Screw that! I donated blood two SDCCs back and it was awful. Some rookie put the needle in and he did it wrong and went through the vein. I took awhile to fill up the bag but that was because I was bleeding in other places besides where the needle was. When I finished, I passed out for a few seconds from blood loss. I also had a giant bruise all across my arm.

On the plus side, it was easy for me to get drunk for the remainder of my stay.

But your situation is more than understandable.

I know that since 2004 hall H has been the movie preview panel room and such but did they use halls a through g in 2003? I forget. I know in 2002 it was just a through e.

Also hmmm, I might go to the brisco county panel just cause the two bruce campbell panels I went to last year were hilarious. I'm going to it cause I think it'll be hilarious as well.

well when i look on ebay and see comics and even sometims *gasp* trades signed on their front covers than I can understand the flippant attitude towards the practice. Meeting and talking to the creators is indeed quite important and the signature is a nice memento to remind you of that experience. Coming from the world of book collectors, having a creator's signature on the title page of a nice pristine hardcover is a great addition to a book and a library. I understand that this is a different way of looking at things than hording comic magazines hidden in plastic cases in boxes in the back of your closet but hey
I think its a nice touch if they personalize it for you. That way # 1 they know you're not just getting it to sell it on EBAY and #2 what they say on the book is going to be more of a reminder of the conversation you had with them.

When are we starting the pub crawl?

And, are there going to be people needing picked up at the airport? I am pretty sure our hotel has a shuttle. Anyone flying in needs to check on shuttles to their lodging. I am not sure yet when BB and I get in. In a pinch we could pick someone up, but, from last year, I HATE THAT AIRPORT.

Anyway. Did I promise to bring mudslide mix? Cause I think I did. And I need to find that other recipe for the Orange Julius things.

Here's the deal with me and the Weenie Roast. I have a hosted dinner I'm attending until 7PM at 345 Fourth Avenue, San Diego, which is fairly close to the convention center. I'm driving the Mustang, so technically I have four other seats, realistically 3, less if anyone has any cargo. Here is the map of where I'll be:

http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=345+Fourth+Avenue,+San+Diego,+CA

Ronald's already got the shotgun, unless he wants to take some kind of earlier transportation. So that leaves two open seats in the back.

As for other stuff, it looks like I'm working for Jonah, so I don't know exactly what my availability schedule is going to be like. But I have a car and a cellphone, so I'm easily reachable.

hey guys I'm sorry with only days away before the con I am so beyond stoked about the convention. This is the first ComicCon I'll be attending and I was just wondering if someone who has been to previous con's could answer a few questions...

Okay pre-reg. I have a friend who can't make it to the Wed. night pickup... will it take her most of thursday morning in line to get her badge? Because I know we are friends and all but if that's the case I may have to start without her... >.<

secondly I was looking at the program and good lord there is so much going on. Are the panel rooms really big to where you are likely to get out of one panel and easily get into another. Or if there's a panel, that maybe relatively packed.. do you need to be prepared to wait in line for an hour or two before it starts? because since they have all the panels slotted back to back and simultaneously I'm trying to figure out if I can make as many as possible or if I'm only going to be able to see maybe 2 a day and the rest of the time be waiting in line... :(

that's really all I guess... I'm sure I'll come up with more later...

Because I know we are friends and all but if that's the case I may have to start without her... >.<Last year was my first also, and I didn't make Preview Night (and my plane ended up having a 12-hour layover) so I had to pick up my pass that Friday morning. I recall having to go to a different location to get my badge, but no, it didn't take that long. Of course I went the second full day, so I imagine that Thursday morning could take some time.

I did get to each relatively early (maybe half an hour?) and was fine. I think you'll need to plan to be at the likely more popular panels earlier than others.

It looks like Jonah has some spare tech for me. Worst case scenario though, if I don't have any wired connection, I have a thumb drive. So all I need is a place I can type, and then I can either beg someone to email it for me, or just give Jonah the drive.

The night before the con, take one Melatonin lozenge (http://www.n101.com/melatonin_lozenge_033674491119.html) right before you go to bed. It'll put you out for 8 hours. It seems that I need two, but I outweigh you by 100 pounds.
That, or drink copious amounts of alcohol and pass out in a puddle of your own vomit. The plus side, no hangover, since you vomited everything up. The downside, there's the potential for drowning.

The 7PM time I listed on the first page for the Preview Night Dinner was just a guess. Remember, I wasn't there for it last year.

So what's the deal? Do we normally gather for dinner BEFORE or AFTER Preview Night (which runs from 6-9PM)?

EDIT: Aaron just informed me that Horton Plaza closes at 9PM, so that eliminates AFTER. Do we want to meet up before Preview Night (like 5PM) or during Preview Night (like 8PM)?

I definitely got there after Preview Night last year. But most people were already there. And many of the food stalls were already closed.

The symptoms of jet lag can be quite varied, though on the whole, an individual may experience the following:

* Dehydration and loss of appetite
* Headaches and/or sinus irritation
* Fatigue
* Disorientation and/or grogginess
* Nausea and/or upset stomach
* Insomnia and/or highly irregular sleep patterns
* Irritability, Irrationality

To anyone who is either willing to get a souvenir book for me or at least look through it to see if my art or art by my students are in it... here is a small description of what each of us did. This again, is the large book that has all the fan art and writings about all the special occasions and big anniversaries in comics that are themes at SDCC this year. If we are in the book, and you would like to help us get a copy or two, again, I can happily pay postage or do some artwork in trade for it. I mentioned this about 20 pages back, haha, so it probably got buried.

