Ultimate Spider-Man: PS2 Special Edition

I just got: Batman Begins and The Batman vs. Dracula.

Is the Batman vs. Dracula a good DVD? I had been thinking about jumping into the new The Batman cartoon and was wondering if this was a good way to do it.

On an impulse, I picked up: The Batman vs. Dracula and Batman (1989): 2 Disc Edition on DVD last night.

I wasn't going to get The Batman Vs. Dracula DVD because I have heard some discouraging things about the new animated series, but then it came on last night on Cartoon Network and I caught the trail end of it and thorougly enjoyed it, so I wanted to see the first hour and a half, thus buying it.

Batman Begins 2-disc edition- I'm in love with this movie. Also, 2 Best Buys were sold out of this already!

Picked up the new 2-disc Special Editions of Batman and Batman Returns. Didn't buy the other two, because I've retconned them out of my personal existance.

Also got the bare-bones edition of Batman Begins. I haven't seen it yet, and figure if I like it, I'll go buy the super-sized set.

I finally got Spartan. Its like Man on Fire, but (to me) better. If Val Kilmer made this 10 years ago when he was an A list star (wasn't he?) it would have been huge. It doesn't seem to matter how good of a movie he makes its going to do poorly. Its a shame. He deserves a comeback.

If you haven't done it yet, run out and buy the Sin City Recut, Extended, and Unrated two-disc special edition. This film was first released on video months ago, but I purposely waited, knowing that a proper version, complete with special extras and full-length commentary would be available soon. I'm not disappointed. Tons of stuff are included... the whole package is quite impressive.

Film students as well as Frank Miller fans will be instantly smitten with this DVD set. It shows a lot of the concepts that make Sin City unique among films, and it stands as the single most loyal comic book to screen adaptation yet (although it may or may not be the best).

I got the Punisher game for XBOX for Christmas. No in-game map, occasionally frustrating, but mostly it's a blast. I love the horrible things you can do to people with knives, the interrogation system (and the fact that it restores your health), the freak-out mode, and the fact that it's much more faithful to the comics than the movie seems to have been (haven't seen it yet, but the commercials drove me away).

Finally got Far Cry: Instincts (Xbox) for only $15. I had been meaning to buy it since its release but got caught up in more higher profile games like Call of Duty 2, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, and Ultimate Spider-Man.

Once I saw it on sale, I knew I had to get me some of that gaming goodness. I still have to beat Call of Duty 2 and PoP: The Two Thrones first though.

My freaking Xbox finally came back - only took them a month and three days to fix and ship. Not like they didn't tell me 5-8 business days when I first shipped it out....

In any case, I immediately ran out and picked up DoA 4. Fighting games enthusiast, here. Well, it's gorgeous, but I'm still iffy about the engine. They've really weakened throws and counters, which were what made DoA stand out from the scads of other 3d fighting games (in terms of its gameplay - we know what normally people think when they hear 'DoA' and 'Stands Out').

So I'm liking it...but it remains to be seen if I'll say it's better than 3.

I keep meaning to buy some more Askewniverse DVDs. The only one I own is Jay & Silent Bob: Strike Back (Eliza Dushku in tight leather bodysuit= Heaven). I saw Mallrats and Chasing Amy. Both very cool.

I bought a whole bunch of DVDs recently on an "I've just turned 30" inspired nostalgia trip. It's all stuff I knew well when I was young but enjoying it again as an adult (arguably) is even better.

Labyrinth and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid on videa for 50pence each. Both much benefitting from a reviewing having discovered marijuana (especially Labyrinth, phew!!) And the Ghostbusters I & II double disc dvd set is getting a very regular play.

Bought Disney's Hercules on DVD, only for James Wood's Hades, for which I am willing to sit through any amount of appalling musical numbers about 'hero's welcomes' and 'finding where I belong'.

Also bought a copy of the awe inspiring two hour visual battle poem Hero on dvd and , I must admit, got a bit moist eyed when they started their bit about the ideal of ultimate swordsmanship.

can't help it, it comes on tv once in a while and it got to me. i find this funny. dvd came out a while ago and the commentary sucks, basically sandler and 2 writer buddies busting on each other. but this is a good movie.

now, if only they came out with a dvd for, There Goes the Neighborhood, then i would be set with my, odd, box office disasters, but i find funny, movies collection. :)

For X-box. I'm a sucker for cowboy stuff. This game got pretty poor reviews, and I've actually enjoyed it quite a lot so far. One scene has you riding a horse, shooting at bandits with a shotgun. That's good fun.

I actually just picked up Guild Wars, and will be picking up GW: Factions this weekend.

I've never tried a MMORPG before, but this one looks right up my alley.

1. The Assassin class (two knives, critical attacks, shadow-stepping powers, etc).
2. Rather than having choice of race, you get choice of secondary class.
3. Don't stumble over other people when out 'adventuring'.
4. Don't pay a monthly fee.

I'll see how it goes. Maybe I'll get Factions tomorrow....

I recently bought Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. I figure that if I can get it to work on my gaming computer, it ought to be fun for a while. Heck, the original Vampire computer game was fun, too. 5.56mm miniguns work wonders against the undead horrors of medieval Prague and the like.

I've mysteriously drained the DVD budget away buying sequential art, alas. But Transformers The Movie (http://www.transformersthemoviedvd.com/) will be bought on release. :)

At the Wizard World con, my daughter and I got the Magic: The gathering starter sets (which include the online CD-Rom) free.

Some points:

The update files are many. It took nearly 24 hours for my dial-up to download them all. The % done measures the number of files, not the size of the downloads. It literally was at 98% after the first 40 minutes or so....and then the rest of the files took 20+ hours.

There are two rooms I've explored: Training room where you can play prebuilt single color decks (and they are quite effective!). Casual Play where you bring the virtual deck you build with the starter set and booster pack that comes with the game. I find I can finetoon my playing skills with the training deck. Since I'm not inclined to buy or trade cards, I find that my virtual deck gets its butt kicked 2/3 of the time.

A quick note: I had to set an extra "stopping point" (where you can play instants) at the beginning of the opponent's combat phase in order to tap his cards before they attack!

The CD also installs "How to play" Magic tutorial (you play two colors and the computer plays the other three). Alas, the program has memory leaks so it is best to play it only once before leaving the program.
Very addictive game.
