Ok, after watching that horrible episode of "Scariest Places on Earth" that featured the Lake Shawnee haunted amusement park, I became curious about other abandoned parks. I started looking around online, and haven't found ANY pictures of teh Lake Shawnee park. But I did find some other parks that piqued my interest...

Here is my favorite so far, Chippewa Lake Park:

And a creepy old park in Japan:

Mountain Park in MA:

The abandoned amusement park in Chernobyl (after the nuclear incident):

Crapo Park...the name says it all (hee hee hee):

So anyone else fascinated with these creepy old relics? My boyfriend is too scared to even look at all the pictures with me....sigh, he is so cowardly at times!

Here is a huge listing of abandoned amusement parks in the U.S. Too bad Indiana doesn't have any with pictures!

Thoughts? Yes, I know I am crazy...

I've been to an adandoned amusement park years ago, it was lovely. We just saw it while driving by so me and my cousin asked if we could pull over and check it out. There was a collapsed rollercoaster and all the rides looked like King Kong snacked on them. There were still rolls of tickets in the entrance booth, for some reason that really stands out to me. We wanted to try and sit in one of a carts on an old whirly gig type of ride (we were like 12) but my aunt drew the line there. Very ghostly feeling with chilly weather, I doubt I'll ever forget that day.

It's kind of weird that they'd just abandon something like that and just leave all that machinary. Then again I've seen so many abandoned farms and houses between the midwest and southwest that I guess you can walk away from anything.

I grew up going to Mountain Park. I hadn't thought of the place in years. Thanks for the cool links.

If there were no abandoned amusement parks, where would the Joker hide out?

This was such a cool post! Strangely I didn't feel creepy looking at it at all.

It seemed more nostalgic, imagining what it would have been like in its prime, to see the ferris wheels turning, people laughing, screaming as the rollercoasters roared past. Stalls bustling with candy, balloons, popcorn and fairy floss.

I actually enjoyed rummaging through these posts.

One more fun link, with a few more parks and more pix of Chippewa Lake Park:

When I was really young (about 5 or 6 years old....around 1985-1986) I remember riding in the car as my parents drove along the interstate into Fort Wayne (Indiana). There was an old abandoned nursery rhyme-themed miniature golf course that you could see from the interstate. There was a large Mother Goose, the Shoe (the old woman and her kids who lived in it), and a few other big structures. They were barely visible surrounded by weeds and trees, but I remember something was just creepy about it. It's not there anymore, and the land is now a railroad-tie making company.

I don't think they look creepy, but the Chippewa Falls pictures make me kind of sad.

Roller Coasters shouldn't be left to rot like that.

I'm in, because they'll probably get away with it if we and our dog don't meddle!
