I have a job interview. EEK! Wish me luck, please.. preferably good luck... I am SO frigging stressed over this. (But also sleepy still. Hence the overuse of ellipses instead of exclamation points.)

Yes, I was working before, but it was temporary.

You don't need luck.

Luck is for unqualified, uninteresting, unintelligent doofs.

Hell, send me some luck.

You'll be great.

What sort of job?

DarkBlade
11-10-2005, 09:23 AM
SQUEEEEEE!

IGotItIGotItIGotItIGotItIGotItIGotIt!!! I got the job! :) *bouncebounce* I'll start working at the Juvenile Justice Center on monday, in charge of their computer lab.

And the great part? They're nearly as excited as I am about it. :) The English Dept Head from the high school I was at the last two months gave me a glowing review, and they'd heard good things about me from some other folks. They said after they got my app and checked my references, they were both hoping I'd be willing to do it for the pay (starting pay for paraprofessionals is kinda low) and that no union folks would want the job. (They have to offer all positions to union people first, and I think they get priority in consideration, it's in some sort of contract.)

Not only that, but they're going to see about getting my pay bumped up a bit given my experience. Glee! I'm now an actual full time employee and will get benefits and such. YAAAAAAAAAY BOUNCE!

Oh! And anyone hired on as a paraprofessional, or an existing one, has to either have an Associates degree, or pass a test from ETS/PRAXIS folks. (Deadline is somepoint in 2006, I think January. No Child Left Behind thing.) I got a 480! That's top score. :) I only missed one question. (It was either about a misspelling, or one of those "find the predicate" things that I haven't looked at in nearly a decade.) They said they've had less than five people do that well on it in the SBCSC. ^_^

Yay!

(Can you tell I'm excited?)

I'm meeting the head of Special Ed tomorrow down at the JJC so I can look around, meet the detention center officers, other teachers, etc. That and not be clueless how to get in on monday morning.

Bwhee!

You got it?

AWESOME!

DarkBlade
11-10-2005, 09:57 AM
Very! ^_^ Thanks. :) Quite a few folks are like, WTF? You mean kids that are in jail?

Well, yeah.. but there's an officer in the room at all times, and they're in the halls... really, I'm safer there than in a regular high school. I mean hell, kids have to check out pencils. Yes, pencils. If I don't get back the same number I checked out, nobody leaves till I do. Etc etc.

Just a question... why did you have a job interview at 5:30 in the morning... I didnt realize people woke up that early.

Side note: Congrats on the job.... and yes you are safer than at a regular high school. I know... I go to a regular high school.

I'm happy you're happy, congratulations. As someone who works with kids like this for the past ten years, don't turn your back on them. Don't trust them. Never let the officer leave you alone with them.

...oh yeah, one more thing. Never, ever let them see a picture of Trix in the feather boa.

Congrats on getting the job.

Its a great feeling when that happens, and now you've got 30+ years of mind numbing drudgery as the 9-5 roles suck your sole into the netherverse that is the rat race, making the weekend a joyful nirvana that takes a lifetime to reach, and a second to enjoy before your nose is pressed, with great force, back to the grind stone each Monday morning.

Enjoy !!!

(As you can tell, I love my job. ;) )

Oh great, so you don't even get to sit in rush hour traffic.

Pffft - thats not a proper job.

Incidentally, why is it called rush hour, when nothing moves?

DarkBlade
11-11-2005, 04:59 AM
Probably the same reason you drive on a parkway. And really, the only time traffic is real bad around here (that's not weather related, anyway) is Notre Dame home games. Rrgh. Back home though, I'd still be hitting at least the morning rush hour(s).

K'Nort is shocked:

You saw Ishtar????

Several times! The first half's HILARIOUS! The songs they write are so awful that they're WONDERFUL!

It's after they head to the desert that the whole thing falls apart and becomes one of the worst movies ever made.

It probably would have been much better recieved if it was just a movie about two horrible song-writers that find each other without all the bad intregue.
