So, as you can see by the title, I just finished Loeb and Sale's Daredevil: Yellow. This is the first Daredevil book I have ever read, and I was VERY pleasantly surprised.
However, there are one or two questions I have...
1.) What happened to Karen? The whole story revolves around Matt Murdock writing these letters to Karen, his secretary, about how much he loves her. And he says she is dead, but it never tells what happened to her.
2.) Is this fairly in-keeping with Daredevil's origin story? As I said, this is the first Daredevil book I've ever read. I never realized that he originally wore yellow because he made his costume out of his dead father's robe.
Anyways, as I said, this was just a wonderful book. I have never been particularly interested in the Daredevil character, but I loved this. It is easily one of the best books I have read in a long time.

What happened to Karen? She got into porn, drugs during Miller's run contracted AIDS and then got a billy club stuck in her chest by Bullseye during Smith's run.
And the origin is more or less accurate, but fleshed out.

OK, Miller's run is collected in the "Man Without Fear" TPB, right?
Is Smith's run collected in any volume(s)?
PS Thanks for answering my questions :)

Smith's run is collected in Guardian Devil
Miller's run is collected in a number of different trades including three volumes of Daredevil Visionaries.

Isn't there also that "The Man Without Fear" trade by Frank Miller? Or is that a different story?

Man Without Fear is a movie-script adapted to a graphic novel changed into a limited series. It basically goes over Daredevil's origin again, incorporating Elektra and Stick this time. It was originally out of continuity, but it has been shoved into continuity through Typhoid Mary's origin IIRC.

I think so. I like John Romita Jr's style for this a lot and he really spent a lot more time on this than on his usual assignments.

Do you like Batman: Year One?
Think that, but with Daredevil.
Oh, and it's better.
So yeah, you should definitely read it.

You just made David Mazzuchelli cry a little.

It was the first Daredevil story I ever read and I wasn't disappointed. The way Matt's letter to Karen moved the story was beautifully written and sentimental in the best way possible.
About a year later I found out (through a message board) what happened to Karen and I was kind of disappointed with how her character turned out, making my impression of Daredevil:Yellow even more depressing.

I'll send him a letter of apology.
...along with a copy of the book, so he can see how much harder it actually rocks.
(By the way, how long are you gonna hold onto that avatar? Everytime you post I think you're Bib). :D

Not totally sure, but it looks like blackbolt from the inhumans. also i loved DD:Y too, and I hate the Daredevil character. Try reading Spiderman: Blue and Hulk: Gray. Not as good, but still good old fashioned superhero comics.

Awesome. I added both to my Watch List on eBay.
Is this like some sort of series Loeb and Sale are doing? Like, superhero colours or something? Are there going to be more?
Awesome AV by the way. I don't care what people say...RoboCop owns.

If you want to dig deeper in to the DD character, I cant think of a better site site:

Indeed, RoboCop does own. I just wish everybody else thought so. Oh and yes Loeb and Sale did do a few of these series, called "Marvel spectrum" or something. They were gonna do some more I think, but Hulk: Gray was a pretty big bomb. If you ask me, their Dc stuff is better anyway.

Yes I loved all of their Batman work. And I am probably in the minority in saying that I liked Dark Victory better than The Long Halloween.
I think it'd be really cool if they were to continue the Marvel Spectrum. I could see really cool series' about X-Men (and/or the individual members), and I bet they could do some great stuff with perhaps a "Punisher: Black".

This reminds me, has DD: Man Without Fear been collected in a HC edition similar to the recent excellent HC of Batman: Year One? I hope to see something like that along with a cool coloring remastering at some point but I kinda doubt Marvel would put that much effort into it.

It hasn't happened.
Marvel did put out a nice volume of Miller's Spider-Man work, and a composite volume of ELEKTRA: ASSASSIN and DAREDEVIL: LOVE & WAR. Not to mention the BEST OF WOLVERINE hardcover. So it's not out of the question.
