still worth getting.

DEAD MAN'S HAND

For X-box. I'm a sucker for cowboy stuff. This game got pretty poor reviews, and I've actually enjoyed it quite a lot so far. One scene has you riding a horse, shooting at bandits with a shotgun. That's good fun.

The last DVD I got was Kill Bill volume 1 to refresh my memory before seeing Kill Bill volume 2.
Man... I just love Tarantino's writing. Excellent weaving of plot and dialogue.

As far as games go, a friend and I have been playing Anarchy Online. Pretty cool, but it can really eat up your time.

I'm going to be getting Xbox Live very soon, as over at Millarworld we've got a whole slew of people slowly, but surely, signing up - there's even a forum dedicated to it. We're going to geek out and play eachother online, plus I'm going to snag a bunch of my university friends into the fray as they have Xbox Live as well and want in.

Gail - you should get Xbox Live. Do it.

I haven't bought a DVD in ages, kinda between jobs and strapped for cash but I got a $5 DVD criterion collection version of Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast... I love this movie.

Music wise I want to get the CDs of Modest Mouse and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's but they sound an awful lot like Talking Heads and the Pretenders respectively... so i want to listen to them and get a real feel for them.

I haven't gotten the Modest Mouse disc, but I've heard good things. The Yeah Yeah Yeah's on the other hand - well I was a fan before they went all MTV. I really can't stand anything I like being on TRL. I just can't.

But it's a pretty good disc, and while they do sound a wee bit like the Pretenders, they've got their own sound.

I have to confess that I just bought Grease 2. I know it's a bad movie, but I still love it. Some of the girls I used to go to high school with liked it too, so I know I'm not completely alone in this.

Jet (these guys sound like the Rolling Stones/Iggy Pop)
Yeah Yeah Yeah's (sounds like the Pretenders)
the Darkness (sounds like Queen)
Modest Mouse (sounds like the Talking Heads)
My Morning Jacket and The Thorns (CSNY)

Lauren is the Tori Amos: Welcome to Sunny Florida DVD new?

Yes, it just came out today.

It's a DVD of her last concert on the Scarlet's Walk Tour, which took place in 2002/2003. I saw her twice on that tour and she was absolutely amazing. I haven't watched the entire DVD, but what I have seen of it, it's bloody brilliant. It also comes with a CD - three of the SW b-sides and three new songs. Those are also a nice little treat for any Tori Amos fan.

Details on the DVD and disc can be found at the Dent here (http://www.thedent.com/sunny.html).

Last DVD's I got were the second season of CSI and a couple of movies - Final Destination 2 (sucker for bad horror flicks), Daredevil (hey, I liked it!) and a few others - I no longer buy full price DVDs - I just wait for a sale to roll around...

As for games, the Japanese Medal of Honour for PS2 and - ahem- Wolverines Revenge for Gamecube (Mark Hammill as Wolverine!) were the last two I picked up. Oh, and Super Monkey Ball for GC!

agree to a point, there's indeed influence by them but the music is different. I'd say that My Morning Jacket takes more from The Band than CSNY.

You can also add nterpol sounding like Joy Division. Not that I mind, I like most of the bands you mentioned there.

As for what I've picked up, the debut slef title album of "The Cansecos" and so far it hasn't dissapointed.

I recently bought Scary Movie 3 (cause I own the 1st 2). And I bought a used copy of BloodRayne for PS2. I saw the preview for the sequel so I picked up the 1st game. It's lots of fun with the Insane Gibs Mode turned on. The enemies just fall topieces when you attack them. And if you only slice of a limp they try to get a way but eventually bleed to death. Never had so much fun playing as a half-vampire hot chick.

If you like Bloodrayne, try Nocturne. It's PC-only, but it's fantastic, walking through different brands of horror coupled with dying cultures from the early 21st century. Plus it has a two-gun pulp hero, and Bloodrayne's half-sister, Svetlana. Can't beat that.

Interestingly, the Bloodrayne game was originally supposed to be about Svetlana, but some kind of weird properties deal stepped in the way. Guess it worked out for the best though, with a sequel and a movie.

Post your booty here, I say.

Gail

I've got about 5 episodes left to watch on the Genesis Climber Mospeada boxed set. I got it off ebay for 26 bucks [including shipping]. It's a 25 episode series, about a group of loners who band together in a hopeless attempt to rid the earth of invaders known as the Invid. It was dubbed in the US as the last season of Robotech.
The japanese version is quite sad, as for every time the group wins, something worse seems to happen shortly afterwards...[ they'd be a Mars soldier named Stig, an ex-gang member girl named Hoquet, Mint the orphan looking for a house and husband, Ray the country kid who tagged along, mechanic and army deserter Jim, and fabulous female singing star/male soldier Yellow]
It's quite bittersweet, if still stuck in the Japanese Mecha show genre.

I also got and watched the End of Evangelion on DVD last night. Great animation, great story, but realllllly messes with your head, especially in the last moinute or so of the movie, when you think everything's fine....

