She was pissed that her father had taken up with Emma Frost so soon after Jean's death, plus she wanted to honor her mother's spirit, so she changed her name.

Where was this hinted or shown? Or is this yet another "what I WANT" so I'll spread as rumor/fact scenario?

I said may. Read the words carefully. Where did I say it was fact?

notice the slash, fact/rumor. There has to be some basis. And no where has it been hinted.

The title of the arc and the premise suggests what DDM said.

The premise is wiping out the Grey gene, not the Grey name. Has nothing to do with her name. If we were to take the premise and title literally than she would either have her portions of genes wiped out or get killed or wiped off the face of existence. Because a name change isn't what this story is about.
She could be named Jean clone #2 and she'd still have Grey genes.

If anything with entire the Grey family dead, then Rachel's very unlikely to drop the Grey surname.

I'm simply asking a question. You said that the "End of Greys" arc is suppose to wipe out the Grey gene. I'm thinking that this arc was suppose to wipeout the Grey bloodline, or anyone with the Grey in their name. So tell me what is this Grey gene? Is it like the X gene? Got any special porperties? All I want is an answer.

It seems that the Grey gene is possibly a good indication that that person can manifest the Phoenix. Those crazy Shi'ar. They seem to know everything about the Phoenix.

I think they just mean it in terms of genetics. Rachael has Jean's genes. Jean is a Grey so it's like the genes that a mother passes to her children. Not necessarily special, just hereditary.

The Shi'ar may have plotted Jean Grey's genome given she saved the universe as Phoenix in Uncanny X-Men #107-108 & sought out the M'Krann Crystal in to destroy the universe in Uncanny X-Men #135 as Dark Phoenix. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept an eye on everyone related to Phoenix--including Rachel Summers. Lilandra was snatched out of her body (along with the rest of the Starjammers) by Phoenix II in Uncanny X-Men #203 when she sought out Xavier in deep space in order to kill the Beyonder...
However, I believe Lilandra is off her rocker since Cassandra Nova masqueraded in Xavier's body. Deathbird is sane by comparison.

I hope she goes back to being called Rachel Summers.
Or Rachel Grey-Summers.
