View Full Version : WWE RAW Review: " Who Will Be RAW GM ? "
SUPERECWFAN1

Last week I missed an awesome show with Edge pissin off Micheal Hayes and Shelton's heel turn starting slow. This week I'm back with a cable connection and my ability to talk WWE.
So heres the RAW Review:
The Good: Vince comes out and details why and how he fired Eric Bischoff. He runs off several candidates which has Stephanie gettin booed the most. Shane supriseingly gets a pop. I predict Paul Heyman....you have Styles at ringside and having Styles sell that his old ECW boss is now in charge of RAW would be freakin AWESOME. Also watchin Heyman incorporate more hardcore into RAW would be funny.
WWE starts the show off with Kurt Angle facing Ric Flair for the right to fight in the 6 man Elimination Chamber. Angle's out to prove something and Ric's...well Ric's had a hell of a week.
Ric holds his own for as long as possible and even starts workin over Angle's leg. But Kurt pulls out the medals and scores. Then Kurt starts cutting another classic promo where he stats that since no one views him as a Hero , why should he compete for the Troops ?
Kurt's in a rare heel mood as he has Daveri looking at destroying the Bobby Orr and Larry Bird displays. John Cena steps in and slaps the piss outta Daveri and cuts a solid promo against Kurt and to sell his " You Can't See Me " paints the camera lens black as he finishes.
Meanwhile backstage Shelton still angry and pissed tells Micheals he hopes to god they meet in the Cage. That he's gonna send a very bad message to Carlito. This sounds freakin bad ass. Shelton's lookin like he's gonna start to be a heel bad ass.
Whooops....how wrong was I ? Shelton who looks strong through the whole match with Carlito decideds to play with an apple. He loses in a comedic way at the end making you wonder....how ? Do they purposely wanna choke this heel turn or is it they can't really know how to do a Samoa Joe heel right now ?
Backstage we see Trevor Murdoch ( natural redneck...) walk up to Vinnie Mac and sell himself as the next RAW GM. This is freakin hilarous as Vince is grossed out. Then we see ...mmm Candace Michelle sellin herself as RAW GM. The facial actions of Vince sells it. You almost wanna kill Kurt here. Vince decides to recreate Wrestlemania V here and make Jake the Snake vs Rick Martel for a new generation.
Ric gets a verbal slap down backstage by Edge who brings up his current legal problems. Flair goes to take Edge down to which the funny Copeland replies: " Hey now...do you really need to have another assault on your record ? "
HBK comes out and the Big Show is in rare form. Seems Smackdown is so depleted that Show and Kane have to work that PPV now. Match ends when HHH uses his brains and to aviod facing Big Show after weeks of buildup , DQ's him. Lettin HBK go into the cage.
On stage we see Matt Striker who is doing a rip on his old past and Dean Douglas. Striker has the verbal chops and talks about family values. Now how long before he gets fed to someone and they do nothing with him ?
Backstage Chris Nowinski ( Ohhh crap he still works ?) sells himself as the 1st Harvard Graduate to be RAW GM. Vince goes crazy when Dusty Rhodes walks in and ...a shudder passes thru me as Vince sells the American Dream as RAW GM. Thats just a f-cking nightmare.
Whats even more silly is the fact Vince is sellin this guy after dressin him in polka dots 15 years ago.
They decide to push a Mickey James/Trish Stratus Title Match finally. Its about freakin time I suppose.
WWE in a great moment and pretty much validating my feelings on Scott Stapp use his new song/album to promote the show with the troops. Yep...thats bein sold.
Kane vs HHH was funny as HHH couldn't cleary destroy Kane. It must hurt HHH's feelings as Big Show decided payback was due.
The John Cena blindfolded match was freakin hysterical. I loved how Cena did the Jake Roberts spot and point to where he could be. It was a funny match and fans were happy.
Time ends as Cena gets the win and runs Kurt Angle off. Next week the search continues and hopefully someone smart in the company names Paul Heyman as RAW GM and have him get Dreamer as his enforcer and we could see some funny ECW/RAW moments.
The Bad: Chris Masters comes out and well...there goes that prayer. Its gettin so bad that even the fans turn against the match before it starts by chanting " Boring ". You'd think by the 6 month period you'd change up Masters charactor some.
But Johnny Ace is hell bent on gettin this guy on TV and over in some way. But its not worked. No one is caring and its funny. I think Masters isn't our version of Lex Luger. He's the twisted WWE version of Tank Abbott where they shoved him at us for months on end in WCW.
Smackdown Rebound. I loved some of the Taker/Orton segments but the mirror one and the annoucer having Taker's voice was a step..beyond mind games into silly. Yes...Taker wants revenge and his signature match is Hell In A Cell. But its just going into SILLY with some of this.
OVERALL: ***1/2 Outta 5. The wrestling was good but makes ya scratch your head. Other than Angle/Cena/HBK inside the Cage were forced to watch 2 rookies and Kane as well. Its gonna be a hard sell to fans who are gonna be relunctant to plunk down cash to see this.
Also the Shelton Benjimen heel turn ? If he's gonna be a heel bad ass....shouldn't he f-ckin win a match or is that too smart to do ?

