I never read xfactor or xforce, so I guess generation x would be my choice. Although not all of the issues.

Of all time? The original New Mutants.

Currently? Probably New X-Men.

Of all time, Excalibur vol 1 in a squeaker over New Mutants and PAD's X-Factor.

Currently... Cable & Deadpool, but open to change with the advent of New Excalibur (doubtful) and X-Factor (probable)

X-Force Cable did his thing. He was like a young rebel magneto when he lead the kids.

I think this might be a good thread to ask this -

Is this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0785118888/104-5371711-6023932?v=glance) a good purchase?

The only non-core X-men story I remember reading was a Marc Silvestri pencilled Wolverine story, where Logan beat the crap outta some monkey brain drug manufactures - great fun!

I *love* Excalibur volume 1, but then, it had during its run 4 of my top 5 X-men ever in it. If I didn't have these already, I would buy it. I still might.

Original New Mutants rocked. The original Excalibur did to. PAD's X-Factor is my all-time fave.

1. Excalibur vol. 1 under Claremont and/or Alan Davis, and during the Ellis years.

2. New Mutants vol. 1 under Claremont.

3. X-Factor under PAD.

4. X-Factor under Louise and Walt Simonson.

Exiles 1-25 by Judd Winick first, then Peter David's X-factor run second. These are the two greastest runs that are non-X-men to me.

New Mutants (Claremont issues), no question. PAD's X-Factor a very close second, followed by early Excalibur and Exiles.

All Time:

1. New Mutants (Chris Claremont)
2. X-Factor (Peter David)
3. Generation X (Chris Bachalo and Scott Lobdell)
4. X-Force/X-Statix (Peter Milligan and Mike Allred)
5. Excalibur (Chris Claremont and Alan Davis)

I can pretty much change the order of those last three any day of the week.

Currently:

Nightcrawler (which is cancelled next issue) :(

Ditto! :D

My guesses on the 4 x-men:
Colossus, Shadowcat (based on avatar).
Nightcrawler.
Phoenix III.
