I love you too, you stupid git. :D
Reading that reminded me how much I dislike the character. Especially his romance with Kitty. Ew.

Pete Wisdom was the best for Kitty at the time. Kitty and Colossus are done.

Fair point :) It's just that I always had the impression Pete was a tall skinny guy. I expected him to be around 6'.

I believe Kitty and Pete's song was "Baby I love you" by The Ramones. Not bad, I guess, haven't heard the song itself but I've liked other tunes by band I've heard.
I think for some fans, I think they liked the relationship because this was Kitty finally grown up. She was an adult now, not little teenager in roller skates who got her heart broke, or the sad confused young woman who was phasing out of existence, but Kitty finally in control of things, mature, and her own woman. She could date an older man if she wanted to. I liked how Claremont himself put it in the MekaniX prelude "My grown up relationship with my grown up guy" or something to to that effect.
Also, keep in mind that Piotr and Kitty hadn't served on a team together since the Mutants Massacre, so I think, in a lot of fans minds their relation was done. They were just friends now. Probably to others their relationship was that of a schoolgirl crush, like a freshman making googly eyes at a senior. I also think other people (like me instance. Not that I really care a whit who she ends up with.) had come into the X-Men so late in the game that they thought Piotr and Kitty had been just close friends or something (although I think sometime around the Age of Apocalypse I found out they had been involved).
Also remember, that she was definetely being written and drawn as a young adult woman, at the very least someone at age eighteen (the legal age here in the States. No idea what it is in Europe.) Of course, we also saw her drinking at a pub once, although I don't think she got hammered, and we know they were sering non-alchoholic stuff too.
Anyway, I'm just trying to approachthings from all angles here.

Easiest costume gallery in a Spotlight... EVER!
Kitty was not 18 in Excalibur except in Warren Ellis's dreams. Regardless, and I say this between clenched teeth, the relationship does make sense on several levels. Kitty had just been through trauma that had taken everyone who was close to her away- Illyana had died; Colossus had betrayed the X-men, and then returned to Avalon after she had "betrayed" him; she'd just come face to face with Douglock, the very image of her deceased best friend Douglas Ramsey; and Rachel, her closest friend in Excalibur, had just been lost in the timestream. She had a void, and Wisdom showing himself to be not a complete jerk made sense.
From experience, I see her relationship with him as a teenager trying to "act" adult. She had to change her fundamental character too much to last- I think that's what Rigby reminded her of, things that Wisdom would never be bothered to care about.

Kitty and Piotr were teammates on Excalibur. When Excalibur disbanded, Kitty and Piotr (and Nightcrawler) rejoined the X-Men. Piotr died and Kitty left the X-Men to live a normal life, but they are currently teammates again, for Colossus was brought back and Shadowcat (uncharacteristicly) returned to the X-Men.

That was one of the most boringest spotlights I've ever read. Nothing against the UXM.net crew, because they did an excellent job, but man is Pete Wisdoms history boring. I could hardly get through, and it was only two pages. I was skimming through most of it. Hopefully CC does something interesting with him, because right now I find him as a completely unappleaing character.

I really disagree with you here - he was more interesting for her than a certain long time X Man who will remain nameless in case I get in trouble with this character's fans! :D

kind of short, i'd say. i feel they glossed over wisdom's x-force stuff, and really abbreviated his overall x-history.
/also surprised they chose an eye-patch version costume as his default

I found Pete to be an entertaining sod, but he just didn't gel with the X-books. I've read a few posts that referred to him as John Constantine Lite, and that about sums him up for me.
His relationship with Kitty seemed forced also. Never quite got behind them; antagonistic chemistry(which they had) doesn't always translate into romantic chemistry. I have that same problem with Buffy and Spike, only more so in their case; at least Pete was inherently on the side of the angels.
All in all, Pete had potential, but he just didn't belong in an X-book. Maybe if they had a Marvel Knights imprint back then Pete would get his own title and totally stomp butt. As an X-team member, he seldom rose above the twin titles of "sarcastic wanker" and "Kitty's bad-boy". Having said that, I hope that Claremont can make Pete more multi-dimensional in his new Excalibur.
Also remember, that she was definetely being written and drawn as a young adult woman, at the very least someone at age eighteen (the legal age here in the States. No idea what it is in Europe.).I was reading Excalibur at the time. When Wisdom was introduced, Kitty was being drawn like she was still a teenager. I had assumed she was no older than 16 by the way she was drawn.
You can see it on that UXM spotlight:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y37/haggard/wisdom04.jpg
By that image, I'd say Kitty was anywhere from 14 to maybe 17.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y37/haggard/wisdom06.jpg
And here, even though she's partially obscured by shadows, doesn't it look like they drew her more mature even though this was like 6-8 issues later?
It seemed like they forced Kitty to be older than she was being portrayed just for this icky romance with Wisdom (who was in his 30's or so). So I feel justified in saying "Ew" when it comes to Kitty and Wisdom's relationship.

Kitty and Colossus are done.
They're done? They never even got started! I'm sorry, but a 14 year old girl is experiencing nothing more than puppy love, Peter couldn't even really touch her or have a real relationship with her because of that. So I see it as a stupid infatuation on his behalf and puppy love on hers. Now is the time for them to actually pursue a more mature relationship, not say "its over and done", cause it hasn't been done!
As for the Wisdom and Kitty, eh, I didn't particularly enjoy it. I just don't think that they were a good fit for one another, but the fact that it was her first "adult" relationship gives a lot of room for growth. She's now a wiser woman for having hooked up with him and probably has a better idea who she is and what she wants, at least in a significant other. I think it was good for character progression, but not a good long term relationship, it served its purpose and it should be over.

About the rumour Ellis created Kitty for some wierd crush he had on her, so he could have the comic character version of himself go out with her:
It's untrue.

Which part? The crush or that Wisdom is based on Ellis? I can see the first part being false, easily. It's a fiction after all. But I don't think there's much debate about whether or not Wisdom is a Warren Ellis stand in

Kitty is no loner a thirteen year old girl with hearts popping out of her eyes and circling around her head. That was a childhood crush, and it's so finished. It was great, but it's done.

Didn't Wisdom die during the Warren Ellis reload thingie that was done on all the peripheral titles? I swear he died during the X-Force run...Not that it really matters, I suppose, this IS Marvel after all

But half the age of Pete Wisdom. *shrug* It works in my theory of their relationship, that she was just playing at an adult relationship.
She should've spent more time around superheroes her own age.

Oh, and I finally did think of one good thing to come of the Kitty/Wisdom relationship. Lockheed's hatred of him. I fondly remember one issue where Wisdom chased Lockheed up to the roof because the little dragon stole some of his clothes. Lockheed was so cute in saying, "Back off or I kill the clothes."

Reading all of this on the Wisdom Spotlight mad me realise how a Peter Wisdom comic would make a great spy-crossed with X-Files-book!
