While it's a Green Lantern cover, this thread's purpose was to talk about Adam's art. I wish it hadn't been moved.
Please delete or whatever. Unsubscribing, now.

I think that GL tenticle porn is in bad taste.

Neal Adams is my favorite comic book artist of all time.
I really wish he got more work. When's the last time he actually worked on a book, not just covers?

Last one I recall was Mr. T and the T Force...

To answer the question...
I don't like it. It's just too sketchy and I can't tell what's going on.

Wow...that's sad.
That guy is so talented. I want him doing the art for All Star Superman.

He did that 8-page story in GIANT SIZED X-MEN #3 a few months back (written by Joss Whedon), subbing for Dave Cockrum.

It's not really a question of Adams not getting more work. I'm pretty sure Neal could have just about any assignment he wanted, he's just pretty selective in what he chooses (and yes, he sure makes some odd choices).
There have been rumors of him working on Batman project with Frank Miller over the past year or so, though nothing's been confirmed.
That Green Lantern cover is pretty sweet.

I like GL and GA okay, but I can't tell what the tentacled-thing is at all. Kinda vague.

They look like that thing that Mongul hit Superman with in "For the Man who has Everything" by Moore and Gibbons. Either that or the Itty things that lurked on GL's shoulder during the Grell run.
I dunno about GL/GA though. Their facial expressions look....wierd.
Edit for: bad typing!

I think the facial expressions are just harking back to Adam's classic run back in the day.

I'd attribute the 'weirdness' to the fact that they've got those Mongul-gifts on 'em... they're trying to fight 'em off, but the things can create the fantasy of a perfect life for them, and that happiness is why they're smiling. I think I'm explaining it poorly... they're euphoric, and are fighting it off at the same time because they know it's false.
Overall, I like it.

Great cover. Adams is one of the legends of the industry, and it's great to see him back on GL, even if it's just for covers.
Those monsters definitely look like the Mongul plant, and since he's appearing in this arc, i'd say that's definitely what they are.

Awesome Cover, The man still draws better than 99% of artists working at DC and Marvel today.

If that's the case, the cover is still kinda weird. The things aren't attached yet. So either they should be attached, and GL/GA look happy, or if they aren't attached, then GL/GA should be mad and fighting them.

Wow, so the first GL/GA team-up since their resurrections will be a "For The Man Who Has Everything" style story? That's a great idea.
Five bucks says Hal's perfect life involves punching people and lots and lots of women....with tentactles. That Hal is one swingin' cat.
And Ollie's will no doubt have him smoking a lot of pot and acting like a dirty hippie!
By the way, I'm glad they're finally updating Adams classic GA costume for One Year Later. That design was wicked for its time, but it needed to be merged with Grell's very cool, but a little too earthy, Longbow Hunters design. The mixture captures the swashbuckling coolness of Adams' duds with Grell's grim n' gritty badassery. And dumping the undies was a looooong time coming.
GREEN LANTERN & GREEN ARROW together again.... without underwear outside their pants!

These days, there's more than 1 percent and Joe Kubert who draw better than Adams... There are plenty. Adams is definitely way past his prime. I like his art, but don't think his All-Star Superman cover was that great. I bought that issue for its resale value and not for the cover, though.
And why doesn't Adams do more books? Have you seen Giant-Size X-Men 3? It was terrible. His art isn't what it used to be. But, what artist his age is still drawing at his peak? Answer: 99 percent of them ain't what they used to be.
Adams is still a fine artist, but not the artist of old.
His Continuity stuff was borderline good, but nothing spectacular. Heck, there were so many artists there drawing in the Adams style that you never knew if you were getting real Adams or not.
Try getting a commission from Adams and see how many of your children you'll have to sell to afford one...
But, Adams does still sell books, so I guess it's profitable for DC to have him draw covers, even if they're drawn as badly as the Green Lantern cover (which I'll be buying for its trade value).

Mikey... I think you better lay off the crack.
The GS X-Men wasn't that fantastic because Adams wasn't suppose to draw it... Dave Corkum was but he got sick and Adams stepped in at the very last minute. Adams was only suppose to do the cover. It looks rushed because it WAS rushed.
His Continuity stuff suffered because he was trying to do too much. Read Mystic... one of the earlier titles. It was awesome. I'll grant ya that All Star Superman cover wasn't so hot (sorry Neal)... but that GL cover is pretty sweet. Unlike most artists today Adams has a knack for proportion, muscles and anatomy. I'd take a mediocre Adams book over a "hot" artist of today anyday. Not that guys like Hitch or Cassaday aren't fantastic... but there's something appealing about a legend doing the art chores.

I agree that Adams is better than a lot of today's artists. He is an illustrator raised on more than comics whereas today's artists are raised solely on comics.
But, I still don't think Adams does great work anymore. Just because a story is rushed and Adams was a fill-in artist doesn't give him an excuse to do bad work. We expect more of Neal. I think the GL cover is in that same category, where it's not his best work. I did like the cover he did for Captain Marvel over at Marvel a couple years ago when they were trying to boost sales.
I thought Continuity's stuff was bad Neal Adams. Really, you couldn't tell who was doing the art. I look at pages and see Adams, then look at the credits and find out its Mike Netzer or Sal Velluto or any number of artists who do good work now that they're not expected to ape Neal.
I love Adams art. It's some of the best ever. But, like I said before, he's past his prime. His stuff is still better than most artists drawing today, but there are other artists whose art is better than his is — at this stage of his career.

If I gave you 1 month to draw a comic (regardless of your artistic talent! I'm being hypothetical here) would you be able to do a better job on it than if I only gave you a week?

Well, I think the question is more appropriately if you gave Neal Adams and, say, Jim Lee the same story and gave them both a week to produce it, whose end product would be most aethetically pleasing? Especially leaving out any reference or allowance for age or history in the medium?
