Lets say the following historic people are brought to out time and stays for 5 years-
The Founding Fathers
Confucius
Laozi
Aristrotle
Socrates
Plato
Abraham Lincoln
Albert Eisntein
Martin Luthor King Jr.
Karl Marx
Thomas Hobbes
Ghandi
Queen Victoria
Assuming that disease or shock doesnt kill them while there here, what would they say? What would they think of our society, and the state of the world at large? Would they praise us, or would they think that humanity is at a state collapse? Add more people if you'd like.

Aristotle, Confuscious, and Lao Tzu would be way too freaked out to say anything.

Queen Victoria would not be amused. Einstein would wonder if God was playing dice with the world. Lincoln would complain that government of the people, by the people, for the people, had perished from the earth.

Lincoln: "Wow...beyond my wildest dreams..."
Then he'd throw up.

The Founding Fathers - would protest the modern American political system, and lead a rebellion against The Man.
Confucius - would don a cool set of Jedi robes, and beg Einstein for a real, working lightsaber
Aristrotle - would be blown away by modern Western civ, and by Christianity
Socrates - same as Aristotle
Plato - same as Socrates and Aristotle
Abraham Lincoln - would be assasinated
Albert Eisntein - would be a video game addict, and would create a real, working lightsaber
Martin Luthor King Jr. - would be outraged at the horrible state of the urban black community today
Karl Marx - would go into deep depression when he saw how communism has so miserably failed
Queen Victoria -would nearly die of shock as soon as she saw how women dress today; would hook up with Einstein

I seriously doubt that these three gentlemen would be "blown away" by either of these two things. Western civilization isn't the shining bastion of all things great and wonderful that you seem to think, and they'd most likely find the majority of our religions hilarious. Especially once they'd seen more than 5 minutes of TV evangelism.

Given the importance of these men in philosophy in general, and Greek philosophy in particular, and that the Greeks heavily influenced Western civilization, would you not think they'd be awed at how far reaching their influence is? It's not present just in the Greek states, or in Macedonia, but in a significant portion of the world.

Aristotle represents for most of us an icon of difficult or abstruse philosophical thinking; to know Aristotle often provokes hushed whispers even from highly educated people. For all this reputation, though, Aristotle is actually quite an easy read, for the man thought with an incredible clarity and wrote with a superhuman precision. It really is not possible to talk about Western culture (or modern, global culture) without coming to terms with this often difficult and often inspiring philosopher who didn't get along with his famous teacher, Plato
Also, given the fact that Aristotle was a mentor of Alexander, who in some ways changed the world, don't you think these individuals would be "blown away" by how long and far their influence has been?
Furthermore, I never said the West was a "shining bastion of all things great and wonderful". Whether it is or isn't is not the point, but simply that I never said or implied it.
I do, however, believe that Christianity is in fact the "shining bastion of all things great and wonderful". These men lived before Christ came, and if any one man has changed the world, it was Christ. Try to imagine your own before and after (as I did when writing that post), first when you lived in the fourth century BC, and then suddenly finding yourself in today's world, twenty centuries after Christ walked the earth. "Blown away" seemed a pretty fair description, to me.
And when you speak of televagelists, I'm going to assume by your negative tone that you have in mind the slimy types, like Jim Baker, Benny Hin, and their like. In that case, yes, one would and should have a negative first impression of Christians, when witnessing their shenanigans. What you don't seem to understand is that such "Christians" are only Christian in label, not in fact, given their deeds. Real Christians and real Christianity is VERY different.
