ESPN awhile back gambled on creating a show for Sports guy Steven Smith. The NBA reporter who uses the " Quite Frankly..." line when he's discussing a subject.

It didn't take long before cracks started to form. USA Today this past summer reported that the ESPN2 show pulls ...gets this...an O.O2 Rating. This is after ESPN ran ads saying Smith was a star and his show was mega popular.

So I decided to watch a show. Smith would irk me because unlike Chris Berman,Sterling Sharpe and a few others he acts like he's THE STAR when talking on ESPN. When he gave thoughts on Terrell Owens he'd talk real dramatic & long winded and make you think Owens was gonna be completely wrecked by not playing this season and collect welfare.

But onto his show.

It was a decent show. But Smith sits down with greats like Jim Brown and Emmitt Smith and pulls the usual ( I'm the STAR) and asks long winded dramatic questions. Jim Brown and Emmitt would answer and I enjoyed watching them and how they feel about todays NFL.

Smith would answer questions at the end that was it. I think I know why this show is failing. Theres nothing there. This show could be folded into Cold Pizza and save time. Its hard to really get todays "crash TV" sports fans to tune in for a long while to see 2 guys sittin a chair 30 minutes.

Plus Smith's attitude at times doesn't help. Its almost a turn off to a lot of people. Its the " I'm a Sports Reporter so I KNOW and YOU DON'T" attitude. Odds are ESPN will keep trying it to make Steven Smith a star like they did for thier other ESPN guys.

My feelings on the show are pretty much the same. I don't mind Smith when he'd be one of the anaylists doing NBA post-game or on Sportscenter, but he's not likeable enough to carry 22 minutes by himself.
