What were the respective ages of Peter and Kitty when they began hooking up? Unless I'm mistaken, Kit was BARELY fifteen and Colossus looked 28 or so! (The X-folks do like 'em young, huh?)

19 and 14, I believe. Except they never "hooked up".
Almost, once or twice. And possibly for real after Lilith possessed her, but that was against both of their wills.

Yeah, Colossus was around 19 or so when he first appeared.
And Kitty was 13 1/2. But she was 14 or so before the whole crush thing started.

I was using "hooked up" in the sense of getting together, not GETTING together ;) Ah, the vagaries of slang. ANYWAYS, goddamn Pete's a freak! How the hell does a 19 year old find a14 year old girl even remotely attractive? And when Storm caught them making out, why didn't she drop a dime on Colossus?(Probably because she was busy making it with Cypher..it's some kinky sh*t going on at that school... :) )

Xakko's correct.
Colossus was 18, and Kitty 13 when they first met. When things started to get a little serious, he was 19 and she was 14.
Their ages were stated in the back-up story of X-Men Special Edition #1 (1982).
And no, things were never 'kinky' between them. Peter was attracted to a very mature, very caring person; and while he fell in love with her, and she with him, they never had a physical relationship. Peter acknowledged and respected their age difference, and never took advantage.
Lately though, it's starting to look like Kitty & Peter's lack of a physical relationship might be a thing of the past.... ;)

When I was 15, I knew a 13 year old who everyone thought as 19 (she developed VERY early). But in Kitty's case, she was very mature, and realistically, in Russian culture, of a marriagable age when they were dating.
That said, Piotr was a perfect gentleman about it. He was willing to wait. And five years ain't nothing when they are 25 and 20.

First, Evo Kitty was so, like, a terrible representation, turning the bright geek into a valley girl knock off...
Second, where the heck did the attraction come from? If Kitty is all about the clothes, you would think the disheveled Lance wouldn't be a blip on her radar. Especially when he nearly killed her and her dad in the first episode together. That tends to be a bit of a deal breaker.

So I guess this beggs the question: How old was Kitty when she got with Pete Wisdom (I really liked them as a couple).

Well when that was happening in Excalibur, they never stated Kitty's age, and liked to make it seem like she was much older now, in her mid-twenties or so. As indicated by that issue where it's official that Pete & Kitty are "together," and Excalibur goes to the local pub, it shows Kitty easily drinking alcohol, while Rahne doesn't go for it. Granted this is Scotland, and there is no 21 year old age limit, as I recall, but keep in mind this is the mid-90s when they weren't in the mentality of "only grownups read comics now, kids not so much," so there was an underlying understanding of "adults 21 and over will be drinking, and the young-ins (such as Rahne), not so much." However, this entire Kitty appearing much older thing was given the shaft around "Revolution" time when Claremont indicated that only five years had passed since Kitty meant the X-Men, and that she was only 18. Most try to ignore this, but oh well ... speaking of Excalibur #91, has one of my most favorite scenes where Captain Britain & Nightcrawler confront Pete about his relationship with Kitty...
Wisdom - "What's this? Is there queue?"
Nightcrawler - "Shut up and listen."
Cap. Britain - "It's like this, Wisdom. We believe that, basically, under the unutterably foul exterior, you're halfway decent."
Nightcrawler - "I'll agree to you staying with the team. But if you ever --"
Cap. Britan -" -- EVER --"
Nightcrawler - "--Hurt Kitty--"
Cap. Britan - "--I will, without hesitation, tear off your head."
Nightcrawler - "And I will spend days mocking it and drawing pictures on it before teleporting it into the North Sea."

Kitty was shown to celebrate her 15th birthday during the Excalibur run- #24, I believe. She was no older than 16 when she hooked up with Wisdom, and he was anywhere from his mid to late 20's to early thirties.
So the question is- 14 with a 19 year old who was willing to wait (until editorial mandate broke them apart) or 15-16 with 26 (being generous here) who exposed her sex, drugs (alochol and tobacco, certainly) and no rock & roll (she's such a music fan, too!)

I think Kitty was 16 when she hooked up with Wisdom and in Britain its legal for a 16 year old to have sex with an adult like Wisdom was.

And yet, alas, Herr Wisdom retains his head after being an insensitive git about his girlfriend finding another man attractive. As if he didn't leer at a hot blonde or three while they were dating. You know he did!

Which was Colossus grunting and being silent for 90% of his time onscreen and Kitty assuring Nightcrawler that he wasn't going to hurt her.
Boom-Boom actually showed a more visible interest in him.
But if all you saw of Kitty was a stereotype, then you missed a lot of her character, heck you missed a lot of Lance's too.

