View Full Version : A slight apology....

This is about the Corries as a whole. I really wanted to take part in them this year and had it marked down. Of course that was before my net access screwed up and my comp went down. So I'm using a library computer at times.
I really wanted to take part and take my time nominating each poster and comic related vote. But with time shrinking I couldn't do it. Instead of just screwing up and plunkin any name down and not caring I decided against voting.
I really didn't have the time to really go thru and pick the people who deserved the Corries. I'm sorry about. I hope no one thinks I didn't care. Its just that with lack of time online I wanted the votes to matter.
Thanks...

I'm curious: why the apology? To my knowledge, less than 1% of the total poster population here participated. I can understand your own dissapointment at not being able to participate, but I can hardly believe other folks would fault your absence.

Didn't know. I always thought the Corries got a great turnout. I'm also dissapointed because I really wanted to vote on the comics this year. Damn....

Well, it may have been more than 1%, but it had to have been under 10%.
We have 13.5k members, right? Maybe a third of those are active. So that's 4.5k. I don't recall seeing 400+ people voting in any of the awards(then again, I didn't do any voting myself, so my attention to it was minimal).

We should start a Vote Or Die campaign next year to get people voting! We can have various comic celebrities make ads about the importance of Corrie voting, and how much difference your one vote can make. T-shirts, billboards, magazine spreads, it'll be huge!
I think I'd rather have a bunch of registered active participants in some of the forums than a bunch of sheep just showing up to vote for the corries, then disappearing again till next year.

Yeah, but automatically toss out any poster with under, oh, let's say 50 posts, because that probably means that either they don't really post here that often, or they haven't been posting long enough to really know the boards that well.

Then again, regardless of the amount who participate, why should anyone feel pressured to vote? It's just meant for fun, right?
I can understand why Superecwfan would feel a personal need to apologize, but I want to make certain that the only one giving him a reason to feel guilty is himself. It would not be a good thing if members of the community made him feel so.
Meh, I'm probably taking the whole topic too seriously.

Instead of focusing so much on post counts, maybe "start dates" would be a better determinant.
Some people do a ton of lurking for one reason or another. That doesn't mean they don't know the community members well enough to vote.

Well I can see his point. The Corries are traditionally important to SuperE. He has a lot of fun with them. And thus adds to the fun for the rest of us. Look at his sig. So he in particular was conspicuously absent. Which doesn't mean he owes anyone an apology, of course, but I understand his clarifying it.

You know, for once I actually agree with that idea. Believe it or not, some of the nominees were pimping on other boards to get ppl to to sign up to vote here. There may not be any ethical problems involved, but it does seem tacky.

Well and wasn't there a controversy two years ago with some small press or web comic getting their fans to create id's specifically to vote for them in the comics section?
Hmm, I'd never heard about it. What happened?

Supe,
I didn't win the "Poster That You Would Most Like to Get Drunk With" but I was up against some serious competition. I don't know who you would have voted for and I doubt that your vote would have swung the decision in my way, but if you want, we can get drunk together.

If I ever get up to Penn State I'll take ya up on it. Odds are I'll struggle to handle beer. I've wierdly lost my taste for it but hell..I'm game. ;)
