Well, the Exiles are in the New Universe. First, it's revealed that Beak and Angel are now normal humans as are all of their children, except for Tito. Proteus has assimilated a lot of info on a number of Earth's and has gone to the New Universe so that he can join with Starbrand, who, he assumes, has a limitless supply of energy. The Exiles follow and end up in a battle with Starbrand. And Proteus is fighting Justice. One interesting fact, it was the Starbrand that caused the White Event. BTW, I know it's been a long time since the New Universe days, so I might be remembering wrong, but wasn't Pittsburgh destroyed? Or is this only an Earth similar to the New Universe? Pittsburgh is alive and well in this book.

Could somebody refresh my memory on what exactly The New Universe is? I remember the 616 Universe, obviously, and I remember the 2099 Universe, but not The New Universe. Is it the pocket-universe from Heroes Reborn? I'm confused.

It's a failed line of comics from the 1980s (hence the year being 1987 in the comic). Sometimes referred to as "Shooter's Folly."*
*Okay, I'm the only one who calls it that, but it sounds good, don't it?

It's only an Earth that is similar to the New Universe. Note that the one guy says the 'White Event' only occured last year and it's 1987 or so currently. :)

Plus the real New Universe Earth is inside the 616 universe, sealed off by the Living Tribunal's power.

Also the real New Universe is Earth-148611 while the world visited in this one is Earth-15731.

In Quasar, it was revealed that the heroes from the New Universe were on the Stranger's world at the end of the universe. I don't remember exactly how it happened, but the Living Tribunal ended up giving them their own pocket universe within ours, with no access to ours. This is that world.

The Stranger swapped their Earth for Skeletron (evil robot that absorbed the Starbrand) in Quasar. The Living Tribunal then sealed it off from the rest of the Marvel Universe (allowing Quasar a last 24 hour visit).

That was it. Thanks for filling in the hole, Dizzy.

I browsed this book in the store. Quite the nostalgia kick. They carefully placed the book near the beginning of the New Universe timeline. DP7 only just escaped from the clinic. Myron from Star Brand died later on I think, Pittsburgh gets destroyed later on, etc. So it's a "slower" timeline.
Plus the Exiles know more about what's happening than the New Universe inhabitants know (the origin of the White Event and the Star Brand power). Pretty nice execution continuity-wise.

I was very pleased to see BEak lose his powers. The guy deserves a chance at a normal life. I feel sorry for tito, being the only one to keep his powers, but it doesn't seem like his family is going to love him any less. Heart-warming moment of the week!
As for the story, I liked it. I just realized earlier tonight that I'm not really familiar with any of the specifics for any of the worlds they're going to visit during the World Tour (outside of Heroes Reborn). So this whole mega-arc is going to be a bit unique, as I'm not on equal footing with older readers.

Alrigh althought his was a good book, i have 2 questiosna bout things that annoyed me. Not on the story that is good but the whole Beak thing at the beginning.
1) How the Heck did those kids get so old so fast?
2) Why is it most of them are depowered except 1, when techincally none of them are mutants? (mutantation being to have different DNA from the parents and they are all the same/mixed as the parents, so techincally not mutants, also if they were mutants like the MU, they would have only got their powers when puberty hit).

1.) They were part fly, remember. So they mature faster than normal children. They were already toddlers when they should have still been babies when we last saw them. Other than Tito, they should now age normally.
2.) They still have the mutant gene though, so it being removed reverted them to human. So they're still technically mutants, for the purposes of being depowered. And some mutants manifest prior to puberty, especially those with physical mutations like Beast and Nightcrawler.

They are not mutants by scientific standards though.
But the fly thing makes sense. Even if they alwasy did creep me out.

Yeah, but having the mutant gene is the same as if a mutant was born to two baseline humans who were carriers but not active mutants themselves. So when Wanda depowered mutants, she stripped the gene from everyone. Humans, mutants, and the mutant children of mutants.

Yeah alright, alright.

Remember not all Universes run on the same time scale. When the Exiles crossed over it could be before Pittsburgh was destroyed.
Just like they are visiting 2099 but they're not time travelling, the time their just runs faster.

Where's the "Fallen Messiah"? Wasn't he supposed to show up this issue?

God-bloody-dammit.
First, I'm adding two new books to my list (Excalibur and X-Factor). Then post-HOM New X-Men turns out to be really good, which makes me want to add that as well.
Now I'm considering picking up Exiles again after two years away! (Well, not too far away, I mean I still read 'em)
I love the recurring villain angle in Proteus/Mimic, the Pelletier art, the new reason for the Exiles to be together, and the promise of returning to familiar realities (I'm not super New U-savvy, but I used to really like Justice).
Does Marvel just think I'm made of money? Insensitive bastards.

For my money, Exiles continues to reign supreme as the most consistently entertaining X book out there.
I absolutely adore this series, and this issue was no exception.
