Except I was in college when it started.

Second childhood?

i can't begin to comprehend how old that makes you. but college is too young for it to qualify as your second childhood. that's kind of childhood 1.5, the post college years are childhood 2.
seeing as you must be...mid-30's, that places you in childhood 3.5-4.

whatever. all i know is this show held me down after school from like 2nd - 5th grade.

I was seven or eight when this came out. I didn't even know it was on dvd. Which episodes? Any extras? Since I have a bunch of shows on tape, I'd pass - unless it had episodes that did not appear often, like the one about the haunted hotel.

it has the first 27 episodes. no extras (that sucks, i know). are you talking about hotel strangeduck? it's there.

Yep, that's the one. I just remember so much happening in that episode, and I never got a chance to record it. I had hoped it would appear on the hour-long video cassettes that Disney packaged around the same time, but I found that they only did it with the U.K. format tapes. Lucky limeys :p

I liked all the episodes when Donald Duck showed up because it seemed like an event, especially the spies-in-singapore story and the one from the first two-hour movie with the giant condors and the gold coin worshipers.

That's a show where (when I was a kid), when the episode was over, the day was over. I also remember notliking the episodes where none of the four main characters (Scrooge and the nephews) were present, like the one where Launchpad was an astronauht for Nasa.

Anyone remember the bizarre episode where they did two stories in one show? One was about a magic mirror, the other was about Scrogge's butler coaching little league baseball. I remember thinking they were going to do more episodes like that.

I just went to IMDB and found out about the DVD. Alas I have to pay some MAJOR BILLS this weekend but if there's money left I might just pick it up.

As for fav episodes, I like Launchpad's 007 spoof ("Why do I have this sudden craving for pickles?") and the 2-hour pilot film. Here's hoping the entire show comes out on DVD unlike the other love of my childhood (GIJoe) which is missing half a season.

the 2 hour pilot is missing on the dvd. but from the way they have it listed as vol 1 i'm guessing they'll release future volumes and hopefully collect the whole series.

now i gotta get my hands on the garfield and friends, and heathcliff dvds.
and they need to put out chipmunks season dvds and the chipmunk adventure movie.

That's a show where (when I was a kid), when the episode was over, the day was over.

not for me. i remember when i came home from school they'd have on ducktales, rescue rangers, and two episodes of ninja turtles.

$30 bucks is a small price to pay to relive your childhood.I didn't know a Ducktales DVD came out, but I'm definitely going to get my hands on a copy.

My first and favorite episode is when Scrooge and company used a chocolate map to find a ship full of treasure. I remember thinking how strange it was to have a ship in an area with no water, then the valley flooded and everything made sense. If I'm not mistaken, there was a Colossus of Rhodes that collapsed somewhere in there.

By the time I hit later elementary school, there were several after-school Disney shows showing on local TV. Gummi Bears, Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, and Goof Troop. Anyone remember those?

That episode was part of the 2-hour pilot movie, "Treasure of the Golden Suns," and is awesome.

Ducktales was the 3rd new series developed by Disney for tv. The first two were "Wuzzles" and "Gummi Bears." Rescue Rangers, Talespin, Darkwing Duck, and Goof Troop followed in that order, but Ducktales is the one that seems to have been the most popular (there were 99 episodes made and one feature film, "Treasure of the lost Lamp"). I thought Darkwing Duck was a spin-off of it because that show featured Launchpad McQuack, but they never did a big crossover.

They did occasionally feature Gizmoduck on the show. Does that count?

Oh, and WTF are Wuzzles?

Hodgepodge animals... cute and cuddly... of no interest to GIJoe fans.
Sort of like mutant Care Bears (see picture below).

Oh right, now I remember, vaugely.

Didnt they roll up into balls or somethin? And wasnt their principle enemy a crocodile in a sailors hat?

I bought this on dvd on Tuesday!! I saw it at K-Mart (Wal-Mart didn't have it. They had Chip N'Dale. I was tempted to get that, but I really wanted Duck Tales more).

I use to watch this show all the time when I was younger. Disney always did these great cartoons back then (starting with Duck Tales and I think the era pretty much ended with Recess, which was the last good Disney toon I saw).

I have only watched one episode of this so far ('Send in the Clones') but I'm going to try to watch more soon.

I really like how Disney packaged the collection in seperate dvd cases. Thats great! Really looking forward to seeing more of this!

I think the roll-up-into-balls guys were the Popples, also brightly-colored and featuring antenna, I think... maybe just ears, but fuzzy hair and they had tails with a puff ball on 'em.

Why-oh-why do I remember these?!

No clue about a croc in a sailor hat. Wuzzles lived on an island and all the animals were mixes of 2 other animals, with names that illustrated which animals they were: Bumblion, for example. He's a bumblebee mixed with a lion! Ah.

I was more a Gummi Bears kid myself, of the first two Disney TV shows. Then Duck Tales, though I grew to fear the title sequence that DIDN'T feature Bubba Duck or Gizmo, because it meant I'd seen the episode 15 times already... enjoyed Rescue Rangers too, and Talespin tho Rebecca bucked the heck outta me. And Darkwing Duck was fantastic, of course, tho I too wished for an "official" crossover with Ducktales once or twice.

Disney cartoons I thought were great:

Gargoyles: Just the best of the Disney toons imo. Really great. Glad I have season 1 on dvd and can't wait to get season 2!

Darkwing Duck: A great superhero comedy/spoof toon. Lots of fun. Can't wait till it gets on dvd!

Duck Tales: Glad I bought it! Looking forward to seeing more!

Talespin: A cool take on the Jungle book characters. It was a really fun toon and hopefully it'll get on dvd soon too.

Goof Troop: Really fun. I like the above toons better, but this was still really good.

Chip'N'Dale: Fun toon. I like Gargoyles, Darkwing, etc better, but this was fun. I may get it sooner or later.

Also liked:

Recess: It wasn't as great as the others, but it was a fun cartoon. I prob wouldn't get it on dvd, but I did like watching it.

I'm sure I forgot something...

I did not know that this was out!

I love all the episodes where they re-do classic Carl Barks stories. My grandparents had a stack of them in the attic I would take down when visiting, and when they homaged one (Microducks from outerspace, for example) I would be all "COOL!"

I watched some more episodes of Duck Tales today. I watched:

'Sphinx for the Memories', 'Where No Duck Has Gone Before', "Armstrong", and "Robot Robbers."

My favorite of those episodes was: 'Sphinx for the Memories'. It had Donald in it and was a really fun episode. Best one so far. Where No Duck was fun, Armstong was good, and Robot Robbers was ok.

I'm definitly still glad I got this set though. Duck Tales is really cool.

You're right about the popples. I think they were from the same company that made the cabbage patch kids.

Re: Wuzzles - There was a bad guy named Croc, and he was the only non-hybrid animal living on the island (The land of Wuz) and he had two stooges- Flizzard (frog and lizard) and another I don't remember, looked like the Tazmanian Devil with a pig nose. I think this show was created by Disney to cash in on "cute" characters that were marketed as toys(Care Bears,Get-a-long-gang,moonchoochie,etc.). I imagine the hybrid gimmiack is what made it stand out. Plus good animation and Disney quality helps. Re-runs of that one season used to air on the Disney Channel for a long time.

Other animals: Hoppapotamus(hippo+rabbit), Mooseal(moose+seal; Bill Scott "Bullwinkle" was the voice),Ticoon(Tiger+racoon) and Eleroo(elephant+kangaroo).

So Rescue Rangers is out on dvd? Man, I may just pick that up. I loved that when I was kid. I'm still waiting for Brisco County jr to hit the dvd shelf.
