I got a phone call halfway through King Kong that my four year old was sick and had to be picked up.
No one ruin it for me, okay?

You left your cell phone on during the movie?
You disgust me.

If I know Nate, it was on vibrate. He's considerate like that.

Yeah, it was on. Daddy of three trumps movielover.

It was. (side story-a woman behind me had an actual conversation on hers earlier during the film-gggrrrrrrr.)
And a good dad to boot. You go, Nate! Kids over Big Monkey every day of the week.
Thanks, Scott.
Can i just say the first half of Kong is one awesome half-movie.

I look at it philosophically. Would a movie involving a giant Monkey scaling a large buildings and smashing things from time to time in New York be released in the wake of 9/11? And would it be popular?
Moreover, would it be merchandisable?

So if King Kong were to be released in 2001, that would mean the terrorists have won?
This actually popped into my head when I was watching Justice League Unlimited recently. Brainiac had taken over the Lexcorp building, and to stop it Wonder Woman carried the Javelin (the JL's aircraft) and flung it into the building, causing the building to collapse. I'd seen a similar thing in the first arc of the Authority (circa 1999, IIRC) but it was weird seeing it post-9/11. I don't remember any controversy regarding it though.
And dude, giant monkeys. When have giant monkeys ever not been popular?

Well duh!

The Eighties. Why do you think all the popular music was shit then? On sure they weren't cool among the Jim Steinman crowd but Morrissey knew the score!

It would flop only if the giant Monkey was wearing a headscarf and crescent moon flag, was sporting an Osama Bin Laden beard, and screaming "Death to the Satanists!" at the time.
A big monkey flailing around insanely and making a public spectacle of himself? Shoot, that's nothing. We Americans see those all the time. Just look at the Oval Office.

Yep, Nate, I agree: you did good. Kids come first. :)

If you're a good Dad you do. I went with my 19 year old to see if my 10 and 4 year old (who both want to go) should see it. Yes to Nathan. No to Connor. It's too scary for him and the first hour would bore him to death and he'd be climbing the walls.

Kids come first, but I'm hardwired for self.
Fourteen steps backward, fifteen forward. :)

I even previewed Narnia! (Jackson burnt me on LOR for the kids, so I had to be sure.)

Now THAT is a good dad.
And the Vibrate Function is an essential tool of parenting. My cell never gets turned off off. Ever.

I think I FINALLY convinced my mom of that this past year.

Naptime hell, not even during a rare "fun night out for mommy and daddy sicne they haven't had one in months and yes mom the cell will be on just only call in an emergency and no you won't be interrupting and STOP SMIRKING LIKE THAT!"

yeah, hence the angst in my original post. A day at the movies for me is a rare thing, indeed. :(
I'll probably see the second half sometime in 2006.

You know, one would argue that in the case where you've already paid for the movie, BitTorrent might not be such a bad idea...
