Watching it now. Man, is it an awesome flick.

You get 2-discs plus the full 1st graphic novel (The Hard Goodbye, shrunken a bit to fit in the DVD case).

Disc 1 has the original theatrical version, like the previous 1-disc version, plus 2 commentaries and an extra audio track.

Disc 2 has the "Recut and Extended" version, with 23 extra minutes. You can watch each of the segments seperately, so you can jump into your favorite story easily.

Each disc has tons of extras, here are some, but not all:
-"The Long Take: 14 Uninterrupted Minutes of Tarantino's Segment"
-"15 Minute Film School with Robert Rodriguez"
-"How it Went Down: Convincing Frank Miller to Make the Film"
-"The Movie in High-Speed Green Screen - All Green Screen Version"

Plus featurettes on: cars, costumes, effects make-up, props.

Got mine for $30 at Best Buy. Great DVD!

Don't forget the "Cooking School" featurette! I loved when he's talking about getting the tortillas from the fridge that you buy at the grocery store. . .then throwing them in the trash 'cause they're garbage!

I'm pissed they HAD to include the Hard Goodbye GN. That undoubtedly upped the price quite a bit and I already own it. But other than that everything I've watched on it so far is great.

this is actaully one of the few times that i don't mind buying a movie twice, and that i totaly feel like i am getting my money's worth. i thinks its obvious that Robert cares about the fans.

It's only $25. $5 more than the regular edition, and it comes with a second movie, basically.

Well $25 this week, the regular edition was $15 the first week. I saw a bunch of places with a regular price of $35-40.

Like I said, Deep Discount DVD.com, they don't do first week loss leaders.

See, I never bothered buying the first DVD, because I knew there'd be a big special edition one coming out soon afterwards. They couldn't let people sweat it out too long, waiting for a DVD with more special features. I can't wait to watch the "Green Screen" version.

I traded the 1st release in, so I could buy this Special Ed and I still haven't got around to it. Maybe my girl will pick me up a copy for X-mas.

This DVD is awesome. The commentaties are great. The one with Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez is pretty entertaining, and they also have one with Rodriguez alone with Quentin Tarantino and Bruce Willis talking about their parts (I think, I haven't heard that one yet). It really is a great example of what a special edition DVD should be.

Tarantino, sadly, is one of those directors (like Spielberg) who will NOT do commentaries. :(

Yeah, but think about it from Miller's and Dark Horse's point of view. This DVD will sell millions of copies of a graphic novel that's probably sold maybe half a million copies. That's a pretty good promotional tool.

Yeah, although he did do one for True Romance, which isn't too bad.

Some pretty interesting stuff comes out on the commentaries, like Miller mentioning that he never thought ANYONE would be actually naked in the movie, nor expected them to. They're both pretty entertaining.

its funny to listen to interviews with him about making the movie, he seemed so unsure of himself. he didn't think they could pull off such a close adaptation and it be succesfull. Rodrigeuz had to convince him to stick to the comic and not "adapt it for Hollywood".

i cant wait till my copy gets here from DeepDiscount.

He is a writer who will, however. He's got commentaries on True Romance and From Dusk Till Dawn... not to mention joining Jack Hill on the Switchblade Sisters commentary.

The movie plays a lot better in seperate chunks.

I like the theatrical version but I was so worn out by the action and violence that I was pretty numb by the time That Yellow Bastard concluded. I'm glad they released it this way.

IIRC Miller originally thought a Sin City movie should just focus on Marv. Not a bad idea considering that was the strongest of the three stories. At least I thought so.

I agree. I think if they had just focused on Marv, and included the slower pacing of the graphic novel (along with scenes like him flinging himself against the steel door to open it - damn I really wish they had that scene in the movie) it could have made for a bit of a stronger movie. Or even if they had started with the Customer is Always Right, gone to Marv, and finished with a Sin City one-shot, like The Babe Wore Red (which would've brought Dwight in, too), it could've been good.

I guess they couldn't have gotten all those stars though. And I still really liked the movie.

I was dissapointed to dicover the Green Screen version is played at 800% speed, so it's only 12 minutes long. I was under the impressions it was going to be played at normal spped and you could actually watch the whole movie, but it's just played in fast forward. Oh well.

I'm also kind of dissapointed (and this is real nit picky) that the scene at the end of the movie with Josh Hartnett's character and Becky is included in The Customer is Always Right segment of the second disc. I realize there's no perfect place to put it seeing as how it's not part of the books and just created for the film to tie up loose ends, but it doesn't fit with The Customer is Always Right very well. If you're actually watching all of the stories seperately it just doesn't fit. I think it would have been much better left out completely in this new restucturing. Or if they had to include it, tack it on the end of The Big Fat Kill where it at least serves a limited purpose.
