I've got 35 dollars in my pocket and the used bookstore is calling to me.
You have less than 4 hours to give me your picks of what I should be reading right now. (got to go this afternoon.)
Prefferably fluff.
Men's Action.
Thrillers.
Fantasy/Sci-Fi.
Hurry OBI-CRB-Kenobi, you're my only hope!!

Any Bradbury that you don't already have.
Mike Hammer novels by Mickey Spillaine.
Double Indemnity and/or The Postman Always Rings Twice by James M. Cain.
Anything by Dashiell Hammett.
Anything by Raymond Chandler.
Martians, Go Home by Frederic Brown.
All Flesh is Grass, Way Station or City by Cliffard Simak.
The Broken Sword and/or Three Hearts and Three Lions. Excellent stand-alone fantasy by Poul Anderson.
I recently re-read Call of the Wild and White Fang with Nathan. I'd forgotten how incredible they were.

I'm confused. I GAVE YOU ALL I HAD TO GIVE. :)
The only other fluff reading I've done lately is a collection of anecdotes and stories from the cast, crew and hosts of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, but that's not what you're looking for.
I mean, I could second the Hammett, Chandler and Bradbury, but Slam's got it covered.

If you are still up for suggestions then maybe Sarah Zettel's Kingdom of Cages or The Quiet Invasion.
Anything by Steven Brust.
Benard Cornwell's The Archer's Tale, an excellent historical novel set at the begining of the Hundred Years War.

do they fall under the "fluff" category, Priesty?
Cause Nursing School hurt Nate head much.

Well, they are fast reads, but Steven Brust's Taltos novels are always a fun read and not long on the page count.

Well, I only spent 21 bucks, not 35, but I got 8 books, so wow.
No Hammlet in the store, so I got his grandson.
Like A Lamb to Slaughter. Lawrence Block.
A Stab in the Dark. Ibid.
Out On the Cutting Edge. Ibid.
Some Days You Get the Bear. Ibid.
and some sci-fi.
Day of the Giants. Lester Del Ray.
Stardust. Neil Gaiman.
The World at the End of Time. Fredrik Pohl.
The Integral Trees. Larry Niven.
Thanks, Slam, Ed and Priesty.
Anybody wanna tell me how I did without giving away the plot?

You went to the used bookstore and bought some books.
Crap. I gave away the plot to your tale. Spoiler warnings next time, I promise.

You also came away with profit. You recieve a +1 to your Book-Buying skill.
On-topic: Well, the Sci-fi stuff you got looks like a good haul. I haven't read those books in particular, but those are solid authors.

Overall a good haul. Lawrence Block is a good solid mystery writer. And incredibly prolific. Interestingly he started his career cranking out porn paperbacks. Let me know how the two collections are. I've never read any of his short work.
I'm not a huge fan of Larry Niven, but I've heard good things about The Integral Trees. I've never read that particular book by Pohl...but he's almost always worth a read. One of the last Golden Age writers left.
I'm assuming that Stardust is the novelization. I haven't read it. I love the prose + pictures series that Vertigo did, though. Charles Vess is incredible.
Is "Day of the Giants" the 1964 paperback with the rust colored cover? I love that book. Actually, I think that may have been the last time it was in print. Weird combination of science fiction and fantasy. But I'm a nut for del Rey. Definitely the gem of your purchases.
Nicely done, Grasshopper.

I'm a big fan of Block. His Rhodenbarr stuff is so different than his Scudder that it's amazing to realize it's the same writer. And of course, his wit is what keeps me coming back.

me either; hate hard sci-fi, didn't care for the Ringworld Trilogy.
, but I've heard good things about The Integral Trees.
for 50 cents, I couldn't go wrong.

figured it was time to read some Pohl.

yeah, it's a novel. Was the original a tv show, movie or GN?
Is "Day of the Giants" the 1964 paperback with the rust colored cover? I love that book.
Yes it is, and yes, I am stoked.
Actually, I think that may have been the last time it was in print. Weird combination of science fiction and fantasy.
specifically, Norse mythology!
But I'm a nut for del Rey.
me too.
Definitely the gem of your purchases.
Nicely done, Grasshopper.
thanks, wizened one.