The most recent DVD I bought was the Master & Commander special edition, which I loved extremely. The movie is pretty tough to love, but I was one of those who did, so the extra stuff makes me very happy.

The most recent game I picked up was Fight Night 2004, which is the best fight game I've ever played, giving an actual simulation of boxing, without the bruising and stuff.

Check around for sales, though it's regular price [about 80] is still pretty good for 25 episodes. The music is really good too, nice and jazzy. It feels a lot like a precursor to CowboyBebop, but more cartoony, though still great :)

My other fave mecha show is Patlabor, which is just a hoot.

Unless Best Buy has started doing business in back alleys with guys named Vic, the ALMOST FAMOUS DVD is a regular release. I think the "bootleg" title is just a cool refrence to the music scene.....

Anyway, the set has two different cuts of the movie. One version has 35 minutes of extra footage in it. There's also some behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, essays, commentaries, and music videos. Pretty cool stuff.

The latest XBox game we got was Scooby Doo Mystery Mayhem...which is actually a fun game for me too..it's very true to the series and the gameplay is quite good..of course the controls are simple since it's designed for kids, but I like simple controls too..and there's no funky camera motions..that's one thing I hate in some kids games (like the Harry Potter games)...

Deathstroke, did you get that movie because it stars Ms. Dunst or is there another reason? I have never seen it, but I imagine that if I did watch it (someday, I'm sure I will) it would only be because of Kirsten.

I actually know a girl who gets "you look like Kirsten Dunst" quite a lot. She hates it. I am trying to convince her to go with me to the first night Spider-man 2 is in theatre's and to wear a red wig! I told her if she did I would wear a Spider-man t-shirt or, only if it comes down to it, a Spider-man costume. Oh yeah, she sometimes calls me "tiger".

Yesterday I received in the mail my copy of BMW Films: The Hire DVD!! It contains the 8 short films from some amazing directors such as John Woo, plus some additional little extras.

I've only just had a chance to watch the first 2 shorts this morning before I had to leave for work, but it is awesome so far. Clive Owen (plays King Arthur in the current same name movie) plays the driver and not only are there a lot of big name directors making the shorts, but there are a lot of top actors in these shorts. Within the first two shorts so far, Don Cheadle, Ray Liotta, the actor who plays on 24 (I think he's plays the director of the organization), and the actor who played the T-1000 in T2.

Can't wait to watch the rest!

Would it be too much to ask for movies to be released outside the USA before the region 1 DVD hits the stores? I'd settle for that. With Hellboy out on DVD already, people in Europe will just download a rip, crystal clear picture quality and forget all about seeing the movie in the theatres.

From Netflix this week:

All About Eve--every bit as good as I'd heard.

Something's Gotta Give--Much better than I'd heard. Definitely needed a better title, it would have been a bigger hit. Diane Keaton is divine in this, and Nicholson ain't half-bad either.

Some similarities in the two movies: both very smart scripts, great dialogue, and neither took the easy way out.

The Seventh Doctor and Ace travel to 1883, where evolution has gone crazy in a haunted house, a house which Ace has some history with. Can the Doctor save Queen Victoria? And what the hell is in the cellar?

This is a strange adventure, even by Who standards, and you'll need a re-watch to really understand it. It's filled with bizare characters and brilliant bits of wierdness, like the policeman in the drawer and neandathal butler. And all the one liners are worth the price alone. :)

I go for used ("pre-viewed") DVDs through the local Hollywood Video and Blockbuster Video. Typical deals are 3 for $25 or 2 for $20. I'm averaging about $8.50 each on recent releases, most of them not even removed from "New Releases" yet.

I ask for Amaray non-rental cases, without the (removed) plastic sealing bars or tabs, and they've always obliged me by swapping. It also gives me a chance to look for any sizable or profound scratches on the disc before I leave the store. (These have been surprisingly rare.)

All you miss getting this way is any "booklet" or front-cover insert that came with the disc -- but it's rarely informative, very helpful, or over one sheet (two pages) anyway, I've found out. You get the scene-selection menu on nearly every disc itself, in any event. The wraparound cover art is usually enough for me.

Recent used finds:

The Adventures of Pluto Nash*
Big Fish
Chicago
Igby Goes Down
Love Actually
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Something's Gotta Give
Winged Migration

Recent finds (new) under $9.00 at Wal-Mart:

Bull Durham
Funny Face
Galaxy Quest
Independence Day
The Last Starfighter

New but discounted, because I hadda have 'em or they were rare:

My So-Called Life (complete series)
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (director's version)

* Don't you dare laugh. This is the most underrated film of the last few years, and not at all the disaster it was made out to be. If, that is, you like a story about plucky (and hilarious) entrepreneurship on the Moon. Or Eddie Murphy showing some comedy chops, as he's failed to do in recent years.

I just ordered "Equilibrium" yesterday. I found that I couldn't stop renting it so I might as well buy it. The film stars Christian Bale who will be staring in the up comming Batman movie. The movie involves a post world war 3 totalitarian society where people are hopped up on drugs to prevent feelings. Since it is theorized that emotions are what get people into trouble and cause wars, crimes etc...

