I don't know who I'm rooming with, but I plan to arrive on Wednesday and leave on Monday.

EDIT: I thought I was in some sort of an arrangement with Mark and Rally, but I hadn't heard anything about the offer Ron mentions. I do want to stay with the rest of the CBR people, though, so if you are willing to include me in this deal, Ron, I would greatly appreciate it.

I am sorry Aaron, I should have said something about that when I replied to Ronlad. I haven't forgotten you, Koop so far as the last time I spoke to him was getting extra rooms so you'll get worked in somehow, ok?

Possibly.

What's cinching it as a no-go for me, is that I'm already down for Dragon*con (so that's a week off there), and Nick and I want to vacation together this year (to Vegas and the Grand Canyon). . so I need to leave my other vacation week for that.

Just got my Comic-Con book with hotels in it! Figure I'll call them up tomorrow and tell them everythig. But if I can get what i want, rooms should be around $200, maybe a little more a night depending on taxes.

Final rooms:

-Mine (Wed-Tues)
-Rally's(Wed-Tues)
-QW's(Wed-Tues)
-Howy's(Wed-Mon)
-Dom's?(Wed-Mon?)

If anyone wants anything last second, I will be on for maybe another hour at most, and then may not be able to get on until it is too late. So speak up now.

Thanks.

Since my ex-b/f got me started a few years ago, I must have thousands of comics...maybe up to seven thousand by now, I dunno. Close to it, at least. I've bought huge lots on eBay. I should start making a list of 'em.

As long as I know I'm not going anywhere, I don't mind drinking, but if it even looks like someone is gunna haveta be a designated driver, I don't touch a drop. Mostly because there's always a chance I can take pictures and blackmail someone later...!

Also, I haveta consider whether Deathlok is gonna be there...because, it's a conundrum: Do you really wanna be drunk with him around, what might he do to me if I was drunk? ... but on the other hand, would you wanna be sober around him? See, someone is gonna haveta stay sober if he shows up...so there are some questions that haveta be answered here...it might not be safe to drink under certain circumstances.

Last time Nicole and I went to SDCC in 2004. It cost us about $400 for two airline tickets. We got a hotel in downtown SD for $140 a night for five nights. So for flight and hotel, it cost us around $1,100.

That does not include any food or comic purchases. But I also tabled and sold my comics so I made a little money while I was there.

We got this close by venturing out to meet each other. The community is very welcoming to friendly folks. In fact, before I ever posted here, I went down to SDCC with MacQ and his family. I met people there, and that's how I got started on CBR.

The other thing is that politics pretty much never come up during the week. Most of the time is spent talking about comics and other posters. And don't forget the drinking.

Come on down. Worst case scenario, you can push the jerks into the ocean.

I am still planning on going. My firm may be sending me to LA around con time. So at worst, I can sneak away for 3 days. I don't know which three days they might be yet.

At worst, I will not be sent, and I will book my own trip. Rather than leaving everyone in a lurch, I'll handle my own room booking. I don't want anyone holding a room for me, and I end up only popping in for 2 nights.

Just to remind everyone, Koop was also planning to get extra rooms.

And I have plans to update the San Diego info post within the next week.

Yeah, after talking to him, I'm taking one of Koop's rooms. I just purchased my plane ticket today after looking at scheduling. I'm in.

Why thank you Punchy! I am always so glad to receive such helpful and constructive advice!

Listen, yes, some people can be a right pain in the ass. But no one forced me into coordinating information. For all the irritants, I prefer to try and help people be in groups, as that means when I want to talk to a friend, all I have to do is go down the hall. I'm just lazy that way. *insert smiley here*

I hate the world right now.

So, i was planning on booking online, to get a closer place, so what does the assistant manager do? Not fly back from Florida like she was supposed to, leaving me stuck in the store all day! And she never called. So, I guess i have to book by phone. So, what does this one asshole do? Call the store one minute before the tickets would go on sale, and stay on the line for over 20 minutes about his stupid mother buying paint and calling the store about it being bad over a month ago and how "nop one called her back." So, I couldn't start calling until late, didn't get connected until 1, and didn't get a representative for another 20 mintues. By then, getting a block of five rooms (Dom, you can call them up and get your dates changed anytime you need. Although, I'm sure I mispelled your last name.) was next to impossible.

The good:

I got five rooms. and they have a nice view of the Bay.

The bad:

Holiday Inn on the Bay, 13 blocks-1 1/2 miles away(which I believe is closer than last year, and there is a trolley near it, and I don't think has a giant hill to get to it), and they could only get one room booked for Wednesday at the moment, but will keep trying.

Room prices are $158-$188 depending on 2 people or 4 per room. Tax is 10%. I put down Rally, howy, myself, QW, and Dom(bastard) as room captains. The rooms are booked Wed-Tues, but can be changed individually, I believe. Eventually, several of those rooms can be moved off of my card, by calling 1-877-552-6642 and telling them our names.

