It's so... red.

It's ok.

Or is there some plot thingy I'm missing that I'm supposed to go OOOOOH at? There probably is.

Bruce Wayne Jr.

Hmm

It's... edgier? (Is that a word?) Maybe the character's getting darker...?

He looks like a boy in desperate need of a bran muffin.

reminds me of the Robin outfit from the revamp of the Batman animated series.

Quite a change indeed...

The cape also appears to be green...

Looks like it's getting a little more Batman-y. I like it.

This seems to strongly indicate/confirm? that Tim Drake will be in the costume OYL which is a-okay with me. :)

I'm curious as to who the guy behind him holding the big knife is.

Looks like Renegade to me. Anyway, I was expecting a more drastic change, but this is cool and yeah it looks a lot like the TAS version.

I'm glad to see that DCAU Tim Blake is being brought into the main DC universe.

umm...Well for all the hype that was anti-climactic. Red tights ad jagged cape? I was hoping for a more drastic costume change that showed how Tim is evolving the Robin persona into new territory...this sucks!

(also I could be wrong but that shadow behind Tim has pointing long ears and looks eerily familiar to BATGIRL!)

Looks pretty cool to me, I like the jagged cape look.

Ah, didn't notice the ears. And yeah I was hoping they would get rid of the underwear over pants thing.

I haven't read the books in awhile. Not to long after Chuck Dixon left actually. So who's Renegade?

Thanks

His gloves are different too. They have the jagged edges like Batman.

As for the red, maybe it's like Azbat's suit that seemed to turn red the angrier he got.

I loved the look of the animated universe's Tim Drake, so I give this the thumbs up. Would've preferred a black cape and trunks though, as all the red-and-green makes Tim look like he's dressing for the holidays.

(Yes, I know that last sentence would've made more sense if I just said "Christmas." But I like to think I'm doing my part to piss off Bill O'Reilly.)

I'm curious as to who the guy behind him holding the big knife is.Betcha that turns out to be part of the new costume. One Year Later: the Superheroes All Get Wacky and Impractical Backpacks.

Would've preferred a black cape and trunks though, as all the red-and-green makes Tim look like he's dressing for the holidays. My impression was that they are black, and that the overall greenish tinge of the cover just makes it seem otherwise.

The redesign is...hmm. While I think taking away the green removes one of the more "iconic" elements of the Robin costume, and the "R" seems to have lost its cool style and shuriken-ness, I can get over those things. The cape, however - eek. I get that it's probably supposed to be evoking bird feathers, but that's just not pretty. And to quote someone on lj, the gauntlets look like he broke the spikes off his toy stegosaurus and glued them to his gloves. Still, I'll wait to see a few more shots before I judge.

Betcha that turns out to be part of the new costume. One Year Later: the Superheroes All Get Wacky and Impractical Backpacks. This would be the greatest storyline in history. Especially if Booster Gold got to have zombie Beetle riding around on his back.

All I know is that McDaniel is not doing art for that cover, so I'm guessing he's gone off that title. I might go as well.

As for ch-ch-ch-changes? Meh. I'll judge them when I see it. Might not be Tim. I'm guessing that mgiht be that Batwoman behind him.

Does it strike anyone else as weird that the new writer is playing up 'we can't tell you who is in the costume' and now this? Oh look, Tim Drake. So much for the suspense. Unless they are setting us up and I kind of think they are.

It's okay but Robin with those leg muscles shouldn't have such a kiddy face. I do like the all red thing. Very....dark-like

Not too happy with the design, myself. Too red and the pointy cape and gloves seem out of place.

Such a grood line...

Anywho, anyone else get the feeling that Batwoman is attacking him from behind - but oh, wait, it's one of those typical covers that isn't an accurate portrayal of the inside material?

I'll probably give it a try. Especially if that turns out to be Batwoman, which they roped me into trying based on concept alone (easy-to-market-to malephoenix that I am).

I like it, he looks more......intense in it. And while I haven't been reading comics but for six months now, are you sure thats Tim Drake?

Uh.. It looks kind of lame. But i'm glad it's Tim. And we all know it's just a matter of time before it changes again.

The new artist has been announced as Karl Kerschl. I'm sure he'll be fine, but I really liked McDaniel's version (which was hardly even given a chance, IMO). I haven't heard what McDaniel's next project will be, but I'm sure he's DC exclusive.

I really don't care for the new costume and don't see any reason for a change. Way too much red.

Looking at it closer does anyone see bat ears on the shadow?

I kind of wonder if its metaphorical or symbolilc in some way. I mean it looks to skinny to be Bruce Wayne Batman and I don't think its Batgirl. I kind of wonder if its a possibly Tim from a possible future. Not literally or anything just figureratively.

Basically they're trying to symbolize that the road Tim is heading down could lead to the death of his "youth and innocence" for lack of a better word. Not that the death of his father and girlfriend so close together didn't already damage those things a lot.

Just speculating...

If he does get darker I'm hoping the year gap is where he was dark and this is him trying to get out from the dark Batman shadow with a knife aimed at him.

That art makes my eyes bleed.

The legs definitely did not match the upper body.

Too much red. The jagged cape.

I'm a lil old fashioned regarding Nightwing and Robin's suits.

The arc is so bad that it is funny.

Bat-writers sure do love changing the characters costumes don't they?

This new costume is just an effort to make the Robin image more dark and
mature. But the color combination is still the same. the flavor of being a sidekick and a young turk is still there because of it.

And everytime i look at Robin's garb it just wont stand alone without the Batman suit and cowl beside it.

Maybe its just me. but that's the easy i see it.

Guts/Batman

But why do we need a change in costume to show this?

And I think making Robin a dark character is a mistake.

Also, since when does comic Robin have red pants?

Well, it didn't take long for that update. :)

He's going to be drawing Green Arrow OYL.

After looking at this, I'm not. I liked Nightwing's costume he had before he got the red one he has now. It look much better and I don't like Robin's new costume either, nor the art too. They both suck.

As a note the new costume as drawn in the upcoming OYL Teen Titans (below) is actually kinda nifty looking. We'll have to see how it's done in the actual pages before we pass complete judgement on it, eh?

Edit: Also I'd like to note that if Geoff Johns hadn't been trying to make Superboy into a quarterback for the last two plus years I'd almost suspect SB is replacing Robin from that picture. As is I just assume he's leaping forward REALLY HARD. :)

I dunno why everyone thinks the new costume makes Robin look "dark." How dark can a costume be if its designed to make him look more like a bird? They gave him FEATHERS.

Besides, how can DC "turn" Robin dark when he's already been pretty dark the past year? You know, with the murdered father and girlfriend and everything.

Connor as Robin is kind of a cool idea, though.

It can be done...

Robin (and specifically Tim) was created to counteract the darkness in Bruce that kept him from going too far inside. To stop the process of his de-humanization.

Making Robin (Tim specifically) not fill that role is (and has been) a mistake on DC's part, I think.

I gotta admit, the art that Forsaken posted makes it much, much easier to take. The first one...is just...horrible...eyes bleeding horrible.