The film involves speculative science fiction, which I love. The thing I like about movies like this is that I can see it really happening given the right circumstances. Makes you think.

Most recent DVD purchase was the WONDER WOMAN, Season One collection, (on a related note, see "Media Crushes" post) and I've got my target set on the Mork and Mindy collection next.

As well as the recently released IRON GIANT (expanded collection) DVD.

Ah, BUCK ROGERS is also on the way...

DEAD MAN'S HAND

For X-box. I'm a sucker for cowboy stuff. This game got pretty poor reviews, and I've actually enjoyed it quite a lot so far. One scene has you riding a horse, shooting at bandits with a shotgun. That's good fun.

I liked what little I've been able to play of DEAD MAN'S HAND. I enjoy a good shoot 'em up game now and again (particularly the BOND games) and this one was a whole lot of fun IMHO. As you say, something fun in shooting shot-guns, revolvers and arrows in that setting.

Most recently purchased STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT and am awaiting the release of DEAD OR ALIVE ULTIMATE later this month. While I have a few smalle criticisms of Battlefront, it's been a whole lot of fun to play when I've gotten the chance to actually do so. Dang responsibility! (Heh.)

Also anxiously awaiting to get:

- Xenosaga: Episode II
- Star Oceans: Till The End of Time
- Goldeneye: Rogue Agent
- Star Wars Episode III
- And too many others to list no doubt...

I would love a review of the Wonder Woman set. I loved the series when it was on ABC and set in WW II. Of course, I wasn't yet into double digits, age-wise.

Does the series hold up? How many episodes are in the set? How are the extras?

...sorry for being so needy... :)

I would love a review of the Wonder Woman set.

Unfortunately, I've only had the chance to watch the original premiere, and a single episode beyond since I recieved it, but those I definitely enjoyed a great deal. I grew up with the show, as you did, and it was a whole lot of fun watching this again.

And of course, Lynda Carter...and that smile.

I really don't see how you can go wrong with this.

Does the series hold up?

Sure, though I suspect for different reasons from fan to fan. It's full of adventure, and while there are a lot of "hokey" moments, I normally get a smile out of stuff like that so it's not a detriment, to me, as it might be with some.

It was a little more humorous than I remember it being.

How many episodes are in the set?

It's the entire first season, which I believe was 14 episodes + the pilot. There are 3 DVD's.

How are the extras?

So far I've only viewed the first disc, but it was fun to listen to Lynda Carter's commentary throughout the first episode (after I had watched it again all the way through without the commentary on) which is chock full of insight & info.

...sorry for being so needy...

Not a problem.

The SRP is $99.99, Best Buy has it stickered at $79.99. They were running a 15% off promotion, so I got it for $67.99, plus tax.

Even if the sale is over, it's still priced $20 under SRP.

I bought the Xbox version of this last Wednesday and I've really enjoyed it so far.

There aren't enough teams in the game though, especially in terms of International teams (only 38 and no Holland!) but there are 18 different leagues including all the best leagues in Europe such as the Scottish, Belgian and Swiss leagues!

The gameplay is pretty fluid and there are tons of great goals, fast passing play and crunching tackles in every match. (Unless you're rubbish like me!)

I'd recommend buying this game if you're into football (soccer) as it has pretty much all the tournaments, clubs and players you need but there are a few little omissions I would like to see included next time:

J-League
Dutch National Team
Greek League
Turkish League
World Cup
European Championship
ALL the Italian teams
All the major clubs as there are several clubs who compete in Europe who don't feature.

I just got....

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Vol.2- Can any show be this good? It's really good.
Happy Tree Friends- The THIRD STRIKE- Vol.3 of the dvd's collecting the webcartoon. The Flash looks sooo much better on DVD! It's above TV quality. They're so cute!!
But they aren't very well built. Though for the horrible lives they must lead, they sure are chipper! To find out why, check out happytreefriends.com

Gasaraki Vol.4- I got Vol.1-2, 6-8 awhile ago and loved teh show. Now I have 3+4, so I can fill in the blanks I missed. Thoughtful mecha show, though it may be to mystical oriented for some. It tries oh so hard to be artsy, and succeeds a good deal. Good clockwork plot towards the end of the series too, after keeping you out of the loop until the last 7 or so episodes..

I got Half Life 2. It's just the greatest game I've played. I loved the first one and it just blew my mind what you could do in a game and how it just was better than most movies. This one takes it even further. The physics and enviroment and world are just unbliveably real. Then there are the people, they got lip synch and faces that convey emotion with all in game graphics. I'm not running the best graphics card, but it still is amazing. Plus your character isn't some space marine. He's a scientist. He's a theroetical physicist.. witha crowbar. Oh and then he gets a zero point beam emitter (yup, just like Syndrome) and can pick up and throw a ton of stuff. Very cool. Right now I'm in Nova Prospekt. I'm trying to fend off guards and am using hacked turrets to hold an area.