Enjoyed the show.
Nice promo by Cena, and I was glad he acknowladged the boos he's been getting.
Good matches all around, and the 'You Can't See Me' match was so Roberts-Martel I loved it.

*The whole Benjamin thing is going in the direction that he's making poor decisions with his new attitude and it's costing him matches now. That's the new story until Shelton finally snaps and does something to Michaels. Trust me..Shelton and Michaels are gonna have some kind of interaction at Royal Rumble this year in Miami and I wouldn't be surprised if Shelton tosses Michaels out and turns heel in the process. It's just a slow heel turn process that's being built on losing like Eddie's was. Shelton telling Michaels he better get the job done because he can't wait to see him in the Cage leaves fans wanting more.
*Mickie James and Trish going at it is gonna be a nice sight too. I love Mickie and her perkiness. Should be fun.
*The "Boring" chants return for Chris Masters again. I'm not surprised. Even the dead Boston crowd couldn't take that horrible match.
*Angle cut a classic heel promo. Too bad it went against his character and that it was done to get Cena over as face because of the recent boos.
*Cena/Diavari blindfold match? Not the type of match that should end a Boston Raw.
*Matt Striker got the best heel heat tonight after Angle. We'll see what becomes of him by Rumble time.
*Cena vs Masters vs Carlito vs Michaels vs Kane vs Angle? Does that sound like a main event to you or what? I'll pass on this one and check out the Royal Rumble in Rocky country. Nice Raw though...7/10...great promos from Striker/Benjamin/Angle and Mickie James is moving along fine

It's even worse than suspected..they went ahead and put the unover Chris Masters in a title match at New Year's Revolution. Once again..Chris Masters is GETTING A TITLE SHOT on PPV?! That's HORRIBLE, folks. And just one reason why even with the progress with Raw the last two weeks, it's still not better than Smackdown. Sorry.

Unlike Eddie , Shelton's charactor has been so uneven to fans its a hard sell. If your gonna have him cut hard heelish promo's and swear things are gonna change..you had better move your ass and do it. Not try the Eddie Guerrero booking where Guerrero was an over enough guy with fans to swing a slow heelish turn.
*Mickie James and Trish going at it is gonna be a nice sight too. I love Mickie and her perkiness. Should be fun.

You can only ask fans to take so much. It gets to the point where fans won't take it and this is what ya saw. Elsewhere Ace saw Masters gettin a great heel response I'm sure and were destined to months of Masters gettin a bigger push.
*Angle cut a classic heel promo. Too bad it went against his character and that it was done to get Cena over as face because of the recent boos.
How did it go against his charactor ? He's still Kurt Angle and believes he's a Hero. Its just that for weeks Kurt has gotten angry at fans who think he sucks. In his promo he said the soldiers didn't deserve to see him like the fans don't.
*Cena/Diavari blindfold match? Not the type of match that should end a Boston Raw.
It was funny. I'll give it that.

Good news on Shelton Benjamin's big push:
It's been reported that WWE has put out a casting call in Hollywood CA. for a "large black woman" to play Shelton's on-air mother for the next three to six months.
Can't wait to see how deep Shelton's buried---errr, I mean how high Shelton's star rises after these exciting developments... :(

I see whare this is going for HHH. I was in denial at first but now I accept it HHH will win the Royal Rumble and win the heavyweight title at Wrestlemania.
I like Kurt but I was actualy rooting for Ric Flair to win the match so that he could be in the Elimination Chamber. Kinda like WWE's way of giving Flair one last run at the main event.
His feud with Edge should be pretty good.
If Matt Striker is copying off of the Dean Douglas gimmick then I hope he doesn't have that horrible entrance music when he debuts.

