This January, Warren Ellis returns to the world of horror comics with the three-issue series "Blackgas" from Avatar Press. We sat down for a chat with Ellis to see what his plans are young Tyler & Soo, who are trapped on an island where the local citizens have all turned into zombies.

Zombies aware of what's happening to them? Characters who are completely unsuited to survival situations? Ebola-type zombie bleeding? Zombies doing a Reaver and committing hideous acts on their victims?

ME WANT.

Zombies are deader than disco. Why doesn't everybody stop with the zombies. Ellis is an excellent writer, so I'll buy it for Ellis, but zombies are over. And Kirkman and his little Marvel Zombies book will be the final nail in the coffin.

Because they're one of the best horror concepts there is. Zombies are over? HA! Land Of The Dead, Shaun Of The Dead, 28 Days Later and Walking Dead all mock you.

What I love about how writers have evolved zombies is before they were just a menacing threat, without any personality to interest the reader or viewer. With what Ellis has cooked up, it sounds like the zomibes are both a threat and an interesting character to follow as part of the story. That's awesome.

This sounds like a fun little horror series. I'll be telling my store to pre-order it on Wednesday for me.

I'm a bit hesitant to try the book, even though I like zombies and horror comics. Warren Ellis' stories and Avatar's schedule both move too slow for my taste. I'll flip through the first issue and decide if I should buy it.

All the zombie over exposure is exactly why they are over, those examples don't mock me they only serve to prove my point. When you oversaturate a genre, there is always a backlash that follows. If you haven't noticed, it is now the "in thing" to put a zombie in a book. Hmmm examples of other "in things" at one time or another: Parachute pants, Bell bottoms, butterfly collars, The Spice Girls. That's it actually, Zombies will be the next spice girls.

The funny thing is, I don't hate zombies, I thought Night of the Living Dead was an excellent movie, along with Dawn and Day. Hell, I even like Return of the Living Dead and its sequels. Shaun of the Dead was incredibly entertaining and genre bending. 28 Days Later, was interesting and a good model for Robert Kirkman to rip off in The Walking Dead. Land of the Dead was pretty sad and shouldn't have been made.

Parachute pants and butterfly collar wearing zombie Spice Girls?

Gah! Mental image OUT!

Anyway, I like a good zombie tale, so I might check this out. I've never read anything from Avatar before, or much of Warren Ellis' stuff, so this will be something of a new experence for me.

Plus, covers look pretty. :o

So, you're saying that zombies are a pop culture phenomenon that has died out yet is not aware that it has faded away… sorta like a, well, zombie? Hmm…

Speaking of zombies, here’s an article I did (along with a number of comic zombie creators) about the living dead a year or two ago - http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/soapbox/10755445732995.htm

Dead Men Tell no Tales is awesome, the writing is fantastic. That is actually one of my favorite books right now! I also heard Mark Kidwell is doing a book there soon. I'm definitely looking forward to anything Kidwell does, he is the man!

Never really done the Horror thing, least not reading a horror comic printed after 1976, I'll give it a shot though. The art looks nasty (i like it!!!).
