The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe took in $67.064 million dollars in it's debut weekend to capture the top spot at the box office.
The new George Clooney film Syriana came in a distant second with $12.030 million.
Third place went to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire with $10.315 million. It's made $244,119,000 so far.
04. Walk The Line $5.750 million ($77,003,000)
05. Yours, Mine and Ours $5.150 million ($40,917,000)
06. Aeon Flux $4.625 million ($20,282,000)
07. Just Friends $3.9 million ($26,464,000)
08. Pride And Prejudice $2.491 million ($26,385,000)
09. Chicken Little $2.256 million ($127,230,000)
10. Rent $2.0 million ($26,912,000)
NOTES:
I saw The Chronicles of Narnia today. It's an excellent film and I'll definitely pick it up on DVD. It's got a little bit of everything in it. The thing that was weird for me is that it's been so long that since I've read the book, I could barely remember much of the plot. So watching the movie was almost like learning things all over again.
I've seen Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire as well. It's a very good film too.
I want to see Walk The Line, Aeon Flux, and Rent but they are most likely going to be DVD rentals for me.
I plan to buy Pride and Prejudice when it comes out on DVD thanks to the appearance of Jena Malone in the film.

I took the boys to Narnia. It was good. I'm a little surprised by Syriana. I've never heard of it. It's not playing locally.

I'll see Narina next week. Maybe buy the books if the film turn out to be good.
GOF is a DVD buy no doubt.
I'll rent Walk The Line. Aeon Flux looks too Tomb Raiderish for me to spend my money on.

Never doubt the effect a great childerns film will have at X-Mas time. I'm sure Disney is looking at this success and Chicken Little & are happy.
The new George Clooney film Syriana came in a distant second with $12.030 million.
This is how powerful a Box Office Draw , George Clooney is. George can put out a movie that gets little to no press and make it pull in 12 million. Thats POWER. If I was Marvel and I'm serious about a Nick Fury film I get Clooney ASAP.
Third place went to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire with $10.315 million. It's made $244,119,000 so far.
Sure looks like Harry Potter will become one of the biggest Film Franchises in history doesn't it ?
04. Walk The Line $5.750 million ($77,003,000)
People are plunkin down thier CASH period.
05. Yours, Mine and Ours $5.150 million ($40,917,000)
Still don't know what the hell this is.
06. Aeon Flux $4.625 million ($20,282,000)
Wrong time to put this out. You don't launch an unknown action film to the masses at X-Mas time. No matter how many Oscars Theron has.
07. Just Friends $3.9 million ($26,464,000)
Saw Ryan Reynolds in Van Wilder. He can sell a comedy. Why ABC let this guy go and not try and keep him is thier mistake.
08. Pride And Prejudice $2.491 million ($26,385,000)
Most likely will fall off the map next week.
09. Chicken Little $2.256 million ($127,230,000)
I wierdly expect with more kids draggin thier parents to watch X-mas flicks this one will stick by December 25th.
10. Rent $2.0 million ($26,912,000)
Will more than likely lose out next week as KONG arrives.

Watch the old cartoon. Thats what I plan to do before I rent and watch the DVD of Narnia.

When X-Mas comes Harry Potter would make twice as much as it's making right now. Not so much since its competing against Narina but it will still make good enough cash.

Holy cow. I was just looking at the link for how everything else was doing....
Brokeback mountain and Memoirs of a Geisha are only showing in 5 & 8 theatures.
Why so few? But with only being shown in that few of a threatures Brokeback still made 545,00 and Geisha made 674,000.
Still WTF? Only that many compaired to the 3,728 that are showing Harry Potter.

They're in limited release. Later on, both movies will hit wide distribution. Once serious oscar talk starts to hit the airwaves, look for the number of theaters to increase even after that.

I loved The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, as well as Goblet of Fire and Walk the Line.
I saw and enjoyed Yours, Mine and Ours and Just Friends. I also saw Aeon Flux and thought it was okay.
Not interested in the others.

Narnia was a great adaptation in my opinion. HP was waaaay to long a book for one movie and it suffers because of it. Still better than the crap that was the third installment though.

Go Narnia, it was great!
Loved that and Harry Potter and quite liked Rent.
Can't wait for Brokeback Mountain and maybe Geisha (love Zhang Ziyi/Ziyi Zhang).
Probably see Aeon Flux and Pride & Prejudice on DVD. Maybe Walk The Line and Syriana too.
The thing that bugs me about Syriana is the way they hype it as if the only way to learn about the issues is to see the movie. That always seems pompous to me.

I'm going to see Narnia next Saturday.

"Syriana" has been getting quite a bit of press. Clooney's been on a promotional blitz on the TV talk shows and the prerelease reviews were overwhelmingly positive. That said, it is a "small" movie opening in limited release, so $12 mill is a good number. But I think it has less to do with Clooney's "star power" than it has to do with the fact that it's an extremely well-reviewed adult movie that deals with a topic people have a major interest in. It's a very timely release.

I think I've read that Clooney mostly cameos in Syriana. How big exactly is his role?

I haven't seen it, but the impression I get from reviews and profiles is that he has a meaningful role. However, the structure of the movie appears to be very similar to films like "Traffic" or "Crash" in that it's an ensemble piece with crosscutting storylines, in which no single character is the focal point.