I liked the show overall, but how the hell am I supposed to take a Chris Masters vs. Viscera match seriously as a qualifying match for the main event of a PPV? It was like watching the Royal Rumble, and seeing the Hurricane or Val Venis come out. You know who isn't getting that main event slot at Wrestlemania. I will admit some secret hope that Viscera would take the match. Now is the right time for a huge push for a 500 lb love machine monster. Big Vis for World Champ!
Also, I thought it was incredibly lame that Tajiri was nowhere to be found tonight. Guy's last show with the company, and he can't even be the one to get squashed by Chris Masters? Ouch. I'm curious to see if they gave him a Heat match, or if they just completely blew him off.
But, like I said, I did enjoy the show overall. Just two gripes that I had...

I dont know why everbody keeps calling Chris Masters "Lex Luger light", but that aint the case.
1. Luger could, when he wanted to, put on a pretty decent match. Hey, he didnt always sleep walk through everything.
2. He was decent on the mic.
Chris Masters....isnt. Theyre billing him entirely as having a great body. And it couldve worked....in the past. But now lots of guys have a body like him. Past that, he has no personality, no mic skills, and if he can put on a good match, Ive yet to see it. Plus, hes been in exactly zero interesting feuds.
He needs to really step up his workrate and mic skills, or he's just gonna get more "boring" chants. He has a pretty good old-school type gimmick here, but Superstar Billy Graham he aint. He isnt even a Scott Steiner at this point.

I think you said it yourself , he doesn't exactly have been in a lot of interesting feuds. As far as personality and mic skills , i think he is not too bad , he's better than at least half of the TNA roster.
Did NOBODY see Dusty on Unlimited?! God, that was hilarious! Vince kept getting cut off by Da Dweem, if you wheeeel.
I have to admit though the way they have it set up this is one of the WEAKEST Elimination Chamber matches I have ever seen,...What am I talking about look who's in it compared to who's been in it in the past.

That was after Steve Austin walked out and the fact that they were building to a RAW vs Smackdown Survivor Series pretty much. Thats why Batista and Rey Mysterio/Matt Hardy were put on the Taboo Tuesday PPV.
Unlike Smackdown the next PPV has Mysterio teaming up with Batista vs Kane/Big Show in the main event. Its pretty much like saying: " Our roster is really thin and we don't have anything for Dave Batista to do til Orton gets thru with Taker."

Eddie was the most over guy in the WWE since Austin/Rock's heyday. There is no comparing Shelton to Eddie. It's just the format that they are using to solidify Shelton's heel turn by Royal Rumble.
Chris Masters? This guy is a piece of trash. I'm tired of hearing this excuse that he's gonna get better and that he's "decent" in the ring. I have seen NO evidence of this and I have yet to see a two star match with Masters except the one Michaels carried at Unforgiven. Give me Renee Dupree and his over "French Phenom" gimmick over the joke known as the "Masterpiece" anyday of the week. Hopefully, when RVD returns next month, they have Masters get squashed by RVD in his return match to Raw in under two minutes. I would LOVE to see that.
Angle's character is also about "Intensity, intelligence, and integrity". He lacked the integrity part in his barrage to get heel heat so Cena can get some solid cheers for once. Doesn't matter anyway. I still see Angle getting cheered at New Year's Revolution with more boos on the way for Cena, sadly.

Odds are they could have booked around that. You also if your gonna protect Batista , don't book him against the biggest guys on the roster. He'll be in there a few minutes and still work.
With Taker/Orton busy and Benoit tied up with Booker T they have few options.
Ken Kennedy is out. Edge is out and Christian was let go. They really have to do this til Orton works his program with Taker.

