My choices would be

Bruce Timm
Alex Toth
Alex Ross - some non super hero work.
Mignola
Moebius
Frank Quitely
Dave Gibbons
John Cassaday
James Jean
Scott Morse
Tony Moore
Joe Kubert
Sam Keith

Also anyone know who the next artists are?

Those are all good choices, I'd kill for a Sam Keith one.

How 'bout a Frank Miller solo?

Or that guy who did a fill in for Green Arrow some months back....um, Messner Smith?(Sorry, can;t remember the name off hand. ANy Help? I know he has a charity sketchbook/artbook coming out.)

already lined up Mike Allred, Brian Bolland, John Cassaday, Darwyn Cooke, Richard Corben, Dave Gibbons, Scott Hampton, Adam Hughes, J.G. Jones, Kevin Nowlan, Paul Pope, Tim Sale, Bill Sienkiewicz, Walter Simonson, Jill Thompson, Brian Stelfreeze, Bruce Timm, John Van Fleet, and Matt Wagner for "Solo."

Assuming this is still accurate (the article is from back in 2002), looks like Timm, Cassaday and Gibbons are already in the mix somewhere down the line. Heckuva nice list in any case.

Messner Loebs? I think he only writes (or I only know him for his writing), and Solo is for pencillers.

Anyway, I would love to see a Solo from any of the artists working in Seven Soldiers right now.

My mistake....yeah I thought he was also an artist. I was going through previews and they have a charity sketch book being sold to help him out.

Bill is an artist as well as a writer. He wrote and drew a comic called 'Journey' a number of years ago about a mountain man, Wolverine McAlistaire. This was in the early 1980's I believe.

He's already doing an issue of solo,
"already lined up Mike Allred, Brian Bolland, John Cassaday, Darwyn Cooke, Richard Corben, Dave Gibbons, Scott Hampton, Adam Hughes, J.G. Jones, Kevin Nowlan, Paul Pope, Tim Sale, Bill Sienkiewicz, Walter Simonson, Jill Thompson, Brian Stelfreeze, Bruce Timm, John Van Fleet, and Matt Wagner for "Solo."

Any idea when it's coming out? It may be two years from now with the rate these things are coming.

Bill Sienkiewicz would be great

Ariel Olivetti would rock, but he's probably not a big enough draw.

A Cliff Chiang SOLO would be amazing. His Human Target and Catwoman work was amazing!

An Ed McGuinness SOLO would also be a fanboy dream come true and would be an enormous seller.

The SOLO I want to see the most, however would be Doug Mahnke. This guy pencils the best modern Batman since Neal Adams. I would love to see a Batman spotlight, some more JLA pencils, and maybe a return to Major Bummer in his issue.

Can't wait for Walt Simonson- I believe it's coming up in the first half of next year. (I think it was mentioned at a recent con report).

I'd love to see Frank Miller have a go. Kevin Maguire, Denys Cowan, David Mazuchelli would be fun. Could they lure Ramona Fradon or Steve Ditko out of retirement?

All great suggestions, but how about Eddie Campbell, Bryan Talbot, Marc Hempel, Peter Gross, and Tim Truman?

yeah Eddie Campbell would be a great choice.

Any reason why these aren't coming out every month?

I just think it gives the artists longer to work on them, so they are a higher quality.

They're also relatively expensive. Every month might be a bit of a stretch.

It doesn't really when each artist only does one issue. All they'd need to do is get more artists working on it sooner. Maybe the thinking is that they want to make sure they don't run out of artists who are both willing and good enough to carry the book.

Solo is pretty much the only comic I buy anymore, mostly trades for me, so 5 bucks a month isn't a big deal. Anyone know if Dc is planning a trade?

also kyle baker and jamie hewlett

Walt Simonson - whose name was in that original list long before the series saw light - apparently is gonna start working on his issue after he finishs ELRIC.

Back when, it was rumored that Frank Miller would be doing something (probably a script) in his issue as well, but dunno if that's still on or not...

Also, IIRC there aren't really any ads in these right? That takes a lot of money out of the picture - which means you've gotta be impressed that DC's still doing the series.

Frank Quitely and John Cassidey are the only two artists I can see buying solo for, other than Allred, which was great.
