I read once that Scott Free renounced his New God powers! Why on earth did he do that, and what were those powers?

His godly powers were his heritage as the son of Highfather. But he renounced (most of) them because he identifies more with humanity than the Gods. What power he has left, he NEVER uses.

But what WERE those powers?

Generic cosmic powers, really. He didn't exactly have them very long. I think he gave them to the Wizard Shazam.

Probably the most intriguing power Scott Free has is the knowledge of the Anti-Life Equation, which he has used only once and mourns for on the anniversary of its use. It's a great ironic twist knowing that the spirit of freedom has the power of ultimate control and was raised under the eyes of the tyrant constantly searching for it. It also explains how only he was able to lead the Anti-Life controlling Orion into the Doom Tube directed towards the abyssmal plane in Orion when even Darkseid and Metron had fallen under Orion's total control.