I'm not sure if there is one. There are so many publishers and so many books. Mostly only Small Press/Indie publishers will have "new" books out for the show. Marvel and DC do not sell books at the show.

The Beat (http://pwbeat.publishersweekly.com/blog/)has a pretty good listing of various booths and books that are at the show.

thanks...i've been poring over the beat for days and only have a few items on my list (agreeable comics #1, and the backstory to elephantmen, which I could probably order but I'm hoping it'll be easier to just get them all at a booth).

I guess I'll just ask, then: can anyone recommend any exciting indie books making their debut at the show? or folks/projects that will be in the small press area that will blow my mind? (maybe this needs its own thread? if so, i apologize.)

Anyone want to see an advanced screening of the film ACCEPTED in San Diego, right in the hustle and bustle of Comic-Con? The film stars Justin Long (Dodgeball) and the very funny Lewis Black (The Daily Show). The film is about a high school burnout who after being continuously rejected by all the colleges that he applied to, creates his very own fake university.

There are four screenings of the movie. Two on Thursday (7/20) at 5 p.m. and at 8 p.m. Friday (7/21) will have screenings at 11 a.m. and at 2 p.m.

For those who attend the screenings, a free bbq will take place on July 21st from 5 p..m. to 9 p.m. at the Hilton Gaslamp’s front Lawn. Priority entrance will occur for the attendees who attended the screenings. And YES, there will be FREE beer.

RSVP to the advanced screening of ACCEPTED in San Diego @ http://www.campuscircle.net/screening/accepted and follow the appropriate screening that you would like to attend.

Sorry to beat a dead horse here.... but now that some of you have that wonderful souvenir program by now, maybe you will know.

Can anyone tell me if this artwork made it into the souvenir program??? There were a few others I am curious about, by students, but I don't have them handy. However, I can give some descriptions. The one by Tony is easy to describe... it has Captain America posing (full-shot) with a large Red Skull's head behind him, surrounded by black. Kurt's is a shot of Conan standing atop some bodies. Jon's is a profile of Dick Tracy. Vance did a Heroes Reborn Captain America, and Kevin did an image of Captain Kirk with a Captain America shirt on.

Thanks!
Scott

kkk...can you give us any new cool news or spoilers???

If it's like last year, there won't be any big news coming out of SDCC. I think the only big thing at last year's con was a brief preview shot of Superman Returns (which I didn't see, unfortunately).

I forget which con, but they save most everything for this other big con (Wizard World, maybe?).

On the panels I went to at SDCC last year, they mostly just tried to be entertaining as they said repeatedly "We can't say anything."

The companies do release some news. Check CBR's main page (http://www.comicbookresources.com/) for it.

But they also hold back some news for later cons such as Wizard World.

No SDCC is the biggest in the US. Some publishers just hold back news for later cons.

There are several Wizard Worlds. The biggest on is in Chicago. It is only about half the size of SDCC.

is it ok to ask artists on artists alley for autographs? or is that considered bad form?

Also getting back to my original question (which was never answered), case in point: i see that grant morrison was on a panel yesterday. What does that make the chances of him being around tomorrow, at a booth or signing autographs or whatever?

Most artists will be willing to sign stuff. But it is best to see if they have a sign on their table and ask before hand.

Most guest of the con will be there for the whole con unless otherwise stated on the con site or their companies own schedule.

For talent such as Grant Morrision who works for DC, it is best to check the DC booth for the dates and times for his signings.

one of the channels on Dish Network is doing a "live" at the ComicCon review and yes, the vast majority of the features are about people in costume - those at the Con and those who go out everyday dressed as characters. The other features are movies, props, interviews with uber fanboys done by babe reporters who then denigrate the guys when they cut back tot he camera. The whole thing left me with two thoughts: comic geeks are getting a real bad rap and where's the comics?

well. . it WAS on G4 (the gaming network), and sprinkled thruout was a lot of information that was comics related (in the first 15 minutes they go to the DC booth and talk about upcoming DC/Vertigo/Wildstorm/ABC books).

yeah, a lot of the show is "jokey-jokey" stuff about costumes (the piece about the guy who shows up on Hollywood Boulevard dressed as Wolverine every weekend makes me glad I don't know him). . . but it is kind of interesting.

and the piece about the female reporter (who Jonah got a pic of in his Photoparade!) dressing up as a stormtrooper for a day was pretty funny (and it was obvious that the members of the 501st were in on the gag).

Thanks, Matt, for letting me know I got in the book!

Hey everyone, it sounds (and looks) like you folks had a fun time in San Diego. I hope I can get out there next year to experience the same kind of energy and excitement about the whole event. I've only been out there twice so far, and it's been the best con ever.

I joke that it's the six-year curse for me though. I went in 1996, then 2002, and probably won't get back out there until likely 2008. But with any luck, I'll get out there next year instead.

I'm going to try to get out to Baltimore again this year. I went in 2003. Also, Mid-Ohio would be okay... went there in 2004.

We hardly went to the con and his booth was always busy. I did stop by and say hi a few times but I didn't want to interrupt his sales. It looked like he had a good con but we never made plans to see each other.

He had a washed up playmate next to him working a little corner Koop gave her.
