I like the art, but I really don't like Paul Jenkin's writing. The first scene with Magneto seems way too much like the beginning of God Loves, Man Kills. The second scene seems way too much like the opening of Uncanny X-Men 1. The word "tardiness" made it a little obvious. The Danger Room excercise that they're doing seems kind of silly.

but it looks purdy, and that scene with Magneto is one of those cliche's that just ring true and actually work time and time again, because what he's doing is so human.

You see injustice and you want to do something about it... Magneto is the type who CAN do something about it.

Eye for and Eye.

You do the crime, you do the time.

It looks pretty good to me. The art and writing are unique and well done. And of course it seems familar on some level, Fishy. This is supposed to be a book that melds the film canon and the comic canon together on some level. Frankly I think it looks and reads quite fun so far. :)

Looks and reads pretty cool. Not quite sure what the point is though.

Is it canon?

No. It's a non-canon blending of movie and comic canon. It's just a idea of Marvel's to do various non-canon One-Shots that introduce aspects of the Marvel Universe in a fresh way. :)

Hm, I guess that would explain why the timeline seems to place it a lot more recently than I figured the beginning of the X-Men's career would be according to the current time.

What I really liked though was the idea of a training sequence based on historical military battles.

Ah man, I was hoping this would be some unholy blend of X-men and Lovecraft. Disappointment, thy name is this comic.

Mike Carey could pull that off.

GAH! "The City of Good Neighbors" gets slammed here. Ugh. Ah well, bound to happen I suppose.

Reminds me of Children of the Atom, but I love the Danger Room bit... way cool.

Cool, so these were the 60's of the Xmen?

Pretty big preview. Love the art. Definitly liking the dialogue...Old school days.

This is worth it even for just the art.

I love the way Paul Jenkins just channels Stan in Xavier's mannerisms and hard ass personality back then and the original X-Men's naivete. Everything looks huge and sophisticated such as the Danger Room, the mansion and the little details are amazing such as the puddles of water Iceman leaves behind and Cyclops optic effects.

It's not really a series, just a One-Shot.

It is part of the 'Mythos' series. The series non canon is supposed to appeal to new readers and movie fans. It cover other marvel universe characters in future issues, eg Spiderman Mythos (i dont know if they will actually do a spiderman one its just an example).
