Sarah Zapolsky was checking in for a flight to Italy when she discovered that her 9-month-old son's name was on the United States' "no fly" list of suspected terrorists.

I know babies on airplanes can be a pain, but terroism?

Yeah, I'd read about that too this morning. It's absurd and not surprising at all.

But the list has helped in keeping terrorists like the following off flights:
In addition to babies, the victims of mistaken identity on the no-fly list have included aging retirees and public figures such as Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, Republican Rep. Don Young of Alaska and Democratic Rep. John Lewis of Georgia.

Poor poor Peter Johnson. His life has been hell since the day his parents named him.

You know, I do believe if one could harness all the stupid in the government and convert it to gas, we could fuel every car ever made and will ever be made. For all time.

Peter Johnson? Is his middle name Richard?

Could we somehow get all infants banned from planes? I'd fully support this silliness if that happened.

Yes. This is the way to go. Or they could make a new "screaming baby" section of the plane in the belly somewhere near the luggage.

Shit, my brother's name has been on the "no fly" list for over 3 years now, and even though he gets stopped every single time by security, he has not ONCE missed his flight. Never. Nada. Zip.
Go figure, huh?

Well, you've got to stop these terrorist young. After all, we can't have the terrorists bringing their ba-bas and teddy bears on the plane, can we?

Did they think he was hiding a boxcutter in his milk bottle or something?
In any case, they DID end up letting the kid on the flight, right?

If they didn't then I'd like to know why. I mean, all you have to do is talk to security and flash some I.D., and you're basically golden.
Maybe they were cutting it close to their flight time and the delay caused them to miss boarding?
Or maybe it's because the baby couldn't produce satisfactory I.D.

You're right, Dread. After all, that baby could be Osama and the only way we'll know he's not is if he can show the TSA his driver's license.

Considering the Kennedy families problems with things that move, it is probably best not to let them on airplanes.

I don't know if it was an accident or not but not contacing the police until hours after the event is gross negligence if nothing else.

You know, instead of making a list of names that SOUND terrorist-like, maybe they should, I dont know, ACTUALLY HAVE BETTER SECURTIY ON PLANES, AND SEARCH PEOPLES STUFF, AND HAVE SECURITY PEOPLE ON THE FUCKING PLANES.
God, what is wrong with people.

Maybe because there's still a David Nelson who's a security risk? Maybe?

I don't know, does the name "David Nelson" sound terrorist-like to you?
Yes. It's so plain that it's just the sort of name a terrorist would choose.
So, how does your brother like the body-cavity searches when he travels?

I don't know, does the name "David Nelson" sound terrorist-like to you?
Well I dont know the criteria by which they judge these names, so I cant say. Maybe they pick names they think sound made up.
Lord knows if I was a terrorist (I AM NOT CIA WHO IS WATCHING MY EVERY MOVE) then I'd pick something generic and nondescript like David Nelson as my assumed name.

Objection: leading.
Never once gone through a body cavity search.
Once again, and with feeling:
All you have to do is prove that you're not the guy they're looking for. Now sometimes this can take an hour or so, and sometimes it takes 10 or 15 minutes. My brother just works the airport security into his usual airport routine. Instead of showing up a half-hour before boarding, he shows up an hour-and-a-half, and then goes DIRECTLY to the security office.
Doesn't really bother him much either, but "indignant" isn't exactly a trait of his personality.

Maybe because there's still a David Nelson who's a security risk? Maybe? But wouldn't good security narrow it down past a name? I mean, there are ALOT of David Nelsons. And if the David Nelson of Earth 3 tried to get on the plane, why would he even use his real name nowadays if he knew he'd be busted?

...or maybe they have actual intelligence as to what SPECIFIC people they'd be cautious about? Like they're names and such?

I never argued that the list was logical. I'm merely pointing out that in my second-hand anectdotal experience, they're a mere annoyance.

Well they could, I dont know, have pictures next to the names as to prevent them from being mixed up.
I mean, If the David Nelson who is a terrorist KNOWS they wont let him on a plane, then wouldnt he just make a false ID with another name on it and get on the plane regardless?
God, when did our goverment become a bunch of dumbasses? Cause I dont recall getting the memo.

What argument was I trying to say? I made a joke, albeit a morbid one, your the one who acted like I was trying to derail the thread. Never in this thread did I say I was in agreement with the infant being on the no-fly list.
