tut tut.... why must Americans always americanise british programmes and media? whilst we are constantly shoveled buckets full of american crap... seriously there was nothing wrong with the british office... so why make an american version? because Americans are so wrapped up in themselves thats why...

The perfect American Harry Potter would be Haley Joel Osment.

Kristen Stewart (Speak, Catch That Kid), Charlotte Arnold (Naturally Sadie) or Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) would have made a great Hermione.

Venoman:

That's why I'm glad Spielberg didn't get to direct it like he wanted to. If he did he would have American-ised it.

Maybe because the British Office, as I understand it, barely made enough episodes for one U.S. season. And the U.S. version isn't a poor Americanized typical crappy sitcom, ala Men Behaving Badly or Coupling.

Um, I was never suggesting that an American Harry Potter should be made. It's just that Harry Potter has always been a showcase for British actors and I was wondering what American actors would be chosen IF it were to happen. Relax.

Not all Americans like or appreciate the Americanization of British tv shows, Japanese horror films, etc. I think it stinks, but it's just a symptom of the sort of dying creativity that sees Hollywood constantly pumping out remakes, sequels and adaptations of comics and video games while television fills up with crappy reality shows and the like.

There's a reason I watch hardly any tv these days and I almost never go to the movie theater any more.

I think it is better than the British version, personally. (I own it on DVD)

If I had to put an American in the part, it'd be the kid who plays "Dewey" on Malcolm in the Middle!

I agree. It's an easy way to make movies without having to think of new ideas. Although this *has* helped Hollywood go after comics--which is a good thing.

While the American remakes of Japanese horror aren't as good as the originals they have had great quality and genuinely *scary* (re: The Ring, Ju-On:The Grudge).

Let's not kid ourselves. Harry Potter, while having a cast of people with British accents, and written by a British author, is most definitely an American-produced Movie. America does a lot of things wrong, but no one in the world can produce the quality of big budget movies like we can.

In general, Britain is one of the closest countries to America in terms of culture. (Well, other than Canada) So it serves as a good "test market" so to speak.

Well they're the only actors that I could think of that could do the characters justice.

Does it have to be American? Cant it just be a non-British actor/actres?

Wow, maybe it'd be as good as the American Fawlty Towers, or Coupling, or Red Dwarf, or George and Mildred, or La Femme Nikita, or The Italian Job...

i think britain deserves its own hollywood.... our governement dosnt put eneough money into films... and all our actors go to hollywood and abandon the country.... its just not fair.... i think the best british film of recent that ive seen is probably 28 days later... have all you americans seen it or has your country ignored it?
