I've always liked the X-men. Watched the cartoon when i was little, got some comics here and there (loved Madureira at the time), but when i'd try collecting an X-book seriously it would be way too confusing, Magneto was a good guy with long hair named Joseph?? Shiar?? Bishop bald??? Xaivier gone??
Anyway I tried picking up Uncanny X-men a month or two ago and it was just ridiculous psylocke was doing some crazy shyt, panels didnt even seem to be in any way connected i felt like i was reading "The Maxx" but not as good. I dont even think i want to try to understand what is going on there.
I recently read the first astonishing X-men trade and it was actually coherent and pretty cool (abit too much like an episode of Buffy to be GREAT).
Anyway, what I'm getting at is: what stories/TPB's should i read? Are there any titles currently that are good for newbies? astonishing has stopped right?
Thanks.

Agreed. This is the easiest way to hot the high points of X-men history without breaking your wallet.

It's sadly lacking a Beast though. *Shakes a fist at Bendis*.

Ehh personally I never liked Mark Millar's take on the team. It seemed like it was trying too hard to be cool and Edgy.
Anyone else remember that Episode of Daria where the Magazine publisher Val was following her around? It reminded me of that.
Stick with the Uncanny X-Men Essential X-Men that reprints Giant Size X-Men #1, Uncanny X-Men #94-2??. Chris Claremont is the bedrock foundation which others have built upon...

Why not? People die. It happens.
And I agree with the folks saying to get Ultimate X-Men. (ESPECIALLY with Kirkman about to do a couple arcs.) You. Are. Not. Ready.