Next time, I will close the store down and leave it if they can't get me any damn help in the store apart from the unreliable kind.

Two options, I would gather. Koop is supposed to have extra rooms booked, or we can yank Dom out of his room (since who knows about him) and put the fly/Kurt room together there. Only problem there is the fact that as of now they only have one room booked for Wednesday night (Who the hell would be staying for just Wednesday?) Still, the Comic-Con travel people are pretty sure rooms will open up.

On another note, I have all the names down for Rally's room. but to have people listed, I need last names.

It's all in the "if"s.

If we get a new credit card, we get a free round trip ticket anywhere in Mexico.
If we get that, we're going to request a trip to Tijuana.
If we get that, we're going to see if my in-laws can take the kids for a week.
If we get that, we're going to see if we can get a room in San Diego for one night.
If we get that, we're going to go to the Con on Thursday and the Weenie Roast.
If we can get all those things, we're going to Las Vegas for 3 days, and then

If all that's possible, there's a chance me and my wife are going to SDCC (for two days, max).

It's all in the "if's".

For my group. I need full names of everyone staying in the rooms for the SDCC travel planners, for check in. Of course, if you want to pay the $158 instead of $188 you can try to sneak people in. Rally's room is done, mine is kind of done, Quarterwolf's I need lena's last name on, and whoever will be in howyadoin's room.

Onto the rooms, I just was able to update all the rooms for the proper nights, so everyone will have a room!

I have all five rooms booked from Wednesday until the groups are leaving, with one room check out on Sunday (for fly and Cei-U), two for Monday, and two rooms for check out on Tuesday for whoever stays. Once I have names all down, I can then pass along how much each room will be.

MacQ, it would be great of you to update the CampCBR page.
I'd love to. It's a content issue. I need content! Names, arrival and departure times, that sort of thing.

Oh MacQ, are you and Mrs. and DB doing the same as last year on the Weenie Roast?
We haven't even discussed it yet.

I just listed you and Punchy for now, because they make you have two names in a room for a two bed room.

Totally!! Hi everyone, I'm Mary by the way! I'm in England but would love to go to the SDCC this year. But Not many of my friends are into comics (cos they're girly girls or blokey blokes) so...any ideas??? There would have to be some kind of finding me at the airport, driving me to a hotel and making sure I don't get raped/mugged/killed (!) But costumes would be fuuunny ;)

Okay, somebody needs to make sure that this one is taken care of.

I'm going to present a paper as part of the Comic Art Conference at Comicon. I just learned that my proposal was accepted. My first conference paper! :)

The presentation will be about Dylan Horrocks's Hicksville as an example of the intersection between formal and cultural hybridity, so I don't know if anyone here will be interested in it, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

We're celebrating CBR's 10th Anniversary at SDCC.

I e-mailed Jonah about the idea, but he's ambivalent. Admits he's not great about promoting himself, hates to do panels, so he's not sold on the idea.

However, I told him we are having a CBR birthday cake at the Weenie Roast, and he said he'll be there for that. So it's official, there will be a CBR Birthday Party at SDCC.

I also decided to try an end-run around Jonah, and e-mailed the convention folks directly to see if we could get something on the schedule officially. If they say yes, I'll go ahead and organize it. And there will be cake there as well.

It's all about the cake.

SOMEday we'll make it out there, though I don't know if it'll be *with* Finn in tow, or with him at the grandparents' house(s). Everyone enjoy the cake and festivities, and blow a kiss at a candle for me.

And, if I find out that Hugh Jackman's gonna be there promoting X3, I'm going to cry. For real. It's... it's as bad as Jade not getting to meet Orlando Bloom when he's gonna be somewhere.

Well, this isn't an announcement I'm gonna enjoy making, but it looks pretty likely that I'm gonna have to bail this year. My financial situation couldn't be much worse at the moment - to give you an example, I've been living off my credit cards for close to 3 months now, and two of them are maxed out. The work situation is finally starting to pick up, but with only 2 months between now and the Con, even if I get a shitload of work in that time, I still can't afford to take the time off work, much less spend a couple grand on the trip itself.

Sorry, folks. Maybe next year.

I need to save up $300 more and then after that, every penny I collect will be toward SDCC. I think I will get the $300 by the end of next week since I also get paid tommorrow ($120!).

Also, Im have been putting aside $100 a week for the past 3 weeks for the hotel and by June, Ill have saved up $1000 which I will use to book the hotel. I could book it even sooner since May is the busiest month of tips for me (I could even make $1000 in 2 weeks, hell I made $350 last year in tips on Cinco de Mayo alone). I have 3 people for our room so there's still room for one more
