Is there any tradition in bars anywhere around the world where someone yells "Can!", throws up an empty beer can towards a spinning ceiling fan, and everybody in the joint takes cover?

Buried Alien (The Fastest Post Alive!)Wouldn't that just fuck up the ceiling fan?

Yep. Probably a few heads too.

This is one of those things that sounds good when you are drinking with your buddies, and they are egging you on...but you didn't have the foresight to see that bikers from Hells Angels were at the bar too...and now you just got their new leather jackets wet.

These types of things always end in a fight.

Except the can's empty, he said so.

Most ceiling fans don't go very fast. I would imagine throwing an empty beer can at one might dent the can and send it flying in a random direction, but not very fast and getting hit would hurt no more than if someone just threw an empty can straight at you.

Not very much, in other words.

Any who tried that in a bar would just get laughed at as an idiot.

He said can, not bottle.

Now, throwing a full bottle at a ceiling fan, that would get your ass beat.

Maybe it's a Yankee thing.

It's not a mexican thing either. Most drinkers just crush the can and toss it to the dumpster.

I have never heard of such a thing. Sounds like a good way to get beaten, regardless of the venue.

I've heard of it. I used to hang out with a bunch of people who thought it was hilarious, they didn't really yell "Can!" they just did it randomly, or while playing cards or something...but never at their own houses/apartments.

It really doesn't hurt the fan, or anyone. Even if the fans going really fast all it does is knock the can away and if it hits anyone...it's an empty beercan, aluminum is light, it doesn't hurt. But usually the cans go into the wall and bounce off or slide down it.

I've done it too, but I just like throwing shit in fans.

You ever tried jelly beans at a really fast-moving fan?

I felt like a three year old doing it, but damn if I wasn't enjoying the hell out of myself.

Now that I think of it, pennies are probably actually fun with a fan moving at a good rate.

Rednecks like their beer in cans.

Busch Light, in particular.

the general bar rule is...empty beer cans are for crushing on your forehead to show how tough you are.

empty beer bottles are for crushing over someone else's head, and using the pieces as a weapon to show how tough you are.

being a bouncer was so much fun.

you name it...under 2 pounds, and I've probably thrown it into a fan at one time or another.

the faster the fan the better, though.

Not a Michigan thing. We save our beer cans for throwing at the Lions on TV.

We actually spent three or four years in the '90s with large gatherings of people whipping cans at a plexiglass screen guarded TV. :D

but, think about how much more it means, when the beer can you juat finished, hits the plexiglass screen...it becomes a game of accuracy real quick.

it's called fan shooting...or whatever you want to call it.

I think I'm going to go with howy's conceptual idea that I know all those words, but in that order they don't seem to make much sense.

When I was a kid, a wasp got into my bedroom once and wouldn't leave. I was too much of a wuss to try and go after it with a flyswatter, and I didn't want to stink up the room with spray, so I turned my ceiling fan on high, and after a couple minutes, the dumb thing flew straight into it and got smacked into the wall. Then I squished it with a book.
