Will House of M ever be on the level of line-wide crossover that Age of Apocalypse is? Will a mini be written about it 10 years from now? After everything is said and done, and all the minis and offshoots of this story are finished, will it have been one of the best stories in Marvel?

I don't think so. It's mainly the result of House of M that is important. I think that will be remembered long after the story (or lack thereof) of House of M itself is forgotten.

I would say no, mostly because it's only function is as a setup to a new direction. All of the events or character development that occurs will take place after House of M. The story is all cause and no effect so regardless of how things go from here, House of M will, at best, be a small start to a much larger status quo, or, at worst, be a forgotten story that was retconned or discarded within a few years.

There's absolutely no way to tell. Hell the last issue just came out 8 days ago.

I'm betting that it probably will become "iconic", all major storylines/crossovers do in some way, either being great or nothing but crap on paper. But I think this one is definitely setting up a new status quo for the MU, and as long as the new status quo is good, its gonna give strength to HoM. So if they accomplish a lot with Decimation, years down the line, new and old readers alike will look back at the mini as the kick off point for the world their beloved characters live in now.

I think the results play an important factor in alot of iconic storys.

Alot of the time (Not all) if writers bring it up, grow on it and such it makes a difference between a great story and an iconic story.

Dark Phoenix, Days of Future Past are mentioned all the time but had they never been mentioned again would they of been iconic or just good stories?

Remembered? Yes, I believe so. Iconic? Personally, I don't see it.

So in your minds did HOM do what it set out to do and completely change the MU forever

It did change the MU in a big way. Forever...I don't know. I don't know if the number of mutants will ever get that big again so I guess so.

It depends on how long it will take Marvel to hit the reset button again.
