View Full Version : X-Crescence VIII: Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Brian Cronin

Welcome to X-Crescence, which is from the word excrescence, which is defined as "An outgrowth or enlargement, especially an abnormal one, such as a wart."
Well, this is an outgrowth from the X-Boards proper.
This is where you pretty much can post whatever you want.
Almost anything goes here.
You can have arguments here, you can talk nonsense here, you can insult someone, you can use profanity, can talk about any topic that you would like.
Essentially, you'd have to do something pretty damn bad before I ever even got involved moderating this thread.
So, basically, it is yours to do with as you please, so, well, enjoy.

First! Yay! :D
A brand new X-Cres, for all new fun. Mmm, smell that new thread smell.
And as I was saying at the end of the last one, it's incredibly lame that Toy Biz seems to have made the basic X-23 in purple and the variant in black. Idiots. :p

So Brian!!! Can you tell me what kind of bags and boards I need? What kind do you use?
Amusingly enough, for Golden Age books, you will need "Golden Age Bags and Boards"
Silver Age books need "Silver Age Bags and Boards"
Current books need "Current Age Bags and Boards"
That's how Ultra Pro and companies like that sell them. :)
What the deal was, for the longest time, comic companies were afraid to raise the price of the comic. They felt that no one would ever spend more than a dime on a comic book. So rather than raise the price, they just shrunk the size of the book. First, from the size of Golden Age books to smaller books. Then they shrunk the page count. Then they shrunk the page count more. Then they shrunk the book to current age sized. And finally, when they got to the current 32 page format, they really could not afford to go any smaller, so they finally raised the price.
And that's how its been ever since.
Same size, increased prices.

Right, it has been a looooooooooong effing day; I am tired, grouchy, and in dire need of amusement. Thus, I am throwing traditional social mores and taboos right out the damn window -- moreso than usual, anyway -- and instituting a new game, and you all are kindly asked to contribute, even as you continue on with your usual X-Cres posting. To participate in this game, you only need to do two things:
1) Pick an X-Lady of your choosing, doesn't matter who. In your considered opinion, what's the call- au naturel, landing strip, or bare?
THEN:
2) Pick an X-Man of your choosing, doesn't matter who. In your considered opinion, what's the call- au naturel, trimmed, or completely shorn?
Equal opportunity immaturity, no need to get crude in description... speculation only, based on personality. I'll begin.

Random thought of the day: If the U-men had somehow succeeded in removing Cyclops' eyes and implanted them in somebody else, wouldn't that person immediately remove his own eyelids or worst shoot optic beams from his eyes through his whole body.. because he wouldn't have Cyclops ability to absorb his own optic beams... Good point. Plus, even though he actually absorbs the sunlight through his eyes, the body process that converts sunlight into optic blasts is contained in his body. So once whoever got his eyes used up their charge, that'd be it.

Here's what the X-FAQ has to say:
Rogue is a little simpler. Back around the late 100's of UXM, the letters column was answered by the characters for awhile. Wolverine said that Rogue dyed her hair. While you will occasionally hear rumbles along the lines of "peroxide in the Savage Land? I don't think so", there has not been any evidence to contradict Wolverine. Besides, it neatly explains why she mysteriously went from two white streaks to one, and occasionally just to white bangs without the stripe in back. Oh, and Rogue's hair is brown, colorists notwithstanding.
The world may never know...

-D
Actually they explained the two streaks in Rogue's solo series. Rogue for a time dyed a matching white streak into her hair. Mystique thought it looked awful, and Rogue eventually stopped doing it. :)

Same thing for Betsy's purple hair though.. In the Australian Outback for weeks, but still able to get purple dye. She must have done some favours for Gateway.
Only the roots would show, if she was skillful enough, all she had to do was cover them up....although there's quite a abit of differnce between Purple and Blonde.
Wait, what are you on about, didn't they teleport to the mall from time to time?
And as for rouge, same rule applies above...if she dies her hair, which i think she doesn't.

