When it moved to Kids' WB from Fox, the Batman animated series got a substantial design overhaul in its' fourth season.

It took a little while to get used to, but I really did grow to like the whole change in style. The characters just flowed through the fight scenes; it looked impressive.

I hope you're all enjoying the new box set. Which new character designs did you like most? Which did you not like?

Among my favorites are the new, bulky Batman, and Nightwing's costume is just excellent. The Scarecrow was now physically scary, and of course The Penguin was right at home in his new skin. Catwoman got cuter, too. :D

My only gripes are with Killer Croc and Baby Doll, but their characters were pretty much gutted as well. I also thought Ra's and Talia didn't benefit much from the change.

I really liked Batman's new design and I like the Batmobile as well. The Scarecrow also looked more scary but the TAS version was, of course, closer to the comic design.

I agree that Baby Doll and Killer Croc suffered but I also didn't like the new Catwoman design as much.

Man, I forgot all about the vehicles. That Batmobile is my favorite of them all, comics included. The Batplane was sweet as hell too; why didn't they make a plastic version?! Heh, even Nightwing's bike was cool.

The Scarecrow redesign was the best. The guy was physically scary. He could kill someone with his very presense. That's how the Scarecow should look

I loved the redesign. And the fact that Batman's costume was now BLACK and gray instead of BLUE and gray. I've never liked the blue/gray thing.

And some of the redesigns were a lot better than the old ones. Scarecrow, the second Joker redesign, Croc was ok, Bane's was a little better. I don't think Ra's changed much. I didn't like the Penguin's all that much. The original was better.

I felt like the show had a cheaper look to it after the redesigns.

Why doesn't Conroy do his voice anymore?

Didn't he still do his voice for Justice League and Justice League Unlimited?

You're probably referring to The Batman, which is a seperate show and production team.

No I'm talking about JLU.

EDIT: The episodes of it that I have seen sounded NOTHING like him. And I didn't notice his name in the credits, either.

My mistake. It's Kevin Conroy. (http://www.tv.com/justice-league-unlimited/show/3914/cast.html)

Maybe Bruce just hadn't gotten used to so much social interaction? :D

I guess.

Sorry. I was almost sure it wasn't him. Do you think he sounds a fair bit different from the original Batman: TAS? I am still astonished it's him...I'm watching an episode of JLU right now.

Batman in JLU still sounds the same to me. But Conroy's been doing the same character for what, 12 years now? So I wouldn't be surprised if his voice/acting has changed slightly in that time.

For the most part, I liked the redesign of the Batman universe. I disliked the fact that they took away the white part of Joker's eyes, as the "no pupils" look is too cartoony for a homicidal clown (hey, it's Li'l Orphan Annie!). And I hated that Catwoman's skin inexplicably got bleached whenever she put her costume on. Someone who worked on that show must've had a serious "women with pasty white skin" fetish.

Thousands of people were with you on the Joker thing. But really, Animated Joker's had three different designs. The first TAS one, then the one you're talking about, and then the third one. Which was my favorite.

I didn't like the middle one either.

I can honestly say I did not care for the Riddler's new look. I loved that old BTAS look with the hat and suit and tie. The newer look - with bald head and bodyfit jumpsuit - were a real step back.

Plus he had virtually no play at all - in fact, I think the only time we heard him (thank goodness it was still John Glover doing his voice!) was in that ep where Superman impersonated Batman because Bruce was missing, and even then it was a bit role.

Like several others here, I enjoyed the Scarecrow's new look (and voice - Jeffrey Combs!).

Penguin looked much better, finally shedding that Batman Returns vibe.

Didn't like the Joker at first but it really grew on me by the end.

Never could understand why Catwoman's face in the suit was pale white but her look without it was with normal skin.

I never liked Killer Croc's old look and preferred his newer one....but I disliked that Baby Doll episode and did miss his old voice.

Mad Hatter looked much creepier, and rightfully so.

Halfway thru Vol. 4 myself so I'm sure I'm forgetting a few....