I knew Kitty was more than a sterotype, but the fashion-obsessed shell they stuck her in just irritated me.
And I don't think I've missed anything about Lance. The hoodlum who wants to change for the love of a girl? That cliche irritates me more than any in fiction. The only redemption possibility he showed (at least til the last few episodes, which I missed) was because he wanted Kitty to like him. That, to me, is a load of B.S., and pathetic. I take his first appearance as the base for his personality- he was a thug, who would exploit anyone he could to get ahead.
Besides, it ticked me off that they made Scott the schmuck in the episode where he tried to join the X-men...

After reading that I had to go and reread the issue, for nostalgia... :D
The biggest problem with Kitty Pryde is that while her age was never specifically mentioned in Excalibur, after the first third of its original run, she did spend a whole decade our time in that book. During that time, and in particular under Warren Ellis, kitty grew up. By the time the book was finished she was mentally, and physically, a woman in her early 20's. And realistically that is exactley how she should have stayed.
Sadly however, as with Nightcrawler and Colossus, the second they rejoined Uncanny all of the past decades worth of character devepmont were thrown away, ignored, pretended largely that they never happened, and returned to the way they had been ten years earlier, if not more so (Hell, Kurt was swapped from being leader of Excalibur, to a trainee priest. That was awful!).
Right now we're still not 100% where Kitty really is.

There's not much Reed is pedophile meme because it's only been brought up in one or two issues and Reed really didn't even pay attention to Sue while he boarded at her aunt's house. It wasn't until he ran into her after she was in college that he showed any interest in her at all. BTW what the hell does meme mean?

Color me shocked.
Peter clearly says, "I am nearly twenty" in #183, when he is carded for drinks...
So unless time runs backwards, he weren't that old. I believe 18 is the commonly accepted age.
And there were only three years between Issue #24 and Issue #70. Using the sliding scale, that leaves her at... still 15? Maybe 16.
Ellis aged her inappropriately. And also removed many elements of her personality that wouldn't have changed. However, this thread isn't about Kitty and Wisdom, or Evo Kitty and Lance...

Kitty's ages:
Uncanny 138 - 13 1/2 years old.
(45 issues have passed between these 2 issues)
Uncanny 183 - 14 years old.
Excalibur 24 - 15 years old.
Excalibur 70 - 16 years old.

By Uncanny X-Men #183 Kitty was indeed 14 1/2, (and almost 15) because just 13 issues later (in Uncanny #196 I believe) Kitty tells her Columbia classmates that she's 15 yrs. old.

But she was probably lying since in Excalibur during the Cross-Time Caper she celebrates her 15th birthday with Courtney Ross. The issue where Claremont hinted that Courtney was trying to seduce Kitty.
Who cares how old she is? If she's mature enough to risk her life being a superhero, she's mature enough to do it. If she's mature enough to be trusted to with the lives of her teammates, however many innocent bystanders, or even the fate of the earth, then she's mature enough for a roll in the hay.

Here's my rough theory on Kitty's age so far:
Uncanny 129 ---------> Uncanny Ann 4 (13 --------------> 13 1/2).
Uncanny Ann 4 ------------> Uncanny 183 (13 1/2 --------------> 14).
Uncanny 183 ------------> Excalibur 24 (14 -------------> 15).

This is all correct, we're much more sensible in the UK. If you go over to Ireland though the legal drinking age is 21.
Is it actually stated in Excalibur #70 that she's 16? I don't recall this, at all.
The bottom line is that she was always played as some place between 18 and 21/22 in the final third of Excalibur. She was drawn that way, written that way, she had finally grown up.
We cannot be sure of her age at all anymore, thanks to this being retconned upon her return to Uncanny X-Men, it's all been jumbled up due to the worst period of writing in the central X-Books.

The age difference between Peter and Kitty is officially five years. This was established in Special Edition X-Men #1, specifically in a backup story centering around Kitty and Illyana. I site the following dialogue:
Illyana: So, Kitty, are you and my brother--darn, what's that phrase? Got it--an item?
Kitty: Give me a break, he's 19!
Illyana: You're 14, so what?
Kitty officially turned 14 during the Brood arc(#161-#166). We know this because of a narration line during #165("A birthday has passed while she was in space.") just before that much-dissected kiss between her and Peter. Also, during the Special Edition story, Illyana arranged a surprise party for Kitty, recognizing that she had missed her 14th birthday while facing the Brood in space. So we must assume that less than a year passed between the Brood arc and Peter and Kitty's break-up in #183.
Yes, I am a geek, thanks for asking.
Also consider UXM #167, when the X-Men first met the New Mutants. Colossus commented that Cannonball(around 14-15 at the time) was "not much older" than he was when he first joined the X-Men. So Peter was around 14-15 when he first joined the X-Men. This is consistant with the general rule that most mutants manifest their powers around the same time that they hit adolescence. He just looked bigger. Being corn-fed and working long hours on the farm will do that to a boy. Just ask Clark Kent!

Cannonball was listed on a computer screen as 16 in one of the first issues of the New Mutants book, but then he was was listed as 18 a couple of issues later. They went from that age ever since. I was just reading through those issues a couple of days ago, and noticed that.