FACTS ABOUT RYAN KIRK:
Ryan's tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never
cried.
Ryan built a time machine and went back in time to stop the JFK assassination. As Oswald shot, Ryan met all three bullets with his glasses, deflecting them. JFK's head exploded out of sheer amazement.
Ryan recently had the idea to sell his urine as a canned beverage. We know this beverage as Red Bull.
Rather than being birthed like a normal child, Ryan instead decided to punch his way out of his mother's womb. Shortly thereafter he grew gigantic biceps.
Ryan is responsible for 12 gold records and six academy award winning movies. He never goes to the award shows however, because he finds Hollywood to be beneath him. Which it is.
Takeru Kobayashi ate 50 and a half hotdogs in 12 minutes. Ryan ate 12 asian babies in 50 and a half minutes. Ryan won.
The original theme song to the Transformers was actually "Ryan--more than meets the eye, Ryan--robot in disguise," and starred Tyan as a sarcastic comic book fan/crime fighter who defended the earth from drug-dealing Decepticons and could turn into a Delorean. This was far too much awesome for a single show, however, so it was divided.
Ryan was the fourth Wiseman. He brought baby Jesus the gift of "hardcore awesomeness". Jesus wore it proudly to his dying day. The other Wisemen, jealous of Jesus' obvious gift favoritism, used their combined influence
to have Ryan omitted from the Bible. Shortly after all three died of roundhouse kick related deaths.
To prove it isn't that big of a deal to beat cancer. Ryan smoked 15 cartons of cigarettes a day for 2 years and aquired 7 different kinds of cancer only to rid them from his body by flexing for 30 minutes.
Beat that, Lance Armstrong.
Ryan once shot a German plane down with his finger, by yelling, "Bang!"
Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet, until Ryan roundhouse kicked her into a glacier.
Ryan frequently signs up for beginner karate classes, just so he can "accidentally" beat the shit out of little kids.
Ryan will take your virginity. If you're thinking to yourself,"That's impossible, I already lost my virginity.",then you are dead wrong.
Ryan can make any woman and most men climax by simply pointing at them and saying "booya".
When Ryan plays Oregon Trail his family does not die from cholera or dysentery, but rather roundhouse kicks to the face. He also requires no wagon, since he carries the oxen, axels, and buffalo
meat on his back. He always makes it to Oregon before you.
Ryan sold his soul to the devil for his masculine good looks and unparalleled martial arts ability. Shortly after the transaction was finalized, Ryan roundhouse kicked the devil in the face and took his
soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldn't stay mad and admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every second Wednesday of the month.
Ryan replaced Angel for one scene and nobody noticed.
Ryan does not sleep. He waits.
Upon viewing your cd and record collection Ryan will not only laugh at you, but the laughter will cause your eyes to bleed. Once blinded by this he will roundhouse kick you and you will thank him for it and mean it.
Ryan punched a woman in the vagina when she didn't give him exact change.
Ryan has every copy of National Geographic in his basement. He also has the ability to lift every single one of them at once.
Ryan once tried to sue Burger King after they refused to put razor wire in his Whopper Jr., insisting that that actually is "his" way.
Ryan ruins the endings of Harry Potter books for children who just bought one for the hell of it. When they start crying Ryan calmly says, "I'll give you something to cry about," and roundhouse kicks
them in the face.
Ryan once went to a fraternity party, and proceeded to roundhouse every popped collar in sight. He then drank three kegs, chided their musical tastes and shit on their floor, just because he's Ryan Kirk.
Ryan doesn't have normal white blood cells like you and I. His have a small black ring around them. This signifies that they are black belts in every form of martial arts and they roundhouse kick the shit out of viruses. That's why Ryan never gets ill.
If you can see Amanda, she can see you. If you can't see Amanda you may be only seconds away from death.
The chief export of Ryan Kirk is pain.

Whenever there's one of those Worst Films threads on TV/Film board, lots of people post Titanic. I hate that. There's no way that's the worst movie anybody's ever seen. It's just popular to trash Titanic.

OK. SO what's everybody's weekend plans.
Ryan will tell you his.
I have a 12 page term paprer on the history and pros and cons of boot camps as an intermediate sanction in the United States due in two weeks. I planned on working on a lot of it this week, but I keep finding new material to read up on so I need to read that and hopefully jot down enough notes to really start writing on Monday.
I'm probably gonna end up working both days this weekend. So that sucks.
I'd like to get around to watching The Devils Rejects DVD I bought and watch this week's episodes of Lost, Smallville, Alias, and The OC that I've taped (haven't had time, had a test this week).
Plus I'd like to gather my buddies up and play poker or something. But that's a longshot. One works 40 hours a week on a weird night schedule and the other has a very demanding 6 months pregnant girlfriend (we shall hereforth refer to her simply as the "bitch who ruined my friend's life").
If I'm lucky about a 1/3 of all that'll get done.
Think I might have to mow the lawn too.
Christmas vacation can't get here soon enough.

Grant Morrison's Superman. Hmm... So is he going to trade-up to a leather costume, and devolve into a lion man? Will he start an affair with someone? And will his enemey in the book be his evil twin that he killed in the womb? Will the last issue reveal that one of the Superman Robots at the Fortress of Solitude was really Lex Luthor all along? Meanwhile, my weekend plans are this:
Friday night: Watch terrible movies @ Beth's place, drink a few beers, maybe make some T-shirts.
Saturday: Qdoba breakfast, Go to my LCS to meet ROBERT KIRKMAN!!!!!! Get him to sign some of my Invincible issues and Marvel Team Up. Then, go play frolf (disc golf for the layman) Not sure what is up that evening.
Sunday: If it's nice I'm going to run the trail @ Castlewood Park up on the bluffs. It's really pretty. Then I will probably hang out w/ my family and eat dinner, retire to my evening of TV shows (Desperate Housewives, Curb Your Enthusiasm) with a seasonal Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks!
