I'm registered already, but haven't made any arrangements for accomodations. We'll probably do the KOA again, since it's cheap and only a trolley ride away. Unless I find some extra money, in which case we'll try to stay where Scott Sha!'s family does, so that Chris and Kirby can hang out together.
It's all carved in jello at the moment.

So, who's planning on going in 2006?
I'll be there again! I've already got money stashed for it.
I'm all about the hotel again.
I want to explore the city a bit more next time, beyond Gas Lamp.
That's all for now!

July 20-23, 2006
I received the CCI 2005 Update #3 in the mail today and there was some info on the 2006 Con included. The mailer included a multipurpose registration form for 2006 (though I don't see it on their website yet.
SDCC is scheduled for July 20-23, 2006. Preview Night is scheduled for July 19 and is for 4-day members only.
Some of the invited guests for 2006 are Daniel Clowes, Everett Raymond Kinstler, Robert Kirkman, James Kochalka, Roger Langridge, Andy Runton, John Wagner, and Scott Williams.
So, who's planning on going in 2006? Is everyone interested in staying in one hotel again? Who's looking to room together? Which hotels are we looking at? Is anyone interested in camping? And anything special you wnat to do during your trip?
Does it say when hotel registration starts?

I'm trying to convince my wife. She wants to take the kids to a family vacation in Disneyland. I'm trying to include the other Disney in the equation.
If airfare to California is cheaper, or reasonably priced, we're going to California. My wife has family there and she could stay with them while I hop to San Diego.
If airfare is equally priced to either destination, then the deciding factor will be hotel accomodations. Florida we'd have to pay for the hotel, but in California, we would not.
Like last year, I'll know for sure in december.
I'm a shrewd mofo.
I booked my vacation from the 16th to the 27th, because I only have 9 paid days.
Today, I took an a Saturday morning inventory count. Right near my house. It should take me a total of 2 hours, for which I will bill the client 8 and carry that day over to give myself a full 15 day paid vacation, counting weekends.
That's right, I'll be in San Diego, and still making money.
I should get an award or something.

Well when I was looking around the same time last year, $200 a night was what I was finding to be the median.

Now I need $800 or 3 roomies.

Downtown - Harbor Island has a better choice of a 3.5 star one for $179 per night
I'm either waiting for koop's block or getting a room at the Bristol near the Gaslamp district.

The wife and I already have our room reserved.
Most hotels will take reservations a year in advance, and some up to two. Some of the best hotels near to the convention center are already booked, the Hilton (right next door) for example, is already fully booked for the weekend.

Hey me too since Stars and Garters will now be shacking up with K'Nort at next years. That's sweet. Pretty damn optimistic, but sweet.
And Trix/DB and Rally/BB were practical enough to share rooms with others; why wouldn't we? Unless there were downsides I just never heard about....Works for me. I think it's the best of both worlds.
Ah. I thought you meant you took it home.
Ours were $45, I think. I can't keep them straight with the teddy bear. Those were some really nice bathrobes. I wouldn't mind having one to use again at all.
That said, that was a really nice hotel. Don't know if it's in my budget either.

OK, on to pricing and things.
Last year, the Hilton and Omni were $192 and $199 respectively, for right across the street. That would be my first and second choice, from a distance standpoint. The Manchester Grand Hyatt (2 blocks away) was $175. The Horton Plaza Westin was $164/$179. And the Embassy Suites (5 blocks) was $185.
Now, with the hotels going on sale in February (according to Brandon) there is time for some deciding (and the Comic-Con website says more details in January).
Now, I was planning, if anyone else wanted, on trying to get the rooms in a block (they let you reserve multiple rooms online, or so it said on last year's page). I would say, if anyone else is wanting rooms, it would probably be best to try to get them in blocks with other people. But, if need be, I am willing to take some (up to 10 rooms if I had to, can't get more because of the first day's deposit.) Is there anyone who would be interested in this? It could help guarantee a group of CBR people being close together.

Per night. 2 people, 2 beds, which is what we had all the rooms down as last year.
If you want to go 4 people per room listed, the prices jump up $40 for any of them per night.

They can't fill up until that date, the rooms are reserved for SDCC guests and won't go on sale until then. That's why if you try to get rooms from any of the SDCC official hotels, they say they hotels are all booked up. As long as we would get the hotel on the day it went on sale, you should be fine.

Was it really that bad before Howy and I got there?I don't remember what he's talkin' about, but I was there in '04 as well. You're really asking two questions there. The first one takes me back to 1934. Admiral Burn had just reached the pole, only hours ahead of the Three Stooges...
... and I guess he won the argument, but I walked away with the turnips. The following morning I resigned my commission with the coastguard. The next thing I knew there was civil war in Spain...
... and, that's everything which happened in my life right up to the time I made this post.

Yeah...but was it fun?
Sir Tim Drake
11-17-2005, 06:37 AM
Likewise. I could just as easily NOT go to the Con itself. I think I even told QW that this past year. I didn't even really buy anything that I couldn't have gotten from koop at a Philly show.
For me this isn't true. When the exhibit hall is open, I only leave the convention center to get food, and then only reluctantly. There's just too much to see and too many people to meet.

That reminds me. Last year's room did not have separate doors for shower and toilet. That must change. Shouldn't be an issue at the more expensive places closer in, though.
Were Alex and I not exactly as advertised?
I mean distorted how much fun 2004 was in order to get folks to show up in 2005. Alex is now remembering 2004 as lame, apparently.

Alright, now that my voice has returned unto me, I am getting ready to call my mom-in-law's travel agent Jose, just to see what kind of deals he might have. (not getting any reply from Koop or his agent, and I figure he will probably go ahead and use his guy since he needs that relationship, and will probably have extra rooms too. when last I talked to koop he said he was asking for ten to fifteen rooms)
I have been trying to sift through this thread to figure out how many rooms I need to ask for to be safe, but, y'all are just confusing. I can't figure out quite who needs to be in the block I am coordinating, and who is going in the one Ron is. I will probably still go ahead and coordinate for Koop too if he needs me too, that's not a problem.
Right now all I could gather that for certain would need to use Jose are Aaron and me and BB, since, from what I saw in this thread, the QW/K'/Stars/Mmm room is going with Ronald? Yes? No?
This is what I could figure out so far. Sorry I can't figure out what the hell is going on, I have been very sick and still headachey...Please pm me to correct my assumptions, tell me who I missed, etc.

Official convention hotel rooms go on sale this coming Wednesday, which means I need a final count of who all I need to get rooms for. If anyone else would like a room reserved, speak now, and if there is a problem, say something.
Rooms:
-Me
-Cay, Jade (Rallura/BB? You taking up my offer?)
-QW, Gus, K'Nort, Lena
-Dom (you cancelled yet?)
Also, when does everyone plan on arriving/departing? And I know QW's room wants it listed as a 4 person room, anything else?

Well, I've been discussing this with my wife and there is a possibility that we make the trip.
It involves convincing my in-laws to come with us so they can hang out together while I'm down at the Con.
Of course, the trip would go to a 6 day jaunt like last year to a full family 15 day vacation, with a side trip to Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
This week we decide...
