View Full Version : Tom Cruise fires Publicist (His Sister)
Tom Cruise has apparently fired his publicist, who happens to be his sister. Apparently this is due to the bad publicity the received this past year. His star rating has fallen from 11 to 197.
Now I am not certain as to how these things work. But really shouldn't Cruise be fixing the blame on himself. He's the one who made an ass of himself on national tv. First on Oprah (couch jumping) then showing up on Access Hollywood and trashing psychiatry and scolding Brooke Sheilds for taking medication for her depression etc.
I can understand if Cruise got mad and fired her because private stuff got leaked out into the press. But he effectively ruined his own reputation by his own on air beligerent behaviour on tv.
Tom Cruise fired his sister because he is supposed to get good publicity, despite his behavior. I think it's creepy his is going to have a baby with a girl old enough to be his daughter.

C'mon, be fair. They are couples where the age difference is much greater. Cruise looks great for his age. I don't see a problem with it.

How did he get bad publicity, everybody is talking about him and Katie Holmes and how there gonna have a kid and get married. Lets see Tom was on Oprah and probably one of the Late shows or what ever. Hes like the T.O. of the movie industry.
He'd be better off firing his cult.
It's not going to happen.

The bad publicity did not help War of the Worlds. Katie Holmes did not get rehired for the Batman sequel. Tom Cruise did himself in on Oprah Winfrey & other retail outlets. I hope he contacts the spaceship soon to take him back to Neverland Ranch to be one of Michael Jackson's mannaquins.

To be fair to 'ol Tomcat, he fired his original publicist of many years (maybe 15-20) last year in order for his sister to take over. It's not like she had been on the job for a long time. Apparently he acts this way all the time and his other publicist was able to keep him in check, his sister couldn't.
It wasn't the Oprah Show that did it for me, it was the Today Show argument with Matt Lauer.

I know, I understand he fired Pat Kinsey because she wanted him to shut up about Scientology. After watching his public escapades I figured that she had him on a short leash. And that his sister couln't control him.
Someone told me that prior to Nicole Kidman he only dated older woman. And it made me wonder if he had a "mommy complex" and hooked up with older women so they could take care of him and tell him what to do. I know Kinsey was a much older woman, maybe that was her role to 'mother him'.
The thing that get's me is....did he actually fire his sister because she couldn't control him? It just sounds like blamming someone else for your own bad behaviour.

A Hollywood star take the blame for his own actions when he can pass the buck to some flunky regardless of their relation to him? RIGGGGGGGGHHHHT.

It'll be interesting to see how his next few movies fare, if they aren't spectacles like War of the Worlds, and the fallout from them. I remember reading and article this summer about how overseas movies distributors were bent because when they were brought to L.A. to screen the movie, they were made to take a tour of the Scientology center, which is quite long as I understand it. Not the best way to keep business partners happy.

Katie Holmes did not get rehired for the Batman sequel.
She was fired, but months ago she was bought back.
To bad, I would have liked to see Isla Fisher take over as the female protogonist. :(

As I understand it, Cruise's old publicist was reknowned as a real pro in the business, and ran the Cruise public relations machine like a tight ship. So you didn't see Tom acting so wacky on national TV, nor would reporters ask him too much about scientology, since they knew that by doing so, they'd lose access to him. I also don't think Tom and Nicole Kidman held a freakin' press conference when they got engaged.
Suppossedly the sister really has no qualifications for the job, and got it just because she's his sister, and more imporantly, a scientologist. Clearly that was a mistake.
Cruise and his religion are pretty much just punch lines lately, it didn't seem to hurt War of the Worlds at the box office. We'll have to wait and see about WotW II: Xenu's Revenge though.

Exactly. Tom Cruise is out of control. Maybe he should rename himself Tom Snooze? Tom Chaos? Tom Scientology? His career is not in cruise control, despite his money & fame. He's in the downward spiral largely from isolation & his own bloated ego.

That's probably the only way that he can salvage his career... renounce Scientology and blame all the recent weirdness on it, and then try to act normal for the rest of his days.

I saw an interview with her after she got fired. She's incredinly smart and professional.
Tom is *nuts* to let her go.
At least Tom Cruise can say, "Nepotism killed my career."

And how is firing his own sister going to help improve how the public perceives him? He is a flake.

Tom Cruise is using the "force." Now, one has to wonder what kind of force besides the millions of dollars he uses at his disposal.
Tom Cruise set himself up to be flake when he did his weird stunt on Oprah Winfrey & fellow fluffball, Matt Laur on Today.

Tom Cruise hires a publicist to get good publicity, despite his bad publicity.

He had a great publicist, who controlled what was discussed, and how, for years. He ditched her, then had his sister take over, and spent the past two years looking increasingly like a demented freak. Even Oprah is doind interviews now saying that she doesn't buy the whole act. He needs someone who knows what they're doing, and who can tell him when to shut the hell up!

When Oprah Winfrey questions your integrity, you know you're in trouble. I think part of Tom Cruise's weird behavior might stem from simply getting older; it explains why he has suddenly started dating Katie Holmes.
Tom Cruise should keep his Scientology cult to himself. It's heartbreaking he is brainwashing Katie Holmes with his Scientology crap.

How can you tell if you should switch religons?
When all the leaders are in prison for breaking into the FBI building and attempting to steal files about the investigation into said religon.

Tom Cruise was in Amsterdam and allegedly picked up a guy to have sex with (I think a prostitute or porn star or something allong those lines). The guy went public with the details, and then the Church of Scientology paid him an ass load of money to keep quite.
I missed it, what happened on Orprah and The Today show?
Tom Cruise jumped on Oprah's couch several times; he manhandled Oprah too. He professed his love of Katie Holmes. It was bizarre. You can find the clip on the internet.

During his Interview With the Vampire trip to Oprah, years ago, Crusie was questioned by an audience member about whether or not he was concerned about the homo-erotic nature of Lestat and Louis, given the questions that had been raised about him? His response was to suggest he'd never heard such an assertion, and Oprah stepped in, with an over-the-top response, suggesting that she's never heard such a thing either, and just could not, in any way, nudge-nudge, imagine that anyone, wink-wink, could ever thing such a thing about Tom Cruise. At the time, I thought that was rather daring of her. Flash forward to last week, where she said, on TV, that she wasn't buying his performance, and that's pretty bold! People who rely on guests coming on their show don't usually give their honest, negative, opinions in public.
Cruise has been publicily into Scientology, at least since his marriage to Mimi Rogers, who purportedly got him into it, having been raised in it, herself. Since firing his former publicist, his interactions with the press have gotten more surreal, and his discussion of Scientology verges on Travolta territory!

During the Interview interview, when the question of rumours about his sexuality were brought up, she said something to the affect of, "Rumours about Tom?!? Being Gay?!? I have NEVER heard anything like that before!!!"
She did add during her 20th anniversary episode, that she'd never seen him like that during the previous 8 times she'd interviewed him.