The TNA Impact Special that aired at 10pm Thursday pulled a 0.8 rating. Some will say its a great rating for a tough Thursday night shedule and that TNA is a new show developing. Others won't .
Former WWE Jobber Johnny K-9 has pretty much fallen from grace. K-9 is once again in legal trouble after breaking 6 of his conditions for bail on charges of a double murder last year. He is also now being charged with extortion.

then later on we can clone big show and call him LARGE PROGRAM. and hed be 15 feet tall and breath fire. and then have him go over everyone again to give him cred. then have big show beat him by giving him a super plex that breaks the ring and sends him to hell

No clue......TNA really has went along with Hardy as far as they could. He's missed flights and hasn't looked at all good. Its a fact a lot of us used to rag on in the TNA Boards.
Hardy Main Evented TNA's 1st PPV and he drifted up n down. Its just with Sting and Christian coming in , his value dropped . The fact he would no show and claim he missed flights didn't help his cause.

Someone has to overlook Johnny Ace's hard on for Masters and get the guy back to OVW.

Dusty would be a GREAT Gemeral Manager for Raw. It'd be nice for once to see someone in a GM/Commisioner character role that doesn't come off as a dead fish with obviously rehearsed lines. Dusty can do that. He's one of the best promo men in the history. With very little wrestling ability, he managed to sell out arenas all over the world on his mic work alone.
And as for the polka-dot years, I'm sure McMahon has a grudging respect for Dusty. no matter how much McMahon tried to make Dusty look like a fool (ploka-dots, the butcher skits, the plumber skits, Sapphire) he still got insane over with the WWF fans.
In fact, Dusty can get over anywhere. The ECW workrate smarts crapped their pants with joy when Stardust popped up in the fed.
That being said... there is only one choice for the Raw GM role:
MICHAEL HAYES!!!! think about it. The "you kids are spoiled" will get him going as a baby, but he could just as easily become a heel GM with the same line of reasoning.
And if they aren't careful, Stryker will be turned babyface by the fans... his comments got quite a few cheers from the audience. Crybaby Douglas never did "yo mama" jokes. :D

btw edge sux, he can only get heat one way after all these years.

That's what I was wondering. I do not want Dusty to be GM.
Phony Bone, I'd like to see Micheal Hayes make a run as GM as well. He's just a wrassler who's been there and done that, and could be face or heel depending on which wrassler he was interacting with. He could really sell it that he's just there to put on the best show possible, and teach these young guys how it's done. Great idea.

Very very unlikely since Heyman is doing well in OVW and nearing the end of his contract. WWE have already offered him a new contract though he has yet to sign it.
Rumors are that Bischoff will appear on camera again and become a manager and manage some rookie now that he's no longer a GM like what Heyman had done with Brock.

No that was WWE Creative that did that bo bo. Paul was asked to be his mouthpiece. It took months....and months....and months of work to get Brock over enough. Heyman who really doesn't like an on-screen role talked them into letting Lesnar go alone once he finally got over.
Its funny but looking back only Steve Austin, HHH and Rob Van Dam weren't made into Brock Lesnar jobbers. RVD proved to be way too popular to job clean. Austin walked and HHH was on RAW so all 3 avoided clean jobs to him lol.

Gotta understand more people were hot for RVD and pretty much booed the WWE outta the ring for bookin Rob to lose. The anger stayed and the company faced 2 problems. The fans wouldn't accept Lesnar going clean over Van Dam.

Only NY at Summerslam. The ONLY heat Lesnar got to that point in 2002 was not his one his one month deal with RVD..it was feuding with the Rock. It was the Rock who got Lesnar over and had fans chanting "Lesnar SUCKS" on all the Raws leading to Summerslam. Hell, on the Raw before Summerslam during HHH's promo, he ran down Michaels..fans didn't respond. He brought up Lesnar and the entire crowd booed big time. Not to mention they booed HHH out of the building as he ran down the Rock during his promo against Michaels.

Rock tried to cut a face promo after that match but the crowd had turned on him. He then reverted to his heel mannerisms and cut a promo similar to when he was the corporate heel champ.
The next night at Raw he was at the arena but ended up not showing up on camera - although at one point he was scheduled to do a promo - because he and Vince figured the crowd would boo him again and there was no sense in sending him out for that. Keep in mind, most everyone going into that match knew Rock was had just come in for a short title run before he went off to make more movies. The New York audience especially isn't kind to that sort of thing -- ask Lesnar and Goldberg -- and they turned on him. JR tried to ignore it at first in commentary but by the end had to concede that the audience was obviously cheering for whomever they wanted, rather than boo'ing Lesnar as they had thought would happen.
