Hello all. :)

OK, so I've been on a prison movie kick for a while now, after watching a program on television about Pelican Bay. Over the past few weeks I've watched: The Shawshank Redemption (love it); Escape from Alcatraz (love it); Mean Dog Blues (kinda like it; I find it a bit silly at times); Cool Hand Luke (love it!); Midnight Express (like it a lot); and The Great Escape (like it).

I've also watched A Clockwork Orange (which I love and I've seen like 50 times), Misery (like it), and The Silence of the Lambs (like it). Not really prison movies, but they do deal with the subject of being imprisoned in interesting ways.

So anyway - anybody got any recommendations on what I should watch next?

What are some good prison flicks?

A few come to mind. Birdman of Alcatraz. The Green Mile. I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang. The Defiant Ones isn't exatly prison but is about a chain gang escape.

Stalag 17 is probably one of the best prison movies of all times. It takes place in a Nazi camp during WWII. Most likely, it's the inspiration for Hogan's Heroes, but it's not a comedy. I can't even count the number of times I've seen it, but I'll stop and watch it if I ever see it on.

Very funny Remember the opening scene the boys standing in front of a hardware store have all the fixing to brew their own beer during probition.
"Oliver and what we don't drink we will sell!"

a truck drives in front of them and the next sceen the truck drives in the oposite dirction and they are now standing in front of prision chained to a cop!"

Oliver, why did you try to sell trhat bottle of beer to that policeman?"

Stan,"I thought he was a streetcar conducter!"

many adventures happen, a proposed hunger strike, a escape were they are tracked by the prison blood hounds. The boys end up on a plantation in black face with the blood hounds as their pets. the wardens car breaks down, but stans tricky and nosey tooth gives them away.

back to prision there is a riot, stan shoots the place up by acident using a thompson sub machine gun. Are pardoned for ending the riot. warden,"Boys as you start your new life let me know i can do anything for you?"

Stan,"How many bottles can we put you down for!?

The other movie is far diffrent and based on a real man, Paul Muni in I AM A FUGITIVE FROM A CHAIN GANG! This was a very harsh and gritty movie, it still is today!

I vote for Reform School Girls !

Really. . . starring Karen Black, and Wendy O Williams (of the Plasmatics).

Wendy O spends most of the film running around in just a leather bra -- too bad her face isn't much to look at. .but for a "women in prison" flick, it's quite fun.

For women prison movies there's nothing like Chained Heat (or is that Caged Heat, can't remember which).
